Pros: 6TB = 5.6TB exFAT of storage for Mac or Windows compatibility 165MB/s read/write using USB 3.0 AC adapter included USB 3.0 cable included WD Drive Utilities allows for status check for drive failure and bad sectors WD Security allows for password protection to unlock drive Black construction with glossy top half is aesthetically appealing 3 - year warranty
Cons: NO LED or visual power indicator
Overall Review: Solid product that is not too bulky. It measures 6.7x5.5x1.9 inches. For a USB 3.0 enclosure using a 3.5" HDD it reads and writes at about 165MB/s. The WD software is quite easy to use and allows for password protection to unlock the drive as well as scanning utilities to detect bad sectors. Overall, it's a solid product and works as advertised. The 3-year warranty is about the longest warranty you will get from a consumer external HDD. The top half is glossy and prone to scratching if handled but since this is a stationary device it would be fine.
Pros: 8TB of Storage Plenty of Storage USB 3.0 Plug and Play Nice Design and FAST!!!
Cons: No Power Switch or LED's,Slight Noise vibration
Overall Review: This My Book is a winner, I backed up all my dvd movies and music, and this works just great for my collection, it does get a little warm, but other then that, its great!!!
Pros: - Sleek looking external hard drive. - Power brick isn't too large, points downwards. Standard 12V - 1.5A. - Despite what people say this hard drive enclosure CAN be shucked. Meaning you can remove the bare internal hard drive from the enclosure and put the hard drive into your PC for use (no encryption). Unless you are a ninja, this will VOID your warranty.** - There IS software & hardware encryption IF you purposefully want it. - This is Western Digital quality, so the drive should be reliable.
Cons: - This thing DOES have mandatory hardware encryption on the enclosure PCB. - If the enclosure dies, it is unlikely you will be able to recover your data because it was encrypted. Or get someone to decrypt for you. - There are no indicator LED lights to inform the user if the drive is in use or on. - This doesn't seem to have any indicator LED. No light for power on or activity.
Overall Review: - Only time will tell how reliable this little external enclosure and the drive inside is. Used CrystalDiskInfo: - WD60EZRZ model - 8 power cycle counts - 0 power on hours - Drive came back with no bad sectors after a full drive scan using WD's Disk Diagnostic tool. ** So I am giving this hard drive 5-stars still simply because, while it does have mandatory hardware encryption, you CAN remove the internal drive without damaging the enclosure (but will void warranty), and you can use the internal WD Blue (WD60EZRZ) in another computer. ** In addition, you can even re-use the enclosure (with hardware encryption) to accept a different hard drive; you just have to mod the enclosure PCB. Google to figure it out.
Pros: Tons of portable storage space. No bright LED (some say a con, I say a pro). Easy setup (just plug it an and my computer recognized it) Quiet. I cannot hear it from 4 feet away.
Cons: "sideways" power plug. There are 2 different style plugs for this apparently, 1 will only take up 1 slot on a power strip (cord at bottom, outlet plugs are in a "I I" position), the other takes up 2 due to mounting sideways (cord at bottom, plug is in a = position), unless it is mounted on the first plug of the strip. No power switch. Annoying if you are wanting to turn it off and on for occasional use. It does get warm (almost hot). After a long file transfer, it is hot to the touch, but if sitting there, barely warm.
Overall Review: This is just staggering how much storage is now available in a single drive unit. I remember setting up my windows home server with several 2tb drives, and now there is more than that in 1 drive that I can stick in a bag. I am using this as my server backup now. It took several hours to transfer the 6+ gigs of data, but it all went smoothly. it is exFAT formatted, so just be aware of that if it is a problem for you (it was not for me). I noticed the design of it is a similar style to my son's Xbox one, so if you are needing something to match that, it could work well.
Pros: Great price per TB. **Possibly** a great drive inside.
Cons: Extremely poor case ventilation for normal use. It WILL overheat with normal usage. If you use any drive monitoring software, it will report your disk is overheating anytime data is read or written. No problem with overheating after the drive was removed and in my NAS.
Overall Review: If you plan to shuck, I've bought 5 of these over the last few months and all of them contained a drive with model number WD80EZAZ. The R/N was US7SAL080 which matches up with an Ultrastar He10-8 (a fantastic drive btw). However, when tested with smartmontools I can confirm TLER is NOT enabled by default, so I don't know what else is different or altered with this model number. There is very little information available online regarding this model but so far the drives seem very nice, are quiet, and perform excellently in my Synology NAS. Oh BTW, if you plug a SATA power connector that has a 3.3V wire present, the drive will not turn on... you must use an adapter cable that you would have used back in the day to convert the regular 4 pin molex to SATA power. This is well documented on many of these drives but just a heads up.
Pros: Good price for 8TB Quality WD Red 5400 RPM helium-filled drives, type WD80EZZX Not weird shingle technology as with the Seagate competition
Cons: Drives overheat immediately No power LED (!!)
Overall Review: As so often with both Western Digital and Seagate, it's incredible that a company can build these technical marvels but can't design a plastic box to hold them. WD did better on last year's MyBook 8TB line, with vents top, bottom, and rear (and a power LED). Now we just get vents top and bottom. On an open desktop in a room at 27 degC, I began using this new drive. With combined writing and reading, its SMART-reported temperature began rising about 2 degC every five minutes. After an hour it was crossing 52 degC, with no sign of slowing. That's too hot, and would soon be approaching the warranty limitation. So I laid a USB-driven fan on top to pull air through. That brought the temperatures back to 40 degC. This is completely clunky, adds noise, takes extra space, and wrecks the looks. This wasn't as necessary with last year's model AND when I did use it the fan could sit properly on the desk and blow into the rear of the drive housing. Not any more. How can packaging engineers be so continually stupid - year after year? It's almost beyond belief. Guys - top secret flash here - PUT MORE HOLES IN THE CASE. TOP, BOTTOM, AND SIDES. And put a light on it!
Pros: Fast transfer rates Drive model inside: WD80EZZX-11CSGA0 8001.5 GB 5400 RPM
Cons: No drive activity LED, no way to tell if the drive is even on just by looking at the case. No power or drive activity LED. On previous models you had an LED that indicated if the drive was on, reading/writing fast blinking and on but in sleep mode slow blinking. PC hangs during post, at least on my system. The drive comes formatted using exFAT instead of NTFS for cross compatibility between Mac and Windows, you can access the drive if you plug in after boot but your system might hang on boot with it formatted exFAT. Reformatting the drive to NTFS fixed this issue but there's no apparent notice about this included with the drive or on WD's support site. I imagine a lot of these drives will be returned thinking the drive is bad. Drive runs hot, 55 degrees under load

Pros: Tons of storage in a single enclosure. 8TB is more than I know what to do with! Sleek, modern design that fits well wherever you put it. WD software has the ability to use this as a backup drive, essentially letting you do a system restore from the external drive (if needed). This is useful for anyone with a lot of storage on their PC but with no other way to back up.
Cons: None
Overall Review: I’m using this to extend my PS4’s storage capacity. It works really great for this, and there is no notable difference in speed compared to the drive within the PS4.
