does this work with windows 8.1 media center ?

I have not tried it with Windows 8 as I really don't want to go any further than 7 with Windows.

I can say that the only thing that doesn't work as advertised is the remote.  The tuner needs to be oriented to the remote just right for it to work.  Otherwise it works just fine.

Is this compatible with Windows 10?

Yes it is compatible with Windows 10. I upgraded on 2 desktops that have the Tuner you are interested in and they work great.  I would have no problem recommending the Tuner.  Enjoy it.

Can this WinTV be used with Windows 8 and 8.1?

Yes, I am using it on both my desktop which has Windows 7.1 and is connected directly to cable and my laptop which has windows 8.1. For my laptop, I purchased an alternate antenna which has a 25dB amplifier that runs off of the usb port. August Model DTA415.

How does it interface with cable when the cable provider installs receivers for channel selection, etc.??

I have FIOS and split the RF cable with one leg going to the WinTV unit. The unit itself can select the TV stations. IT is a Tuner!
It accepts HD channels as well as analog channels. The unit works great and makes excellect  TV recordings which can be converted to a DVD disk. I suggest the free version of Any Video Converter to make the conversion and burn to a DVD.

can it receive analog signals?

I live in Los Angeles Ca. so I am not able to say if this tv tuner can receive analog signals,but it happens that I bought this tuner for a relative living in a country where only analog signals are broadcast and where digital is under experimentation, however the tuner when set-up by WinTV you may choose analog channels from an active menu with digital,FM and another formats and that gives me the idea this very good tuner will do analog very well as does with digital and FM in USA.

When the transition time here at USA I bought one from another company which was very good detecting both signals,plus FM,etc (from cable) SO this is the reason I trust what the manufacturer says...it will be detecting analog over there... I do not see any reason distrust what is told by the maker...this feature (analog reception) was what guided me to this tuner...as every day is more difficult find one which does...

Do you need to connect the product to your tv cable?

You can use it with an antenna for over the air broadcasts. It also comes with input adapters for RCA and s-video.

I believe I read that connecting to a cable box can be frustrating since some cable signals are encrypted. Research it if you plan to use it with a digital cable/satellite receiver.

For these other input types though you should be fine.

will this work on a mac? with Apple TV?

It does not include any Apple-compatible software, and therefore Hauppauge does not support use by Macs. If there is a third-party software designed to function with this tuner on Apple devices, you will be on your own, but I don't know of any. You may have luck running it on a Mac that has been booted into a Windows OS though, if you have a dual-boot setup.

Question 8

I would like to know can I capture all signal strengths from all the TV stations to aid in pointing my fixed antenna to get the most channels? Would me nice to have real time signal strengths of all channels received. Is there SW for this?

The Hauppauge website has a software signal monitor utility under accessories. When it's working, it's tied to the TV tuner so it only shows the signal strength for the tuned channel. It can't display simultaneous signal strengths on different channels. To see the signal strength for different channels you have to manually tune the 955Q to each of those channels.

Question 9

I want to use it to record in-house broadcasts from the TV in my cruise ship room.  Will this product work for that connecting directly to the coax?

Hi Bill, the stick will bring the signal in, your computer does the recording so i guess the answer is yes.. There are two other products i know of, Channelmaster and TIVO both have similar all in one products. The issue you will run into on the cruise ship is when you are underway and the ship changes course. In port should be good as long as you are facing shore. Good luck.

Will this work with the Comcast cable?

I do not know how to answer this, as I do not have Comcast cable.  I only use for on-the-air broadcasts.  I can tell you that the instructions say it receives ATSC Digital Over The Air, QAM Digital Cable, Analog Cable, and External Audio/Video sources!
