Overall Review: I used the product for a 2 weeks and had important things backed up on the drive and went to eject the drive and unplug to move my computer and when i went to plug the drive back in, my pc wouldn't recognize the drive only to do some research to find that the disk was scratched. Now i have a nice paper weight.

We appreciate your time for sharing your valuable feedback on WD My Book Desktop External Hard Drive. As the hard drive is not recognized by your computer upon connecting, there could be various factors responsible for this, such as the faulty USB 3.0 port of the computer which could be causing connection issues. The USB cable might have gone bad. There might be an interruption in the power supply for the device due to the faulty power adaptor, using a power strip to connect the power adaptor or a USB hub to connect the USB cable of the hard drive.

In order to isolate the root cause of this concern, please connect the device directly on a different USB 3.0 port of the computer, try to connect the device with a new USB cable and power adaptor and if the issue persists then connect the device with the USB 3.0 port of a different computer.

If the test is unfortunately inconclusive, you can create return the drive to the place of purchase. But if the product is past their return policy then you could create an RMA through WD and replace the drive under warranty.

WD most reputable

Pros: I needed extra help with installing this backup on my mac laptop. WD tech support was extremely helpful and the follow up was not expected but most appreciated. I have bought WD backups before and was always pleased. I was installing on an older OS and WD walked me through it. It is running great. We buy at NewEgg because they are reputable too.

Nothing but problems

Pros: Space

Cons: Bios errors

Overall Review: I get nothing but b4 bios errors now. The only way to remedy it is to unplug the drive before starting up the computer,not very efficient at all. Dissapointed

We are sorry to hear that the WD My Book Desktop External Hard Drive is not working as expected on your computer and thank you for bringing this to our attention. The WD My Book drive is formatted with ExFAT by default. An ExFAT formatted USB drive can cause issues while booting up the computer. If the USB drive will be used on Windows systems only, reformat the My Book to NTFS. BIOS settings should not need to be changed.

Its a portable WD Black

Pros: -Cheaper then a naked WD Black HDD
only cost 139$ (CAN)

Cons: -None

Overall Review: Works great, it was recognized right away. the transfer speeds are about 190MB/s +.

Works well for storage on the Router

Pros: Use it to store all my movies on the router and play them on my xbox or PC

Cons: none. i thought it wasnt going to work at first, i never checked the router specs which said it would only accept 2tb in a USB HDD. so i created two particians and it worked.

All there but...

Pros: I purchase from Newegg.ca, a WD My Book 4TB on 2/18/2018, a good looking Shining plastic box.

Cons: No LED Light(s) to show if uploading or downloading, with today's inexpensive LEDs, WD seems to be cheap and should perhaps incorporate an Off and On switch

Overall Review: It does what it is supposed to do but, I would rather purchase a WD Black Hard Drive (or other WD) and install it in an external HD casing with an Off and On switch, LED Indicator(s) an incorporated fan and it should be faster with more control (my 2 cents)

Lives just long enough to lull you into a sense of security

Pros: cheap

Overall Review: I plugged this in, loaded up all my stuff, then formatted the hard drive. Then I tried to plug this in and start it up a second time... no luck. And because I procrastinated on taking this out of the box until after newegg's return policy expired, I'm out a hard drive. Not that I imagine I'd ever get the data back anyway.

Best practice is to run diagnostics with WD Drive Utilities when a drive does not perform as expected or is behaving abnormally. Always connect the drive directly to the computer prior to testing.
