Best components in its class for far the money, best keyboard, okay frame 5/7/2017 7:46:40 AM

Pros: Keyboard is awesome, big keys with real travel, blows alternative laptops out of the water
SSD hard drive with enough space (512 GB) to be useful
Top of the line i7 processor for the ultrabook class
16 GB RAM, hard to find more in ultrabooks
Dedicated graphics, not the best, but this ups the package and relieves the processor
Good sized screen, touch and with the 2-in-1 flip
Hinge on the screen is solid and has perfect tension
Full sized HDMI port, not easy to find nowadays (who wants to lug around a converter?)
Sufficient ports otherwise, all I need
Good battery life (8 h normal use) unless I push the processor to its limit for hours with custom code for work
Haven't had issues with heat generation, unless I again push it to its limit for a while

Cons: Screen isn't as brilliant as more expensive laptops (XPS13)
Case is plastic and feels like it. I find myself occasionally being careful with it to avoid putting stress on the frame
Not the lightest laptop either, but it's not ungainly

Overall Review: I looked at all of the ultrabooks available, and this is the best all around laptop for performance vs budget. If I was willing to spend an extra $500-$600 for a similarly outfitted XPS13 (the best in class, a beautiful laptop truly), I still couldn't live with a 256 GB hard drive. That's just not enough space for my programs and data. This laptop hits all of the check marks for performance and practical use, including a regular HDMI port and a full sized keyboard that doesn't feel like your hammering on immovable chiclets, at a serious bargain. The only real con in my eyes is the plastic case, which I can live with for the rest of the package and the money saved.

I would buy it again, and I do highly recommend this laptop to friends.

A horrible experience with an unfortunate lemon. 3/8/2017 7:10:08 PM

Pros: Unfortunately I have not experienced anything positive with this new Lenovo model yet.
All the hardware are very promising, should be running beautifully fast, but unfortunately it has not.

Cons: Worse laptop I have owned in 24 years.
I am sure it is just bad luck that I received a horrible lemon model.
Horrible and very irritating Synaptics touchpad. closes open programs by itself, changes browser viewing size to smaller size. System hangs up momentarily, have to wait till it decides to work again even though I have only one program running, this should never happen with 16 GB RAM, i7 Kaby Lake cpu and SSD.
It could be my CPU, motherboard or the touchpad that are defective, or possibly other hardware
Shipping it back to Lenovo for repairs or hopefully get a brand new model replacement.
I have made sure that all proper and latest drivers are installed. I even setup the Synaptics touchpad utility to just use right and left clicks only, disabled all other available features to hopefully fix my issues, but even doing this did not help.
I also downloaded from Lenovo the full and complete Windows 10 OS which also includes all the proper drivers for this model and made a USB boot flash drive, and reinstalled a fresh new Windows 10, as this way it makes it like a completely brand new system again, and without installing any other program I tested it again and sadly even after all this tedious work it did not help at all.
I will update my review after giving Lenovo a fair chance to make me a happy customer. At the moment I am very livid and unhappy. I wish I shipped it back to Newegg for a complete new replacement, it is my fault for not doing so in a timely manner.

Overall Review: Owned it for just a month and it has been a very frustrating month though.
It has been a very frustrating experience in using this lemon laptop. It is my very first Lenovo model, definitely not a good start in our new relationship. Sometimes I think that I bought a completely wrong model.
I am a very advanced computer user, have been using computers since Windows 3.1 in 1993.

UPDATE ON 3/8/2017
I just found out from Lenovo Repairs Dept. that my defective laptop needs a new motherboard and a new top cover, that is where the touchpad and the keyboard are located. These explains my issues that I was experiencing, and I will update my review here after I receive back my repaired laptop and hopefully I will have good and positive news.

So Far No Issues (Except Maybe One) 2/16/2017 8:43:58 AM

Pros: I just received this laptop and thought I would provide some initial impressions. First, no complaints on the transaction with Newegg, the laptop arrived (ahead of schedule!) well packaged and ready to go. Initial setup was comparatively easy.
On the Plus side:
Minimal Bloatware
Great Fingerprint reader
Bright Display
Responsive Keys (more on that later)
Fast startup
Backlit Keyboard
Great features for the price

Cons: Not so great:
Ridiculous placement and size on right "Shift" key. Someone who can type may or may not be able to get used to it.
Very stiff hinges. Two hand opening required.
Slick (as in slippery) case. Difficult to grab and pull out of a bag.
Charger is not well designed.

Overall Review: This is my first Lenovo and at this early stage I'm pleased overall. It should be noted I don't put huge demands on a laptop. I travel extensively and use it for keeping up with email, document work and web browsing when on the road. I don't have to carry it around in a shoulderbag so weight and size isn't critical, a good thing since this isn't a small or light laptop. The screen can be folded all the way back to make a tablet, but because of the size it is awkward to handle with one hand or in the crook of the arm. Yes, it's a 14" laptop and use in tablet mode isn't essential to me so I don't consider this a negative. Although the keys have good feel, the keyboard placement is a little wonky and that right shift key is terrible. The keyboard is really my only significant complaint, but it is significant because one of the reasons I bought a laptop to have a good keyboard. Otherwise it's a lot of bang for the buck.

Decent Laptop for Work 12/25/2016 2:48:30 PM

Pros: Purchased this as a my laptop for work and simple Internet browsing. Here are my positive thoughts on it:

- The generous lack of weight means I can carry this in my backpack without much discomfort.
- Keyboard is quite responsive as is the touchpad.
- Played with the touchscreen and found it to be quite decent.
- No bloatware to speak of.
- You can turn on or off the keyboard backlight which is really useful at night.

Cons: Here are my negative thoughts on it:

- The touchpad is a metallic type material and makes it feel odd when fingers are not dry. Plus cursor won't respond as easily.
- Also the touchpad buttons are also quite sensitive and respond to another finger hovering over them.
- Shift key on the right hand side of the keyboard is oddly placed to the right of the directional keys. Which means if you are a speed typist you'll find yourself making mistakes until you learn it's placement. Will take time to get used to.
- The display has some oddities that I recently noticed. Sometimes the words on the screen are crisp and legible and other times it's blurry/mushy. I have no idea why that is and I've had others notice it as well.
- Battery power is a bit of an issue as it will run down quite quickly with background programs running. Better turn on Battery Saver!

Overall Review: I bought this as a work laptop and am happy with it despite the issues listed above. I would recommend this as a back-up laptop for working at home and the office. Forget about traveling with it due to the weight.

Great laptop and tablet combo! 12/25/2016 5:51:36 AM

Pros: I'm only using this laptop for light workloads. And for this purpose, it offers good performance for the price. Folding capability is great for different setups. Touchscreen works well. Battery lasts quite a while on medium usage. Sound quality is good.

Cons: Haven't encountered any so far. I've had it for about a month.
