Pros: -Good power/portability. Not the lightest, nor heaviest thing out there, but it strikes a great balance between power and weight. -Runs well with the iGPU in the CPU during normal web browsing and low power tasks. -If you're editing with Adobe, the iGPU is leveraged quite well to reduce render times. -The SSD is a SATA, but you have another m.2 slot, and both slots support NVMe. So if you want Hyperfast storage over Superfast storage, that is an option. -Colors aren't the greatest, but with the IPS panel, it gets plenty bright enough. -The single physical "Fan Boost" button is a gift from heaven to editors and gamers alike. Just press, put on your headphones, and don't worry about the thing frying itself. -Most of the keyboard is a dream to type on. -The super awesome dragon badge on the cover lights up with a tasteful, white glow. Yes, I'm actually six years old. But I don't want anyone to realize it.
Cons: -My biggest issue after a a day or two of playing around with it is the keyboard. Mostly, it's the spacebar. You have to hit the thing in the center 50% of it to register reliably. And as a person who's never had a job with keyboards, nor taken any typing classes, It's taking me longer than I'd like to get use to that. And I get that it was SteelSeries that designed the thing, But I wish someone at MSI had raised a hand about it. Also, Caps Lock light is dimmer than I'd like, and I haven't seen an indicator at all for numlock (a real pain for editing and data work). Final though about the keyboard is that, in favor of full sized arrow keys, they shortened the right SHIFT key. Not an issue at all for a lefty like me who almost exclusively uses left SHIFT. But lefties aren't the majority. -I know this is a grip with most gaming laptops. But the battery life is... not stellar. I get striking a balance, but you're going to get 3 -4 hours of light web browsing or an hour of gaming. I'd take another 2 Lbs. and some bulk if it meant x2 the battery life. -The Body is made of fingerprint magnetic, cheap feeling plastic. -As with all gaming laptops. It can't actually be used on your lap. Get's uncomfortably warm on my legs within half an hour of wasting my life on social media. I also spend about 45 minutes removing the 20 or so bloatware programs that came preinstalled. -I'm going to be replacing the mechanical hard drive with a 2.5 inch SSD once it comes in the mail. So i opened it up to look inside. Getting the thing open was a bit annoying. About a dozen screws and a lot of prying to get to it.
Overall Review: All in all. I'm happy with the purchase. I mainly bought this to edit some mediocre, amateur YouTube videos while I'm at conventions or traveling, and to play games in the living room without taking the TV from the wife. And it's pretty much perfect for my use case. And anyone who's just planning to game on this thing and maybe do some school work will get exactly what they want. But, if you're a professional video/photo editor, I'd go another price step (or two) higher and get a Gigabyte Aero (factory color calibrated) or a Macbook (Retina Display). Simply because the screen isn't conducive to color correcting in professional projects.
