ok when new. didnt last long 7/18/2020 1:01:30 PM

Pros: decent graphics and performance for a laptop when new. Nice speakers for a laptop.

Cons: only lasted 2 years. Progressively got slower and slower and then something on the motherboard fried.

Overall Review: If i could go back I would spent extra money for better performance.

After 2 years with limited use it's blue screened 5/22/2020 5:59:18 AM

Pros: None

Cons: Everything

Overall Review: Purchased 10/2017 used for internet searching and email - we only used it a handful of times and it's giving us a blue screen. Never again with Lenova. I have a Dell I purchased in 2011 which is what I am typing this email on. It's been a great computer. Skip Lenova.

Treated me well for 3 years until I broke it 1/10/2020 3:22:02 PM

Pros: -Never had a major problem with this laptop throughout my 3 year ownership. No crashes, freezes, performance issues, etc.
-Used for bioinformatics computations for DNA sequencing data, video games, and a bit of 3D rendering. No problem with any of these.
-Ports are well placed and sufficient
-Feels sturdy

Cons: -The audio and speakers made popping and clicking sounds when I first received it (Dec2016). I returned it for a new one, but the 2nd one had the same problem. In the end, Lenovo support told me it was something to do with the drivers and even though they were updated, I would have to wait until an update came out to fix this. One day the sound wasn't there anymore, I don't remember how soon afterwards.
-Sometimes it seems that the native speakers dip in and out of audio quality, it is hard to explain because it is so subtle.
-Sometimes the "Shift" key is too small
-It fell off a couch and the screen broke and now flickers after 3 years of use. I would still be using it if it weren't for this accident.

Overall Review: I am very satisfied with this product. Never had any major problems. My first laptop to have an SSD and graphics card and it was a vast improvement. Showed no signs of slowing down. I would still be using it if the screen could be replaced easily.

Manufacturing flaw 6/9/2019 4:10:23 PM

Pros: Back-lit keyboard

Cons: Manufacturing defect on the screen hinge. My laptop is now out of warranty and the hinge just broke today. I've taken excellent care of it
When the laptop is unplugged the speakers make a loud cracking sound any time the screen goes from sleep to awake.

Overall Review: I would've recommended this laptop before I found a forum full of people with the same problem I have. Serious manufacturer defect with the hinge. Stay away.

Died 20 days before 1 year warranty. Lenovo is saying I damaged the mother board 11/24/2018 2:01:02 PM

Pros: Good value, nice screen, nice keyboard, fast.

Cons: Died in less than 1 year. Can't get in to the bios. Sent it to Lenovo, as it had 20 days left on the warranty, and they are saying I damaged the motherboard and will have to pay for it to be fixed. I am pretty sure I didn't cause any damage. No spills, didn't travel with it, never dropped it, never opened it, etc. And its just dead.

Overall Review: Was viewing web pages, left the room, and came back to it on a blue screen. It couldn't find a boot drive. Had a very hard time getting it to enter the bios. Was able to get it to restart and make a system recovery key. That was the last thing it did.
Don't make the same mistake I did with buying from Lenovo.

Avoid their products at all costs.

Great specs, great price, poor build quality 6/22/2018 4:25:46 PM

Pros: I haven't experienced any heat issues with this laptop.

Lowest price I've seen for this spec range.

There's only a moderate amount of vendor bloatware.

IPS display.

Cons: The touchpad buttons respond to finger movement, which can cause undesired cursor motion. This is particularly apparent in FPSes. It's also impossible to click the left and right buttons at the same time, which becomes an issue in DOOM (2016) and probably other games. An external mouse is recommended (even more than usual).

The DAC is a bit noisy, so expect a small amount of static during sound playback, and for a few seconds after. For the most part, this is only noticeable with headphones.

If you accidentally hit Caps Lock while playing a fullscreen game, an overlay will be displayed which minimizes the application. However, this can be remedied by uninstalling Lenovo Utility.

No system restore disc. If I need to reinstall Windows after the warranty runs out, I'll have to download it myself. The product key is read automatically from UEFI, though.

Update: one of the USB 2.0 ports has died -- it still provides power, but no data, so it's basically useless. The mechanism inside the left touchpad button keeps getting jammed, leaving the button stuck in the down state.

Great Laptop.... When it worked. 5/21/2018 10:27:40 AM

Pros: -Powerful. Played Overwatch on high setting. Full screen 1080, no lag.

-Perfect size, not too small that all the keys are jam packed together, but not to large that it's a pain bringing it around.
Keys light up, which helps you see in the dark. (and impresses all your friends!)

-Really nice screen. Bright as it needs to be and watching videos on it, is highly pleasurable.

Cons: -Speakers popping. Like the other review said, for some reason the speakers pop.

It didn't bother me too much, even though it was annoying ( Yes, it now occurs to me that at the first sign of trouble, i should have returned it. Lesson learned.) But at some point, when the speakers would pop the audio would be muffled and barely audible, sometimes even mute. This would usually happen right before audio is about to play and then later on in it's lifespan for no reason at all.

-Battery failure. The reason i'm actually writing this review. My battery just died. And I cannot for the life of me find a replacement. I'm looking specifically for 80NV00W4US or something compatible with this model and nowhere has it. It cannot be found. I've found other batteries which can replace a variety of models, besides this specific one. It's like it fell through the cracks of support or something.

And of course this happens 4 months after the warranty expires.

Overall Review: If you think you are going to get lucky with a flawless model, then yeah. Totally go for it.
Parents money? Go for it.
Money to burn? Go for it.

If you actually want a laptop that's going to last you a long time, avoid this like the plague. 1.3k down the drain. I essentially rented this from Lenovo. I'm just glad i bought this on sale during Xmas and not full price (1.7k).

Extremely poor quality and service. 3/20/2018 12:15:38 PM

Pros: Nice keyboard.

Cons: In the first year, I had to send it in for service two times.

1) It started overheating and failing. We sent it in for warranty repair. They had to change out the motherboard and hard drive.
2) When it came back, neither the hard drive nor the mouse pad were working. Sent it in again.

A few months later, battery stops charging and we get driver power state failures. I passed by warranty expiration without sending it in for a THIRD time. Now I am stuck with a broken device that is no longer under warranty.

I strongly recommend against purchasing any Lenovo products especially anything in this family.
