Cooler Master COSMOS 1000 RC-1000-KSN1-GP Black/ Silver Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: I received this case about three weeks ago (thanks Newegg) and just completed building my gaming PC. Having built numerous custom PC's in the past I have to say that this case is the best-looking and well-designed case I've ever seen. The interior of the case is a pleasure to work in. Plenty of working space and no confined areas. Even the cable management areas in this case work great. The location and use of all items (side panels, drive bays, locations of the 4 fans,) is perfect. All fans operating at high speed are almost inaudible. Even my wife took a second look at this case when it arrived and commented that it was a beauty and, believe me, she could care less about computers. Cooler Master spent a lot of time in designing this case to be user-friendly and it definitely shows. The craftsmanship is first rate, sound level of all fans is extremely low and air flow couldn't be better. You really need to see this case to appreciate its beauty, build-quality and innovative features.

Cons: There are some sharp edges in this case particulary in the hard drive bay areas. I have a few small cuts on my hands because of these but I've seen and used cases that should have a box of bandaids included in the accessory kits. Just be careful in the HD drive area.

Overall Review: Best looking case I've ever seen. Best design both inside and outside. Ergonomically perfect. Extremely easy to use. No fancy side windows to ruin its sleek profile and smooth finish. Other than some sharp edges inside the HD bay areas I am thoroughly enjoying the looks and performance of this case. If you really want to showcase you PC after it's built then this is the one to get.

Pros: Big enough to fit a family full of illegal immigrants! 23.5" tall x 10.5" wide x 24.7" deep. Very good soundproofing. Great cable management. No cut fingers! The bottom rails support the case nicely and the top rails allow you to move it without much trouble (although the case is heavy). The rails also help support the case on it's side making it very stable for mobo installation. The easy to remove side panels made my installation and cable mgmt. even easier especially when the case is standing upright. Tons of screws, tie-ups, etc. Makes for a clean build even with the VGA wind tunnel installed. I love this case!

Cons: Not cons, just annoyances: 1) Removing the 3.5 metbrackets in the last exposed 5.25 bay (the bottom one above HDD's) is tricky due to the tiny screws that go into the mounting rails. Make sure you have a small magnetized phillips on hand. 2) Any 5.25 accessory that has knobs (i.e. fan controller, SpundBlaster Audigy 2) will not allow the front door to be closed. The case is not so bad with the door removed but it definitely looks better with it shut plus it's a tad quieter with it closed. 3) There are 5 exposed 5.25 bays, however, you do not want to use the bottom bay for anything but a fan to draw air out from the HDD cage. In fact, you really lose two bays if you install the fan shroud. 4) The top middle of the case has a black felt like material that is nice to touch but holds dirty fingerprints easily. 5) A cover for the top case power button and port area would be ni. 6) See-through front door panel would of been nice. 7) Can't find addt'l fan shrounds to buy.

Overall Review: Not sure what the recent reviewer is complaining about the heat for; he's running 2xFX-74 (try water cooling). The case uses negative airflow. My system is running cool (38C). And cable mgmt? With 4 HDD's and 2 devices, the holes in the case allow for great mgmt and I can close the door easily with all those cables "hiding" back there. All of my cables are literally out of sight. Replaced stock fans with 2 x AeroCool Streamliner-Silver 140mm Blue LED fans at the top and 3 x Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F 120mm Case fans (adding 1 fan to the optional spot above the HDD cage. I moved the fan shroud from the bottom fan on the case to the top of the hard drives with the air directed to the top exhaust fans. The box comes shipped with an outer shipping sleeve and the case is well protected with styrofoam protection. A carrying case is included that has enough screws to build a new house, a screwdriver key ring, cable ties, tie mounts with adhesive, and diff size mobo standoffs.

