Pros: Screen is amazing. Full 1920x1080 with a beautiful matte. Perfect balance of clairity and non reflective performance.
Performance. The 3610QM paired with the GTX 660m make for a great gaming experiance. Don't expect to pull Crysis 2 and BF3 at maxed settings. Espeially not at 1080p we are on a laptop and a fairly cheap laptop (compared to what you COULD spend). But high settings on BF3 (with MB, MSAA and HBAO off) at 1080p averaging 40fps. Other games like Skyrim (HD texture pack installed) at maxed settings but with AA bumped down to 4x running verry good as well. Diablo 3 is a breeze and same goes for Mass Effect 3, Modern Warfare 3 and Minecraft (lol love that game). I see this powering through most all games to come in the forseeable future.
Looks are amazing. This thing is so beatiful and the backlit keyboard is amazing as well.
Stays very cool.
I love almost everything about this laptop. I am an Asus fan for life now.
Cons: Weight. But o well, this thing stays so cool and performs so well i don't really care. But just be aware that this thing does weigh like 2 times the average laptop weight. lol
Power brick is fairly sizeable as well.
Sound. Its speakers arent bad, but they arent great. Thats the one thing i prefer about the laptop that this replaced (a lenovo Y560p) it had much better sound then this. At first i thought the speakers were faulty but then i compared to other laptops and its got above average sound, just compared to my Lenovo (which had AMAZING sound) its not as good. I guess my Lenovo's JBL's spoiled me. lol I am used to it now and it no longer bothers me and i actually think it sounds quite good Like i say i was just spoiled. lol I play with a headset usually anyway.
It does have a subwoofer but you need to update the audio drivers otherwise when you adjust the volume, the subwoofer stays at full blast and or can get out of sync. So yeah update them drivers first thing.
Overall Review: This laptop is amazing. Like i say its kinda bulky and heavy but it makes up for it with performance. All other "gaming laptops" i have had have had hot lap syndrome. Where i needed a cooling pad just to game without lighting my pants on fire. Not this. This thing stays cool to the touch even when playing BF3.
Also it is SILENT. Its amazing. My old Y560p's single cooling fan sounded like a blender, not this thing. Its silent as the night. Its something to behold.
This is by far the best looking, feeling, performing laptop i have ever owned. It plays all the latest games at 1080p and at appealing settings. Its price is fairly low for what is inside of it and it has a solid build quaility.
I love everything about this laptop. I highly recomend it.
Pros: After weeks of extensive research in an attempt to find the perfect college / gaming laptop - something that could run the latest games and still be portable enough to move to the library every once and a while - I found this. This beautiful, beautiful machine. It has killed everything i've run on it so far (DayZ on high settings, all other games maxed to the limit (admittedly mostly RTS's like Sins of a Solar Empire and Civ5). It does this while remaining reasonably cool - it gets warm, but never feels like it's at risk of hurting itself. The keyboard and mousepad are awesome, as does the laptops build - feels super solid. It's really everything you could possibly ask for. It has delivered time and time again. I am so, so happy with this purchase.
Cons: As you'll hear, these things have little battery life (3 hours at most), and their power bricks are pretty large. My brother has another ASUS ROG, and this one is slightly lighter and has a smaller power brick than the G53 that newegg also sells. The power brick gets blazing hot... so i suggest keeping an eye on it.
My biggest complaint is probably that I cannot figure out how to enable fn lock on this thing.. which is probably my own fault. It also doesn't come with a backup of windows, you'll have to back it up yourself.
However, i will say that it isn't unbearably heavy, (in a backpack, it really won't be a problem...) and certainly not warm at all (this thing runs cooler than every other laptop i've ever come into contact with.)
Besides my idiotic keyboard issues, this thing is really wonderful, really really complaint free. Absolutely everything about it rocks...
Overall Review: As i said, this is the real deal - it does everything you want. If you're in the market for a cheap (under $1300), portable, powerful gaming laptop, you can stop searching here. So happy!
Pros: Very cool and quiet when not gaming.
The rubber texture of the laptop feels nice.
The matte screen with 1080p is also great.
Performance-wise (3610 and 660m with 8GB) is pure greatness.
Cons: touch pad slightly gets in the way of typing, especially when you're lying down.
The weight of the computer itself plus the power supply makes it difficult to carry.
Speakers do not produce great quality.
Battery life is unimpressive.
The HDD that comes with has poor performance.* (see other thoughts)
The HDD activity, power, wifi, numlock, etc. lights are inconveniently located on the front side below the touchpad. this is difficult to see plus the lights are unremarkable, so there might be some trouble indicating any of those lights.
