INTRODUCTION

SilverStone RVZ01B Black Reinforced plastic outer shell, steel body Mini-ITX Desktop Computer Case SFX Power Supply

Since the original RAVEN RV01 debuted in 2008, the RAVEN team at SilverStone has demonstrated many times how it can truly define or defy computer enthusiasts' expectations of what a performance PC is capable of in both form and function. For 2014, the team had a new target, which is to exceed and reshape the small form factor landscape with another breakthrough case design. The result of this effort is a new line of case products called RAVEN Z. As the first model, RVZ01 is unlike any SilverStone small form factor cases before it.

Utilizing a PCI-E riser and custom designed fans, this slim case is capable of housing the biggest consumer graphics card on the market with superb air cooling performance and the ability to support liquid cooling*. Designed for use in either vertical or horizontal orientation, it can be placed comfortably in any space-constrained environment that requires a powerful PC. For those that have been waiting to make the move to small form factor computing with a truly standout case to build with, the RVZ01 is it.

Great case overall!

Pros: - Fans are super quiet
- Comes with options on how you want to use the case as a tower or desktop
- Comes with spare hardware in case a screw were to strip or go missing on you

Cons: - Smudges from hands/fingers show a lot on the panels
- Could use some more identification on fitment with GPU cards as some can increase difficulty if installing solo
- Doesn't have a way to secure a CD/DVD drive on one side which for me is a little concerning (even a silverstone one)

Other Thoughts: - I would recommend this product to someone but knowing first hand some things like the GPU fitment I would have some conditions to where this may not be ideal if going with a longer card or one with a thick width with cooler
- I'd recommend a adapter to allow three case fans possible to go into system fan header but not a huge deal breaker i'm sure for most but this could make a positive difference

Easy Peasy

Pros: Inexpensive
Good dust control
Plenty of room to work in
GPU separated from Motherboard
Accommodates more hardware than anyone would need
Cool and quiet

Cons: No dust filter for the PSU intake
Not enough room to make a non-modular PSU a reasonable option (a partial one would probably work)
A Long SFX PSU makes the 24 pin connection very tight and a bit difficult to plug in

Other Thoughts: The case has been updated twice, but I am not convinced it has been improved. It took a good deal of planning where to run the cables and the order to plug them in, but there was ample space to have a very clean build. Needing to plug in the 24-pin cable after all the other power cords probably could have been avoided by removing the interior wall, but it went in and was really the only difficulty that the small size presented during my build. Because it is an SFF case component choices will be limited and probably pricier, but that is going to be the case for all such chaises. I did upgrade the included case fans to high pressure PWM fans and added a third one so all three filtered intakes would be pulling, for dust control and air flow. This is my first time building a computer, so take my opinion FWIW, but building in this chaise was the easiest and most enjoyable part of the entire process; well, except for using it of course.

Really professional looking case for the HTPC crowd

Pros: - Dual chambers keep high-end components cool
- Lots of fan options - even more than you need
- Room for 2.5 and 3.5-inch drives
- Fits high-end graphics cards
- Looks really nice on the shelf

Cons: - No eject button for DVD drive
- USB 3.0 cables seem excessively long
- USB mounted to case were loose and pushed into the case - had to retighten
- Large graphics cards sag - I had to use a tie-wrap to secure

Other Thoughts: First off, I highly recommend this case. Once you plan out the cabling, it's really quite easy to work with. Sure, it's tight in there, but not as bad as I expected from reading other reviews. I put a MSI GTX 980 Armor in and still had extra room in the front for cabling, which I didn't end up using. Some things I did to make life easier:

- Put the power supply in first
- Mount the 2.5-inch SSD to the front graphics card support wall (it's pre-drilled)
- Mount the 3.5-inch drive to the bracket on top of the power supply
- Use 6-inch SATA cables for both
- Run the two graphics card 8-pin power cables through the front hole in the graphics card support wall
- Route the case switch cables around the back (left-side of case) of the power supply, attach to motherboard, and place excess behind power supply
- Route the USB and audio cables around front of power supply, attach and place excess between power supply and front of case

That's about it. In my setup, I used a Scythe Big Shuriken CPU cooler on an i7-6700, and the temps stay cool, maxing out at 65 C under heavy load. The GTX 980 never gets hotter than 70 C, with a single case fan under it. The other fan sits over the CPU, but I have not yet connected it - and don't really need to.

The only thing that seems missing is an eject button (or hole) for the DVD drive. I'm not used to ejecting it with software, and it frustrates me every time I use it. A clip or other support for heavy graphics cards would be nice too.

Aside from that, I love this case.

PSU too close to the motherboard.

Pros: -its small, advertised would fit all my parts.

Cons: -Screws for the PSU to the case visibly touch the motherboard, even bend it slightly.
-GPU bracket did not fit the cooler, would have had to cut the shroud on the cooler to fit into the case (2-3mm).

