CORSAIR CMXAF1 Fans

Pros: Out of the box to installed in the system: 3 minutes, tops. Quiet, especially when combined with a fan speed controller (or controlled through BIOS fan controls). Clearance for almost any memory, DOES NOT have to be used with Corsair Dominator series only, can be used with any memory stick that complies with "standard" height and size.

Cons: I guess if you had a couple of gorillas moving your PC around for you (being rough with it) the cooler could work its way off. The cool "mounts" to the memory retention clips of your motherboard via compression/friction only. If you wanted to make this more secure I suppose you could apply some nonskid rubber strips to the cooler finger clips. Personally, my setup works just fine as is. The cooler does stand a bit tall, if you are using a low profile format custom case this probably won't fit, measure first, buy next.

Overall Review: Does sit close to my Zalman 9500 but doesn't touch (on an ASUS P5N32 SLI Plus). On the same board an eVGA 8800GTS installed in the first PCI-E 16x slot comes very close, but does not touch, the memory cooler.

Pros: If you're looking to cool your oc'd ram, then this is a nice-looking workable option. The CMXAF1 comes with a 3 pin connector for easy monitoring from your mobo or an aftermarket monitoring device. It sounds relatively quiet, considering the fans are smaller, higher rpm than some others in my system.

Cons: Now for the bad news...the clipping system seems an afterthought. These fans are basically relying on your memory clips to stay on--in other words, they aren't very secure. The fan assembly easily slides left to right on the ram clips. The screws used to tighten the fan assembly onto the ram clips leave a lot to be desired...I tried adjusting the thumbscrews several times, but had little success in securing the fan. So if you plan on transporting your PC, it's a safe bet to just leave off the fan until you reach your destination. Also, I couldn't say if the fan helped cool my ram a great deal since I am not oc'ing too high.

Overall Review: My install includes a Aw9d-max, Rosewill Z3 cpu cooler, 2x1gb Dominator pc28500 and a bfg 7950gt video card. The CMXAF1 fans seemed to fit snugly amongst these components, didn't have to remove anything to get this mounted. It seems likely that these Dominator fans can cool non-Dominator ram as well, as long as the heatsinks don't exceed the height of the Dominator heatsinks.

Pros: Fans to keep your ram cool, looks really good in your case. Corsair.

Cons: No way to adjust the height if your ram doesn't stand 3" tall. It actually generates a lot of heat from the fans, I'm not sure if the heatsink on it takes care of all of it or not.

Overall Review: If your looking to make your system look cool this will hit the spot, but if you actually want to cool something off.... I would suggest looking elseware.

Pros: This is a very well constructed set of fans that clip to the levers that lock or clip your system memory into place. It went on smooth as butter if you take your time and look at it and understand where it attaches. I had no problems getting in on, it was so simple.

Cons: There are none. I feel like I stole this for 19.99. Air flow over a already superior heatsink design is just a great plus in cooling your modules.

Overall Review: I have 4 GB of memory or 4 sticks of the C5-9136 Dominator. I have the one fan centered over the 4 modules and it is a perfect fit. Initially I contemplated ordering 1 fan per 2 sticks but that would have been an error as there is only room for one fan and it covers all 4 GIGS. My 680i has 5 fan headers or plug ins and one is right near the memory, so a job well done and took a whole 5 seconds to install. I am just about ready to fire this bad boy off.

Pros: cool quiet easy to install.

Cons: no LED lights but dont really care lol

Overall Review: For the people who quick to give this product 1 out of 5 scores, and claim that your tech level is 5 out of 5, i seriously pity you. if the noise is so much of a problem, then there's this GREAT invention called "FAN CONTROLLERS". You say that your tech level is maxed, but why haven't you heard of fan controllers! they lower the fan noise that you so claim to have, and cool your ram!

Pros: Gives RAM extra cooling.

Cons: Probably not necessary.

Overall Review: Of all the components of a computer, the RAM is the one I have had the least issues with over time, so having a cooler for it doesn't really seem necessary. But, I had an extra fan header on my MSI A85X motherboard and this was on sale, so I figured I would give it a try. It does push a fair amount of air over the RAM. Case air flow normally doesn't push air down among the sticks like these fans do. So of course the RAM will be somewhat cooler, which should increase system stability, particularly if overclocking the RAM. They have some aesthetic appeal as well. It was neat to watch them spin up for the first time through the side window of the case, appearing to be still at points as the spin rate coincided with some multiple of the rate at which the human eye processes visual data. The fans each have a different patterned sticker, which sometimes briefly becomes distinct, then blurs as the spin rate goes out of sync with the human eye. One last little note -- they are a bit fragile. A day after I received this unit I accidentally knocked it off my desk. It fell about 3 feet and one of the fans broke. I wasn't going to RMA since I had caused the damage, so I went to see if I could fix it. It had broken where the blade unit meets the spindle, and some super glue and a 24-hour wait (for good measure) did the trick.

Pros: This is a great fan, the speed (noise) is on par with most others, but having tighter blades (like a turbine) within close proximity of each other & directional ducting increases the surface pressures generated on the ram. Very similar to a single stage turbo for your car. They keep my hot, QX6700 based system operational for nearly 5 years and counting. These little fans turn at just above the 5k rpm mark and do make a little fan noise, but it's high in pitch that you won't likely pay any attention to them. They don't clatter or whine... they just work.

Cons: These fans will outlive your fan headers... so be sure to keep an eye on the headers. They take dust accumulation very well and it also silences them without falling below 5.1k rpm. I recommend cleaning them yearly with a few q-tips and they will last 2 PC's lifetimes.

Overall Review: Purchased from Newegg 2007 with my Corsair TWIN2X2048-9136C5D for nearly $450. These fans allowed Corsair to clear hot spec'd memory and all of it still works. I trust both Corsair and Newegg's products. *Always test your motherboards' fan headers before your finished with your new system. Some don't always work &/or they don't always report speeds; so return the boards before you run out of time.* Always shell out a few more dollars and make Newegg happy when buying any mission critical fans, as they can report their speeds and trigger a system shutdown on failure... having that is nearly priceless!

Pros: Keeps you from burning up RAM, keeps memory very cool, easy to install, decently quiet, affordable. Plenty of cooling headroom.

Cons: You may want a controller to slow down high speed fans. They have a lot of cooling headroom available, and if it's overkill, you could easily bring the noise down with a fan controller, for good cooling, and silence together in one elegant package. Requires maintenance. These fans are lubed straight out of the package, but are prone to going dry. A little sewing machine oil on the sleeve bearings will solve this.