Overall Review: It is slightly bigger than I expected from a 15 inch laptop. (thank goodness I didn't go 17)
This does NOT have a second SATA port like the G75.
*Switched out the HDD with an SSD and it runs fast.
Maybe more USB ports? I don't need more than 4 but maybe someone does.
Keyboard lighting only comes with one color.
Pros: There are a bunch- I'll skip the ones you can read off the spec sheet, because those are obvious. Short summary of the specs- great hardware bundle inside, runs like a beast.
Heat/Noise- there isnt any. Seriously, look at the rear pic- that explains it all.. The huge cooling works. Even with the high end cpu/gpu running along.
It has a 1080p screen which is twice as awesome as it sounds, seriously sharp looking since the screen is 15.6", very bright/high contrast, and you can almost see it from the back, the viewing angle is that good.
The keyboard feels sturdy, and responsive, with a good amount of weight in the action- the "island" keys are great for accuracy too. Also has full numpad which is a pro imo.
Good connectivity, the camera seems good as any as well.
Good material under your palms, although the spec stickers are annoying- gonna have to remove em.
Cons: Well.. these I think are mostly compromises a costumer for this type of laptop will suffer-
It is big, for a 15.6" laptop- I have a 17" messenger for it and its snug- blame the widescreen and the cooling for that.
Its think too- but ladies like the girth right?
It is HEAVY. I know, you read it all the others and thought, stop crying- me too.. but seriously.. i think my desktop is lighter almost.
The power brick puts the "brick" back in power brick. I mean it. Your house would be sturdier build of of those.
I noticed a slight looseness on the rear panel covering the cooling ducts.. Maybe a mm of give or so.. Definitely not crying about it, but it would've been nice if it wasn't that way.
Um- sometimes you might feel too amazing carrying it around. That could be a con?
Overall Review: If you want a high-performance laptop, one that can truly function as a desktop for when you're on the move, this is it.
It is an absolute beast of a machine- and because of it, a bit bulky and heavy, but it carries its weight for a reason. It doesnt overheat -READ THIS- it doesnt overheat.
Pros: Speed- The 3610 intel processor in this laptop makes it both a fantastic gaming computer and great for multi tasking. I am a college student and tend to multi task a great deal. The graphics processor is fantastic as a 660m would be expected and all over all the screen clarity is ten times better than my 42 inch TV. This computer has a variety of fantastic side features such as an illuminated keyboard, fantastic webcam and built in mic and so on. It never gets too terribly hot even when I have it on my lap, the ventilation system is simply just that good. The keyboard is sleek and easy to type on.
Cons: Weight, It weights about twice of what my old Toshiba weighed but with the features and design of this laptop I gladly accept it.
Overall Review: I am going to be moving to Japan for a year and needed both a portable laptop and a desktop to game on. This computer fills both tasks with out any issues what so ever.
Pros: this laptop is hands down the best way to spend a few hundred on a great gaming laptop. the cpu/gpu cooling design is perfect. I always worry about the gpu overheating in gaming laptops, but this one never seems to get too hot even sitting on my lap during game play! hdd and extra ram bays are readily accessible. res is crisp, and keyboard is firm.
Cons: replacing the ssllloooowwwww 500gb seagate hdd is a must.
Overall Review: I reccomend an ssd of 256 or more,(samsung 830) it makes all the difference in the world. Pick up an extra set of x2 4gb ram sticks, definately worth it as well. barely fits in a 17" messenger bag. do your home work if you are not familiar with mid to high end gaming laptops before you buy, at this price with these specs 5 eggs is a given... or youre doing it wrong...
Pros: This laptop is solid.
+ great build quality
+ nice aesthetics (matte finishes, brushed steel, not shinny)
+ specs are great
+ screen looks good w/the matte
+ nice responsive keyboard
+ not a lot of bloat-ware on arrival
+ good cooling
+ powerful sound
The feel and build quality of the laptop is what sold me. I was able to feel and play with this laptop prior to purchasing it and it is not flimsy, an issue with similar laptops in this class. I enjoy the look, it is not flashy, but looks strong. The added touch of a different material palm rest is nice. I'm able to play my games on full settings and full resolution.
Cons: The laptop is heavy. If you don't plan to commute A LOT with this laptop, it should not be a problem.
Overall Review: I bought the 17' version at a local store.
Pros: Fantastic machine, very fast, stable and nice looking
Cons: A liitle bit heavy
Overall Review: I put SSD instead original HDD - computer just flying!
World of Warcraft works faster then my desktop 6870 video and 2600K CPU!!!