Great Case

Pros: -Solid cooling performance
-Good enough cable management when you route cables correctly, using black cables
-Sleek and good looking
- Running gigabyte z170n mini-itx board, i7-6700k, 16gb ddr4 3000mhz, (2) ssds, EVGA GTX 1070 FTW and Corsair 600w sfx power supply......
All this runs smoothly, quietly and cool.
- CPU between (30C-70C) depending 0-100% loading. [Using Noctua NH-L9x65 cooler]
- GPU idles at 30C-40C and gets up to 75C under heavy load. [Fans hardly run on gpu and this is with default fan profile so if you were to set custom profile it could really be around 65-70C under load depending on your rigor with the profile]

Cons: - None that I can think of

Other Thoughts: - Would recommend to anyone looking for nice-looking mini-itx case especially if you like powerful internals

Terrible, terrible, terrible.

Pros: Some thought is put in on video card placement. The case also has room for four solid state hard drives slots, although really, that is so stupid. Who needs four solid state hard drive slots? Especially when you can put an M.2 compact solid state hard drive on the motherboard. Better if some of that space was used for cable organization, or something.

Cons: I bought SilverStone's SFX form factor SX500-LG power supply. When I put it in, I noticed that you don't have access to the On/Off button when the PSU is inside the case. I had to cut a hole in the case so I could access the On/Off button on the PSU.
Next, the SilverStone Raven case manual recommended the SilverStone NT06-Pro low profile CPU cooler. I bought this cooler and it did not fit in the case. I watched a YouTube video of some guy who made it fit, but it is obvious to anyone who tries, that to get this to fit, the cooler will sit halfway off the CPU. I care more about the CPU than the case, so I cut two rectangular holes on each side of the corner where the motherboard sits so that the cooler would fit. The cooler now sticks out about a quarter inch on each side of the corner. This is an obvious design mistake.
Actually, at this point, I noticed I could not remove the case the mini-ITX motherboard with the cooler on unless I took out the PSU first. Removing the PSU is a pain because two of the mounting screws near the side of the case are hard to access.
In order to be able to more easily remove the motherboard with cooler on, without having to take out he PSU, I cut away more of the case. All these issues could have been avoided if SilverStone made the case a 1/2" longer and a 1/2" wider.
Finally, I bought a slim 5"x5"x1/2" LG CD/DVD writer. Then I noticed that the CD/DVD cut out slot in the case was thinner than 1/2". Time to do more cutting to make the CD/DVD slot thicker.
I should add, that not only did I have to cut the steel case - a big pain, but that I had to cut the plastic wrap around plates as well.
The YouTube guy didn't bother with a CD/DVD writer. He made do with USB.
My question is, why make a steel case with plastic wrap around plates? The whole idea of an ITX case is small and light. So, why not make the case out of Aluminum and leave off the useless plastic garnish? Also, Aluminum is easier than steel to machine when you have to fix SilverStone's design mistakes.
More, why are the front panel cables so long? For a case like this, it's not like you have to guess how long you have to go to reach the motherboard. Especially when there is so little room, make the front panel cables shorter. It's weird, you could get by with a 1/3 of the given USB 3.0 cable length and a 1/3 of the front panel audio cable length. All that extra cable means you have to wrap it somewhere, and there is not a lot of clearance for the lid on this case. Instead, SilverStone should have made the cables shorter, and in case anyone complained that they were somehow too short, included 6" extensions.

Other Thoughts: One thing I learned was that a slim type CD/DVD writer requires a special cable. I bought a StarTech 6" Slimline female to male SATA to SATA adapter. I hooked that up to a data SATA cable and to the standard black power SATA cable that comes with the SilverStone PSU. One thing I still don't understand. The typical mini-ITX motherboard only has one case fan connector. But, the SilverStone Raven computer case come with two fans. That means, one of those fans has to be powered directly from the PSU. But, neither the SilverStone computer case or the SilverStone PSU came with an adapter from standard SATA power cable to the fan connector. However, the SilverStone PSU did come with a black cable that had the standard size 4-pin MOLEX connector. So I bought an Apevia CVT334 adapter from 4-pin large power supply MOLEX to 3-pin, KK family, small MOLEX fan connector.
My final thoughts are that SilverStone did not put much effort into this case. They certainly did not make sure that their computer case designers, their power supply designers, and their CPU cooler designers were talking to each other and on the same page. It seems that they were not. If SilverStone actually put together a full case in their factory, they would have seen that they had problems. Why didn't they do that?

Amazing Case

Pros: This case can fit a 120mm aio cooler, 3 2.5 and 1 3.5 hdd and have some room to cable manage.

Cons: When i got the case originally the front usb panel was loose so i had to glue it in place to stay firm. The mobo usb 3.0 cable is too long and thick and ia hatd to tuck with all the other cables.

Other Thoughts: With the case its best to use video cards like the r9 nano or the gtx 970 itx to get the most out of the case. To also fit a 120 aio cooler you have to mount it radiator first sideways in the fan slot above the powersupply and put the fan on top of it pulling air thru the radiator. This way the tubing can bend withot any clearance issue. In this setup you can utilize the 2.5 slot on the removable metal bracket and fit the 3.5 hdd above the power supply with no issue. I wish i could post a photo to show the finished look because its amazing how much the space is utilized. It is also a must to get very short sata cables about 5-7 inch to help with cable management unless you want to waste space tucking in the standard cables in. But this case can handle anything you want. Another thing is the powersupply is loud to me since the case is about a foot away from me and its the only thing making that noise so a sfx-l might be quiter. But if you stick with the regular sfx get the 600w due to the short cables.
