Lasted less than 2 months 9/3/2010 9:19:36 PM

Pros: The first few pages were good.

Cons: Very few pages...

Overall Review: Cyan comes out intermittently. The cartridge is almost full but cleaning does not help. No more Canon printers for me.

Dang! 8/23/2010 1:58:34 PM

Pros: Great quality for the price. This printer was for my wife's scrapbooking. I couldn't have asked for better. I have no use for a photo printer...I'm a BW laser guy (the faster; the better). Easy to use, bloated software appeals to my wife, readily available ink.

Cons: It's a bit big, but it has a nice shiny black look to it.

Got deffective Printehead 8/19/2010 9:49:27 PM

Pros: It printed nice photos

Cons: The printhead had a leak, so it dropped black ink, called Canon and they replaced it with a Canon IP4820, now all my ink is not compatible with this new printer, more than $50 worth of ink wasted.

Overall Review: I should have stick with HP printers, first and last Canon printer that I will buy.

All is quiet on the printing front 7/22/2010 1:34:44 PM

Pros: I'm not a printer geek and I dont really care about specs, all I know if that this printer does a great job. The clarity of the print jobs is equal to what you would get if you printed them at CVS.

Cons: None so far

Overall Review: Much better than my old HP

I LOVE this printer 7/19/2010 12:20:36 PM

Pros: Quiet, Easy Set-up, Two paper trays, Closable for dust prevention. If you are looking for an all-around printer that gives you both good paper and picture copies, definitely get this one.

Cons: Not really a con but the included driver disk didn't include drivers for Win XP Pro 64-bit OS but they were easy to find on the Canon Website.

Overall Review: I bought this printer to replace my Canon i450 which didn't support a 64-bit OS. This printer is quieter than my old i450. The two paper trays are lovely and the fact that I can close the front when not in use keeps the dust from the desert from getting into the printer.

Awesome printer 7/18/2010 12:24:07 PM

Pros: Fast, quiet as compared to the old printer, very easy and fast to set up with the enclosed cd. Like the dual sheet feeder for different paper types. I will stick with Canon printers if this one continues to perform so well.

Cons: Didn't get one sooner.

Slow to start & ink waster 7/16/2010 12:12:21 AM

Pros: Once printing, it prints well. Included Canon and 'Walmart' Kodak photo paper produce excellent results. Top closes completely if you want to keep dust out. Reasonably fast and relatively quiet. Intermediate colors have a solid appearance, with no interference pattern from too big a drop size.

Cons: What a pig! During initial 'head alignment,' you can clearly hear a vacuum pump going, and going. Look at the carts & check the levels when you put them in, then look inside & check after 'alignment.' Sucker! Even when printing grayscale, the three subtractive primaries are used. Jam the 'idiot switch' with a pencil eraser and look inside while you print a solid 'black' test/purge pattern. See it laying the cyan down first? Duplexing is hit 'n miss- sometimes the driver does it ok, sometimes YOU have to be the 'duplexer.' Bottom tray just a gimmick. Do NOT open & close the top (ex- to check levels in carts) too many times or it will get stuck 'head cleaning'- you'll have to unplug & replug it to break the loop. It should only do that if you REMOVE and REPLACE the carts, not simply open the lid.. Use printer, use ink; lift top & check ink, WASTE ink. Software ink counter seems to have large steps- thirds or quarters. Carts are also much smaller than older models this unit replaced.

Overall Review: Photo quality is the only reason I gave two eggs. This replaced an aging Epson 777 whose head finally went. Nozzle plate came loose from sub-base. No one seems to stock Epson F084000 heads and they were 125 anyway. The old dinosaur was pretty close with color reproduction on the aforementioned photo papers. Drops were visible, but remember that is a 10 year old design- my 777 was newer however. Don't try to refill the original carts in the IP4700- too hard to completely purge them of air. The thermal head will not have ink in its nozzles to keep cool- you WILL burn the head up. Either get carts made for refilling or a CIS. Watch it though- clearances are tight for your CIS tubing, especially on the left side. When the carriage traverses left, your tubes can slap the left inside edge of the fixed portion of the top cover.

Would be a nice printer if black WAS black and ink sucking disguised as 'head cleaning' was more reasonable- for the _customer_, not Canon's bottom line.
