Pros: Fast startup. Lightweight. Easy to grab and go. With an 8 GB chip you get approx 2500 photos! Can't beat it.
Cons: Biggest weakness is one all compact cameras have - when you hit twilight and evening, there's just not enough light for a clear, sharp picture. It *does* get good pictures, though, noiser than I would like, but still better than everything else I tried. Goes through alkalines fast (but not high capacity NIMH).
Overall Review: I found the Kids+Pets setting the best for Disneyland, where I needed to shoot on the go and had little time to capture moments. The video mode was lots of fun on rides, but even better at the end when the kids were climbing out and hollering with excitement. A LOT less hassle than lugging a video camera. Used rechargeable NIMH batteries (2900 mah) from Thomas Distributing online. Only needed two sets of AAs for the entire day, and I had it on a LOT.
Pros: Easy to hold on to, AA batteries, although it is all plastic has a solid feel, nice size LCD and view finder, face dectection, IS, wide (16:9) shot option, red eye fix (works and is easy), good indoor photos in lower light, AWSOME/natural looking flesh tones and great detail. I am extremely pleased with the pictures I have taken so far.
Cons: slightly thick but uses AA batteries so a good trade off. Wish memory card was not right next to the batteries with a flimsy lid. These are minor cons though.
Overall Review: I wanted a camera that I could simply pic a scene on the dial or use the auto and get GREAT pics. This camera exceeds my expectations. I previously had a Cannon A550 and returned it for this model. The A570IS takes better pictures of people and does better in lower light. I did a ton of research before buying and am confident I got the best camera in this price range. Haven't played with movie mode yet. As always Newegg was lightning fast and included memory card.
Pros: I owned a sony dsc for about 6 years. the other day was the time to upgrade the whole schebang... i researched a lot, i was almost gonna buy either dsc T100 or w200. then i saw this A570 IS.
Technically, this is the best deal you can find for the price. it has GREAt shutter speeds, all the high tech features and very compact.
I believe that the photo quality is BETTER than the SD800 IS, because I checked tens of photos online and compared them. this 570 IS is spectacular.
Why would I pay 350 for SD800IS? no reason whatsoever. for its weak batter section? plus i don't like SD800's design at all. i think it is ugly.
anyway, the thing is i want to be able to take photos when i'm biking or doing sports. so this grip on the right will the do job. you don't have that in SD800 IS
it has all the features I want, comes with 2GB card. what else could you want?
so back to my sony comparison. after seeing this canon i realized that there is no reason to pay 400+ for sony
Cons: none. for this price this as good as it gets. I highly recommend this product for anyone.
Overall Review: i'm so happy that i found my ideal camera at last. small yet powerfull enough to photograph birds... and not ugly like SD800
Great Camera, with some flaws9/19/2007 10:56:09 PM
Pros: Well, common, for the price you can’t beat it. The camera takes great pictures in optimal lighting conditions and “near great” pics in darker conditions. This replaced my broken-but-loved A70. The LCD is HUGE in comparison, albeit a lower resolution. You’ll get used to it though, as you finally have a bigger reference of your subjects. The display also rotates from portrait to landscape as you tilt the camera! <(wow). Facial recognition is incredibly accurate. Sit in front of your TV and aim it, even picks up faces on the TV. Get’s kind of wimpy on 4 or more faces, but hey.. it’s just cool (think F16 missile lock-on) and the resulting focusing WORKS. Size and weight, compared to the A70 is noticeably compact. (although it could be just a tad smaller). MOVIES! Oh man, here is the deal breaker; This baby takes 30fps .avi’s at 640x480 and they look GREAT! Leave the OLD camcorder at home people (just make sure you have a large flash card).
Cons: Oh boy, well, noise and battery life (disposables). I compared the noise in the pics from my old A70 (3.2MP) to this new unit and I could detect SOME SLIGHT differences. However, not as bad as others say it is. Battery life is shorter than the A70, but it also takes 2 less AA’s. The low battery indicator also seems to come up errantly. I got the indicator a week ago, then took my kids to the zoo and took about 25 more pics and the indicator hasn’t come back yet. (note that there is no real time battery indicator, only a flashing red one when your low). So, I think there may be some false positives here. Nit picking here, but what is with the manuals? There is such a thing as to much information, in to many languages, all in separate books. (does this effect the shipping cost? 4 manuals?) BTW, I shoot only in “Auto” and have never read the manual(s).
