hows the mic sound?

It sounds okay but, you'll likely have to increase the mic level in your audio settings since it's less sensitive than most headsets out there.  The audio that you hear will likely be a big disappointment though.

Is this product compatible with a smartphone (i.e. could I do calls with this headset as well?)

PC 350 headset require a lot more power from the sound device then do other headsets. With the proper adapters I would say yes but I'm unsure of the volume to hear with, they might be low sounding.

Does this mic have voice playback? Being able to hear yourself through the headset?

When I plug it in to PC, yes. if I blow in to the mic, I can hear it come through the headphones. People have also said they could also faintly hear the music I was listening to, whenever I use the Push to Talk button.  I use it on my phone with Discord, etc. it does not.

should I get a amp for this headset? if so which one (the cheapest preferred)

I don't need an amp, they get as loud as most other headphones. Just know there's a sound control dial on the right side. Easy to forget or not know about.

Mine were defective so it's hard to say. These are OEM headphones, not actual Sennheiser headphones.

No, but a sound card with an Amplifier will make them sound REALLY good.

No, 2-3.5mm jacks. It also includes a 2 to 1 3.5mm converter

It has 2 male connections (one for mic, other for headset) , that have to be combined using cable PCV05 or similar to be used with Xbox. 
This accessory makes the 2 cables one male cable that combines right channel, left channel, mic and ground into one 3.5mm plug that would plug into your Xbox one wireless controller.

Question 10

The product lists a "chemical warning, known to cause cancer" does anyone know what chemical is being referred to, and how it is used in the product? I would presume that it is perhaps in the ear pads, or an adhesive within the speaker cup? In any case, I couldn't find much of anything about this after a brief google search, aside from a guy complaining that his ears hurt after extended use--but it does appear that the manufacturer discontinued the product due to risk of using it, so it must be of at least marginal concern.
