Pros: Great warranty Long cables Modular Design Corsair link Gold certified Good price the quality Comes with PSU bag, cable bag, case badge, black screws, zip ties Quality construction
Cons: Large Size Can run a little warm Corsair Link requires a motherboard USB header.
Overall Review: For the price this PSU is a great deal, not only because it will provide enough power for almost any setup, but because it is built to last out of quality part. The cables being a little longer allow for easier cable management in mid and full tower cases. In addition the modular design insures that only the necessary power cables are used in your case. Under silent operation the PSU can run a little warm but under load that fan will kick on and is still very quiet.
Pros: • Excellent warranty • Proven leader in the PSU industry • Uses CWT as their OEM (quality PSU maker) • Long cables for full tower cases • Black wires sleeved in black mesh – very clean design • Full modular (no 4-pin cables to stash away) • Zero RPM fan mode (won’t kick on until 40% load capacity) • Corsair link allows you to switch from between single and multiple 12v rails • Gold certified • Japanese capacitors (higher quality) • Dual 8-pin EPS support • 71 amps = high-end triple SLI/Crossfire support • Good price for high quality • Little extras that some people care about (case badge/zip ties/PSU bag/cable storage bag/black install screws) • Huge multi-language manual that has some useful information (individual cable lengths is a standout)
Cons: • Cables are really long, so tougher cable management in smaller boxes • Big PSU body takes up valuable space in small case builds • Uses the popular dual 6+2 PCI-E design (two connections on one cable) – not a fan of this style, as it makes for a big wad of cable coming off the GPU • Silent fan design means the unit will run a little warmer
Overall Review: So many people dump a ton of money into the “glamour” components. Hexacore procs, high-end GPUs, fancy RAM, bling cases – but scrimp on the PSU. The PSU doesn’t make your games run faster, doesn’t perform complex calculations, and doesn’t give you much in the bragging rights department. What it does do is far more important – supply stable power to all of those fancy, expensive parts. Cheap PSUs pop caps on $300 motherboards, and fry $500 graphics cards. The PSU should be the foundation of EVERY build. A good PSU will be the cornerstone of every rebuild, traveling from case to case, bringing confidence and security along the way. The RM850i is another outstanding PSU in a long line of quality units distributed by Corsair. The RM850i brings a lot to the table. Nice looking unit with neutral matte black/white design that will look great in any build. Full modular design, so no need to hide unused 4-pin/8-pin or extra PCI-E cables. I’ve hand-sleeved a lot of PSUs in my time, and while I prefer the individual cable look, Corsair did it right with the RM850i. All black wires, tight black mesh, and ribbon cables for the SATA/Molex strings. Effective design that looks fantastic. The cables are all very long, and had no issue running behind the mobo tray in my Corsair 700D test build. While I’m not a fan of the dual-end PCI-E cable design, it is efficient, and makes wire management easier. Corsair executes it well with the RM850i. Very few people are truly qualified to properly test a PSU, especially from the standpoint of having the needed equipment, and the ability to work with controlled power loads. Those numbers are easily found in online technical reviews. What most people care about – is knowing what their PSU can handle. Here’s my test build: • Intel i3570k (overclocked to 4.64 GHZ @ 1.31vt) • 32GB of Mushkin Black 2400MHZ RAM • 3x EVGA SC GTX 780 • Creative X-Fi sound card • 11x Fractal Design Silent Series 120mm fans (two push/pull radiators) • Swiftech MCP655 pump • 4x LED light strips The RM850i fan didn’t turn on with a single 780 installed. That would make a lot of people nervous, which is why Corsair has a fan test button on the rear of the RM850i. A second 780 got the fan going. Very quiet fluid dynamic bearing design meant that the fan could not be heard over the volume of everything else running. After the third 780, fan noise was still at a minimum, and the RM850i was actually cooler to the touch (despite the load) because of the now active fan airflow. I went ahead and played Titanfall for a couple hours – no hiccups, no restarts, nothing that would even make you notice the RM850i was really working. A quality PSU is like a good NFL offensive lineman – if it’s getting the job done, you don’t even take notice. Corsair delivers a serious hit with the RM850i. Great performance, warranty, clean looks, all for under $160 (at the time of this review). That’s an easy buy for me every time. High
Pros: Well I'll start off by saying that in the end it is a power supply, there isn't too much that can be said. That said there are some really nice and unique features to set this one apart. The cables are modular, well wrapped, and 98% of the wiring is black so any ends sticking out before the plug wont stick out like a sore thumb. They also come in a very nice bag that you can store the cables you don't use in it. Speaking of bags the power supply itself comes in a nice felt bag, for no apparent reason other than showing off how fancy it is. I have spent a lot of time picking just the right coolers and case fans to make my computer as quiet as possible, and the power supply's zero rpm fan mode helps tremendously. Mine only seems to come on while under the load of gaming, and even then it is much quieter than my previous power supply, and barely audible while on. The ability To select single or multiple rails helps system builders insure their components get a stable power supply from idle to full load. And the corsair link allows you to monitor your power usage, temperature, fan speed, and efficiency. The capacitors are Japanese, which usually means better. Only time will tell however.
Cons: So far the only cons are pretty much petty issues. The corsair link requires one of your usb headers on your motherboard. It also does not come with an installation disk so you must download the software from their website. This keeps costs down and insures everyone gets the most recent version of the software when they get their power supply.