Pros: Big, plenty of room for excellent cable management. The VGA cooling tunnel works great!!! Don't let the "LACK OF HDD COOLING" comments scare you, the removeable HDD modules are awesome and here is how I keep my 7500aaks and raptor cool: 1. Take out the bottom fan bracket and put a Scythe SFF21F into it in reverse (so it's sucking air through the grates) 2. There are mounting points for the bracket above the HDD compartment, mount it here (Excellent placement Cooler Master!) 3. Take out top 3 HDD modules & place another Scythe SFF21F outside of HDD cmpt. as close to the back of the case as possible 4. screw it in through one of the grate holes in the HDD cmpt. with 1 screw (REALLY TIGHT and blowing toward your GPU!) 5. Flip case on side, take out filters and then unscrew bottom plastic piece 6. Screw in another Scythe SFF21F where the old bracket used to be 7. Put on VGA air tunnel, side of case and watch the temps drop on your HDD's and GPU!!!

Cons: They didn't include an extra fan bracket with the case, so I went ahead and did mine per the above statement. However, if you call Cooler Master at 1-888-624-5099 they will ship you an extra bracket for free (which I will use to remount my bottom fan)

Overall Review: I used the above mentioned Scythe SFF21F fans to replace all of my case fans and do this project(6 total). Newegg has a great deal on them if you buy six of these excellent fans (OVER HALF OFF---SHIPPING TOO!!!) and I would highly recommend using them. I took the time to write all of that out so that anyone who was considering not buying this case because of the HDD cooling rumors would not miss out on such an awesome case under false pretenses. Per Everest Ultimate, my HDD's are currently at a comfortable 27*C (seen them go to 26)

Pros: There's plenty of room in this case. They also included more screws, wire ties and hooks then you'll ever need for two cases. There's also a handy container to put all of these items in, which fits nicely beside the drive bays. There's sound dampening material on both doors, rubber grommets on the drive enclosures and 5 1/4" drives can be installed with the push of a button. The PC speaker is optional and is not clamped/glued in, which is nice touch for those who'd rather not bother with it. There are multiple holes for cable management. and good structural reinforcement The styling is excellent all around. Brushed aluminum, with black accesnts. Either door can opened with the push of a lever. The case is also dead silent in operation. 120mm fans all around, and any of the fans can be connected directly to the motherboard or PSU via the breakaway molex connectors. The handle are nice feature and don't really detract from the case.

Cons: You would think with a case this large and expensive, installation and cable management would be easier. There are multiple access holes for cable management (good), however, due to the vertical reinforcing bar running down the center, cables cannot be run behind the case from the motherboard chamber to the drive-bay chamber. Also, the motherboard tray is not removable. Although installing 5 1/4" devices is a breeze, installing 3 1/2" devies (like an internal card reader or floppy) is a headache. Screws for the mounts are accessed through a recessed hole in the drive cage. If you're not using a magnetic screwdriver and the screw drops, good luck getting it out. I assume this happened to the person who assembled the case too, as there was already a screw floating in that recess when I received it. There is also no rubber feet on the case. Which isn't that big of a deal, however, the handles on the bottom will leave grey marks on any surface if the case slides at all.

Overall Review: I would give this case 4.75 eggs if that were an option. Though I had gripes about the cable management, there are a lot cases at this pricepoint that do have the features this case has. This is case is the way to go if you want dead silence, but don't want to mess with watercooling (though it's well designed for that option too, with holes for tubes and room to store hardware internally at top for an if you remove the two 120mm fans). Paired with a 0-30db PSU and a Sapphire's silent running Radeon 4870 and you won't hear a peep from this case. I've mostly used aluminum Lian-Li's and Coolermasters in the past, as I like clean looking lines without the exrtreme LED's, windows, and other modder stuff. This is one of the better looking cases I've seen. Very sleek, quiet, and it has good front port access. If you have ~$200 to spend on a case, and don't have lower back problems (did I meantion it was heavy?), I wouldn't hestitate to recommend this one.

Pros: the case handles. i know it sounds trivial, but they do make an enormous difference, especially with a case of this size and heft. they're well constructed, strong, and it feels natural to grab these at the head and foot of the case to move it, instead of using your palms on the sides and fingers under the edges near the floor to pick it up. nice quick release side panels, e-sata port on top novelty, 3.5 x 6 bay/tray arrangement.

