It is a USB 2 cable and will work with USB 2 If you connect to USB 3, get a USB 3 cable.

Any time lag or loss of power? I'm hooking up to a super nintendo usb controller adaptor and i need the cord to be longer

As long as you don't chain multiple cords together you won't exceed USB specifications. USB gaming controllers use very little power and voltage loss is dependant on the resistance or the wire and current used. These were able to provide 1Amp/1000mA for me which is double what any USB2.0 device is rated. Lag is not allowed in USB specification, this would be a function of wire capacitance and would cause the USB hand shaking to drop entirely. I never experienced that with these extenders.
