Overall Review: Running just fine in a Gigabyte Z370 HD3P.
Just FYI the stock intel fan that comes in the box with this processor already has thermal compound on it. Right now running at 30C.

Works for me (Not a gamer, at the moment😎)4/29/2018 5:10:25 PM
Pros: First of all I'm not a computer nerd. Replace an 18 year old Sony Vaio running Windows XP. A friend suggested building my own computer so I went with a build kit from Newegg with the I3 8100 processor. Salad processor for streaming video in 1080p and support UHD if I'm not mistaken. If you're not into gaming or CAD drawings, this is a lot of bang for the buck and hard to beat for the price.
Cons: None at the moment

16255 CPU passmark score2/22/2018 5:24:26 PM
Pros: Great speed, lots of cores, stable, runs 29 degrees on my h100i v2
Cons: obviously its not the K if I had known how cool it ran I might have gone for the 8700k and over clocked it.
Overall Review: if you have no interest in overclocking but want a stable machine that runs cool then this is a great cpu. I benchmarked it on passmarks benchmark software and the CPU scored 16255 on the Gigabyte Z370 HD3 board I have it on. That is a top 99 percentile score. I upgraded from a 4790 definitely a performance upgrade.

love it2/22/2018 3:15:19 AM
Pros: Upgraded from fx 6300 and sweet baby jeebus is it an upgrade. No problems so far, I didn't even bother with the stock fan, when I ordered the cpu I just ordered a t2. that said, under load in total war warhammer 2, it peaks at around 75c with all fans on full tilt. will be upgrading to a 212 here soon, hopefully that brings it down.
Pros: Great instructions. Came with paste already on the fan. Extremely easy install and runs like a champ!
Cons: Would have been nice to have a better fan. The one that comes with it is very loud. Would have 5 eggs otherwise

Pretty incredible for the money.1/4/2019 1:01:03 AM
Pros: -Boosts up to 3.8ghz on all cores ( I synced all cores in the Asus BIOS )
-Runs games flawlessly ( EVERY single game that I've ran has had a minimum of 70-80fps on ultra graphics at 1080p, I paired it with a GTX 1060 6gb )
-With a Deepcool Gammaxx GT TUF Gaming Alliance Edition cooler my max temps have never exceeded 58c-60c while under 100% load
-Integrated graphics for trouble shooting
Cons: -The price is... well... pricey in CAD
Overall Review: Absolutely fantastic CPU. I've played SC2, BF1, GTA V, WoW, Rainbow Six Siege, Assassins Creed Odyssey, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, etc... and they ALL run incredibly well with this CPU. Here's my specs:
EVGA 1060 6gb
ASUS ROG STRIX B360-G GAMING
Team T-Force Delta RGB 8GB ( I have another 8gb coming )
DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX GT TGA TUF Gaming Alliance Edition
EVGA 500w BR
Intel 545s 512GB
Cooler Master MasterBox MB500 TUF Gaming Alliance Edition
Pros: I have it mainly for running XPlane 11 and it typically loafs along at 30% even with almost everything maxed out. The video card I'm using is just a 1050 TI which is typically doing 35-50 FPS (with everything but anti-aliasing turned all the way up). The proc typically cruising along at 4.3GHz with the supplied stock cooler. Doesn't get hot at all.
Cons: No cons at all. It rocks.
Overall Review: Awesome processor, you won't regret it.

First Intel 6 core Cpu3/17/2018 1:17:17 PM
Pros: Bought the i5 8400 along with a Gigabyte Z370P board and I have to say coming from an AMD FX 8370 which ran very hot @4.0ghz/4.3ghz turbo. The 8400 runs faster than my old FX chip also runs way cooler even with that tiny stock cooler which I will be replacing very soon. As for gaming on the i5 I don't experience that much stuttering as I did with my 8370, runs all my games maxed out at 1080p even on my RX 470 card which made it felt way more optimized.
Cons: Stock cooler is small and looks cheap
locked cpu but 4.0 ghz turbo is great too
Not really a con but no HyperThreading, don't know if you even really need it for chip like this runs just fine.
Overall Review: I decided to look at Intel's offerings for my first Intel build but I read up on how the Ryzen 5 1600x are plenty good also. I also noticed that it said in the specs for the i5 says base clock is at 2.8ghz but it actually runs at 3.8ghz at least for me it does but I don't know if everyone else has different results.
Would have gotten a newer gpu but prices for them are unreasonably high.
my setup:
Gigabyte Z370P D3 RGB Fusion
G.Skill Aegis 2x 8gb=16GB RAM @2133mhz
Intel Core i5 8400
XFX Radeon RX 470 4gb
Pros: plenty of power
Cons: none
Overall Review: Running just fine in a Gigabyte Z370 HD3P. Just FYI the stock intel fan that comes in the box with this processor already has thermal compound on it. Right now running at 30C.