Overall Review: In conclusion, a great camera that doubles as a cam-corder at a great price. Just upgrade that SD memory to 2 or 4 Gigs and you’ll be good to go with both movies and pics! CHECK THE DEFAULT SETTINGS and set the image quality to “Superfine” (versus the default “Normal”), as this will noticeably reduce the noise that most complain about here. Also, I knocked down the default resolution to 2048x1536 (M2) and find much less noise (back in the A70’s quality). The resulting pics are also easier to edit on the PC. As for the battery compartment that everyone complains about, it’s the same as the A70’s, works great and is functional. BUY IT!
Almost perfect, but one major flaw7/19/2007 6:58:00 AM
Pros: Excellent price for it's category with lots of great features. Pictures look great so far. I love the size and fit and feel of the camera. I like that the camera uses only 2 AA batteries, as opposed to the 4 AA that my older A75 used. Movies came out well also. The lcd display is very clear and eas to use.
Cons: Speed of the recharge of the Flash. My old Powershot A75 (which this replaced) was very quick to snap up consecutive pics with the flash on. The A570 is remarkable slower when the flash is on. It takes amost 4-5 seconds between pictures, which is the camera's only serious flaw in my mind.
Overall Review: A terrific camera that misses perfection with a big flaw. If they could just reduce the time between flash pics back to what it was in the A75 this would be a home run.
Pros: After weeks of reading reviews and comparing different brands and models, I purchased this A570IS camera. This camera is GREAT! When I received it, I put in the batteries and started taking shots. It wasn't until I read the 2 instruction manuals that came with it that I realized how versatile this little camera is.
It can be fully automatic, semi-automatic where you select the aperture or shutter speed and the camera sets the other setting. You can set both aperture and shutter speed manually.
With the 1 gig memory card, you can set it to take the highest number of pixels and lowest compression and still take over 340 shots.
I am still using the original alkaline batteries, and I have taken over 150 shots many with flash. I will be using NiMH batteries when the alkalines wear out. The recovery time is fast. I left on the protective film that Canon puts on the LCD viewer. That seems to protect it very well.
The most important thing is to READ THE BOOK!, then enjoy
Cons: None.
Overall Review: I ran out of room in the Pros. One more Pro:
There is even a little coin battery that keeps the date and time and and other settings you have changed from factory defaults.
Pros: This camera is a nice little camera. Took it out last night for the first time and the pictures look pretty good for a digital camera of this size, price and feature set. LCD is nice and large, lots of 'scenes' to choose from, face detection is very nice and lets not forget IS (image stabilization)all for a nice low price.
Cons: For me, the camera is a tad small, but this was purchased for my wife and it fits her hands nice. Some of the components, battery/sd card door and connection plug door seem like they would break very easy so treat those accordingly.
Overall Review: This is the 3rd canon I have owned, 2nd powershot and one digital slr. I have always been satisfied with the canon product line. For the price and the feature set (IS mainly)and the Canon name this is a great bargain. Don't pass this up!! Especially with NewEgg behind it, SHIPPED FAST!!!
Excellent Choice for the money12/11/2007 5:43:07 PM
Pros: -Great features
-pretty intuitive user interface
-fast power on time, fast focus
-good noise and dynamic range up to ISO 200
-long battery life on 2 x 2650 NiMh
-pretty solid feel to the hand even hough it is all plasic
Cons: -slow flash recycle time, but about standard for 2 x AA cameras
-lousy low light performance, but as good as it gets with a 11/2.5 CCD, which is the most common size in this price range
-unuseable above ISO 400
--can't take good indoor action sport shots, but that is easily rememdied (see below)
Overall Review: After much careful consideration, I finally zeroed in on the A570 IS as the best choice for my needs, I have not been disappointed. All digcams are a study in trade-offs. The major cost issue faced by the manufacturer is the CCD. The 1/2.5 CCD will never create the stunning pictures like those found in a DSLR, especially in challenging conditons. The Mpixel count is not important - it is the noise and dynamic range of the CCD that counts.
When you cram so many pixels into a small CCD, the pixel size goes down, and the noise level goes up. You can not beat the physics of optics and semiconductors. Beware of high Mpixel cameras that use a small CCD!
But this is a mid line point and shoot, so you get what you pay for. Canon does a great job of juggling the trade offs.
An easy solution for indoor sport shots is to get an external slave flash that extends the flash range to 50 or so feet. You would need one of those even if you had a DSLR
