Awesome first DSLR 1/14/2015 5:59:24 PM

Pros: Even after some years, this camera is great, and I have no need of upgrading. It does everything I could ask. All I want now is more L glass.

Cons: None

Overall Review: If I were ever to upgrade, I would look into the 5D series. Glass>Camera though.

Perfect Device for Families 8/31/2014 9:49:53 AM

Pros: Have to admit this device works pretty fine for family outgoings. It has excellent image quality, and quick AI focus for nearly all the shooting environment. Also, comparing with 70D, which cost you extra 500 dollars, I think this one is a reasonable and wise choice.

Cons: None at this moment.

Love it 11/6/2012 3:40:58 PM

Pros: Price, battery life, non-photography extras, solid viewfinder. Decent ergonomics. Light sensor is alright.

Cons: Weight.

Overall Review: Very nice. I upgraded from an old ti rebel that was like 6 years old or so and I really appreciated the new features in this one. The pentaprism viewfinder is a lot brighter than the pentamirror based rebel (probably the biggest reason I upgraded). Although if you use auto focus that doesn't matter. Someone was saying the autofocus sucks and can't be controlled but there is a button that looks like a cross right on the top right shoulder of the camera where you can select the autofocus location. Who uses autofocus anyway?

Onboard flash blows but it says that right in the owners manual. Perhaps I am being naive but I hope anyone that buys this camera knows that if you're going to be using the flash often you need to upgrade.

Uhhhh battery life is like way better than I thought it was going to be. I don't use autofocus so that probably helps, but even with an IS lens and a 5 hour hike through the mountains my battery still says full.

Megapixel count is fine. I mean, the difference between a 12mp and this 18mp isn't really a big deal. I had a 12mp picture blown up to a ~2ft by 2ft print and it looked fine so....

That's about it.

Basically why you should buy this camera over a Nikon is because Canon takes out a full page ad in National Geographic and writes about an endangered species for advertisement and Nikon has Ashton Kutcher..... Both cameras will probably do you well although I have only owned Canon.

Love it 5/14/2012 11:37:42 PM

Pros: The swivel screen is the selling point for me. I have an older Canon point and shoot with the swivel screen, and almost never use the viewfinder. Auto bracketing, huge amount of control, Canon quality and bunch of camera specific pointers on Youtube. Best swivel screen camera made, that I know of. Pro-ish movie mode.

Cons: Not the greatest auto focus but more than passable. The price seems a bit steep, even when you pit it against other Canon DSLRs. Has features most might not use or need. Seems like you pay a lot for the swivel screen but its a darn good one. ( almost a million pixels.

Overall Review: I just wanted a great camera for snapshots and some macro fun. I have a slug of old SLR lenses that are still great but I hate film. I have taken some great pictures with the kit lens and my old lenses with an M42 adapter. Its a crop sensor camera but still think a pro could get his moneys worth out of it. Team it up with Adobe Lightroom software and you will blow yourself away.

Very average 5/8/2012 3:48:24 PM

Pros: Camera build quality, button location, flip out screen, the way it feels in the hand, high megapixel count, live view, it's a Canon.

Cons: High ISO means nothing when the result is garbage. I actually owned two of these, after returning the first one. It wasn't a fluke. The average consumer might not notice this, but a professional should. And manual mode only produced very average results at best.

Indoors with all the lights on, it would jump up to ISO 1600 (full auto setting). Yet, in a side by side comparison, my XTI would sit comfortably at 400 ISO. Why the difference? Manual settings with the exact same lenses between the two produced nearly identical images. The 60D was not perceptibly better. Actually, the 60D was still overly bright/noisy in comparison. For a brand new camera to produce results similar to, let alone worse than, a 6 year old camera is hugely disappointing.

Auto focus was not great either. Images weren't crystal clear. Colors not defined well.

Video is still not advanced enough yet to be more than a gimmick. Manually focusing video is frustrating. Makes the video feature almost useless.

Overall Review: For someone's first DSLR, I imagine this would do just fine.

But it's no upgrade.

Outstanding 4/25/2012 9:32:29 PM

Pros: amazing features & outstanding photo and video quality. Canon quality it phenomenal.

Cons: pricey, but you really get what you pay for. I upgraded from a Canon Rebel XS mainly because I wanted greater resolution and faster FPS. I loved the Rebel XS, only sold it to buy this one.

Overall Review: Overall, as an enthusiast photographer, I am happy with the upgrade to this camera. Get yourself the 50mm lens and have some creative fun!

Awesome SLR 2/29/2012 10:31:39 AM

Comments: Great camera. If you are really picky, the viewfinder (compared to actual picture) is only 96% compared to the 7D which is 100% but more expensive and still uses old CF cards which get way expensive past 16gb. I've noticed no lens creep, but even if I did, it has a lock feature so who cares. If you don't know what it is, ignore any negative comments on other reviews about lens creep.