Cons: runs hot when you put a furnace in it. *heh heh*

Overall Review: i always get a chuckle when i read these thermal ragefest reviews, complete with sense of being cheated, robbed, etc. we all know cooling is an art form, don't we? for this case, mount a fan in the bottom 5.25 bay to draw air across the 6 3.5 drives below. also suggest the manufacturer make the drive trays out of a grill like material with holes instead of solid aluminum sheeting for better air circulation. my rig: this case + thermaltake toughpower 1200w modular ps, asus l1n64-sli mb, fx-74 x 2, 2GB x 4 geil mem, evga 8800 gtx x 2, 500 GB samsung spinpoint-t x 6, fedora 8 linux w/sw raid. runs perfectly. :-)

Pros: I've built a few other computers before, but this is by far the best constructed, biggest, and best looking case I've seen. The aluminum sides and front door are very solid, the steel frame is strong and well constructed. The airflow is awesome! Maybe not the ultimate, but for a sound dampened case with full solid metal enclosure, this blows nice cool air at idle and warm air at max load... VERY VERY HAPPY I DIDN'T DECIDE TO SAVE A FEW EXTRA BUCKS!!!!!

Cons: The VGA plastic airduct thing seems useless... would like to have rubber feet on the bottom bars.

Overall Review: There's a reason over 1,000 people have reviewed this case... it's simply the best you'll get for $200

Pros: Large Case, plenty of room for EVERYTHING. Easy cable management. Mine came with a dual single line power switch (or was it power led? I forget) for those mother boards that use 3 pin instead of 2. Keeps everything cool with 5 Scythe-Flex F (1600 rpm) fans. This case is really quiet with those 5 fans running. It easily fits my ThermalRight Ultra 120. No matter how much I prepared myself for a big case, I was not prepared for how big this one was.

Cons: The 5.25" to 3.5" adapter is really tough to get in and out. You need a really skinny screwdriver (like those used to repair eyeglasses) in order to dismount the 2 adapter plates, attach them to the FDD or Memory card reader, then remount the whole thing in the last 5.25" bay. Keep in mind if you do this you cannot move the black bottom fan box to the top to cool your harddrives. Also the tiny screws that mount the adapter are NOT magnetic, so if you drop it inside the mounting area (there is a gap between the screw and the outer wall, but this area is pretty much sealed, so you cant shake the scew loose) that screw is lost forever and you pretty much need to get another screw. I am not sure if it was just my case that did not have magnetic screws.

Overall Review: Get good 120mm fans for this case. The stock ones are not too great. 5 Sycthe-Flex F (1600rpm) fans barely make a noise in this case (4 for the case, 1 for CPU). I have a Gigabyte P35-DS4 in this case and it had enough fan 3 pin connectors on the MB to support all 5 fans without having to use a molex.

Pros: I have built rigs for 5 years now more as a service for my fellow ARMY soldiers, this case is one of the best cases in terms of sound cable management and cooling through forced air. I build all my rigs with either an Ultra 1000 Modular PSU or the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad both of which I can vouch look and work great for this case. From there it’s all up to them but I will explain my rig it’s an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ with an ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition. My 24 pin reaches just fine from the PSU to the MB using the oval holes to “Hide” the cable, the 4 120mm fans that came with the case all came with a 3 pin to 4 pin adaptor and all have plenty of cord length I also have the ZALMAN MFC2 Muti Fan Controller which I must say is a dream and complements this case great. It was an absolute dream putting everything into my case no bloody fingers, plenty of room to work in it and I’m a big guy with big hands and arms. My internal temps are in the high 20c in air conditio

Cons: The only cons I have with this case are not with the case it’s self but the lack of “Who Ever” in Cooler Masters “What Ever” department that decided not to package the “Optional” HHD fan assembly with the Cosmos it’s self and on top of that they have yet to make it available state side and I’m having trouble locating anyone that has it and ship State side. Also I use a Thermalright's Ultra 120 Extreme which makes it “with out modding” impossible to use the air guide for the video cards, which this case will hold two 8800 ultras with ease.

Overall Review: Hmm other thoughts great design, thought out interior and exterior, poor packaging combo, great built in noiseless technology, it might not have a windowed side but that’s fine I have never be into a lighting a computer, power and HDD Led’s are just the right brightness, pre cut holes for Liquid cooling with rubber flex covers for quick water cooling mods, people might complain it doesn’t have a slide out MB try but I have always found them noisy and useless and they are not needed in this case which has plenty of room to work in.