Pros: 850 watts is almost into microwave oven territory for most people. This unit is sleek, quiet, and powerful. The modular cabling makes setup and installation a breeze. The ability to hook directly into WOL ports on compatible NICs is an added bonus. I really liked the idea of being able to manage my power connections via the software and usb header connection. This is something that should be done with care however so you don't fry your machine!! Not having multiple graphics cards, this PSU is more than enough for the LGA2011-v3 processor and my nvidia gtx560 gpu. This unit was a step up in terms of noise and power from the old 750ax that i bought a few years ago and I can't say enough good things about corsair's quality in terms of these units. The unit comes with a little nylon bag to store any unused cables, a few cable ties for organization and a nice velvet pouch for the psu itself.
Cons: My only knock would be to have some type of threaded nut on the modular connectors instead of the springy clip locks. Nothing worthy of removing a star, and it would also most likely increase production cost.
Pros: + Fully modular Design + 80 Plus Gold certified + Japanese capacitors! + Corsair Link + High quality construction + Fantastic warranty! + Longer cable length + Quiet fan (when it is running) + Excellent price for the performance + Flat Cables
Cons: - Runs a little warm in zero fan mode
Overall Review: Test System: Intel i7-5820k (OC'd to 4.5Ghz), Cooler Master Glacer 240L, ASRock Fatal1ty X99X Killer, 16GB Gskill Ripjaw, MSI GTX 980ti Gaming (OC'd to 1508/8000), 256GB Adata SX900, 2TB Samsung F3 w/Crucial M4 64GB (cache), Corsair AIR 540 (w/4 Corsair fans) Corsair has long been a well regarded name in computer power supplies. The RM850i is an excellent example why they have such a good reputation. Just opening the box, you are greeted with a well packaged no nonsense power supply. No shiny chrome or gold, just simple black yet attractive design that looks ready to do business. The interior layout of the PSU is clean allowing for good airflow and uses high quality components including Nippon ChemiCon primary capacitors. The PSU is dead quiet at low to moderate loads as the fan typically will not spin below 40% load. Even when more heavily loaded at around 60-70% capacity it was not really audible. Exhaust temps were very acceptable, with my thermal probe seeing a highest reading in the low 40C range when loaded. The efficiency is great, at least according to the Corsair Link utility that showed it slightly beating 80 Plus Gold certification levels. I personally was pleased with the slightly longer cable length and Fully Modular design. My Corsair AIR 540 did not need the added cable length, but I do builds with larger cases that some PSU's cables struggle to reach everywhere when trying to do clean cable routing. Overall I am very pleased with the Corsair RM850i. It offers ample power for just about any build, excellent efficiency, fantastic 7 year warranty, great build quality and is priced in line with other offerings (currently even has a $20 rebate bringing it to under $140).
Pros: WHOA! That’s a big box! Very high quality power supply and it “looks the part.” I like that it is all black and not some other wild color. All modular cable sets, use only what you need and toss (or save the others). The supplied storage bag is nice if you want to save the extra cables, depending on what the future may be with your system (aka, another video card maybe?). Came with a nice little supply of zip ties, now you have no reason for a messy wire job, although, you might need more then they give you. This power supply was put in my generic “gamer” pc. A pretty normal build by today’s standards, i7, 16GB RAM, SSD (primary), 3TB mechanical HDD, high-end (see power hungry) video card (Nvidia GTX970). I REALLY like the software interface that is built into the power supply. VERY cool little application (although not totally needed). It was still cool to see temps and rail voltages. Typical high quality power supply items, like a good QUIET fan and Japanese capacitors. So this thing should last a pretty long time, which is also evident with the warranty that Corsair supplies: 5 YEARS! I still cannot get over how quiet this thing is and it is still cool to the touch after playing a few hours of GTA5. Do NOT SKIMP on a power supply. This thing is a very good deal for the price. Honestly the warranty alone should speak volumes, most decent power supplies will come with a 3 year. This one having a 5 year means that Corsair believes in their product. I’ve used quite a few of their other products (see cooling) and they have yet to let me down.
Cons: This thing is NOT going to fit comfortably in a small case or compact case. The cables are LONG and are really made for a full or mid size tower. I didn’t have any issue with my Antec case, but if you are thinking about (or have) a small case, you are going to have to pull off some amazing wire-tying tricks to get everything to fit and look right. Some might not like the fact that this thing is so quite. I myself like to know if my power supply is cranking out a decent amount of air and this power supply with the way that it is designed is almost ALWAYS silent.
Overall Review: : 850 watts is a beastly amount for a power supply. I think that this thing will suffice for just about ANY gamer unless you are pulling some serious SLI action. The price is very respectable considering the wattage and the warranty is nothing short of amazing, honestly. I’ve seen it time and time again, that people do not plan out what power supply to get. THEY ARE IMPORTANT! Unless you are building a budget office or internet type PC, you want to budget at least 150 or more dollars to get a good power supply. After all, that thing is supplying power to EVERYTHING! Think about that for a minute… Would you really trust all the cool parts in your computer to a no name or low wattage power supply? I wouldn’t. I’ve also seen some custom gaming rigs built and then after a little bit of game play, they system will lock up or there will be “artifacts” on the screen. This is usually always due to an under-powered power supply. Even with me being a EggExpert reviewer, I want people to know what is going to work, how intuitive a product is and that it is a value, because at the end of the day that is all one can ask for! I look forward to continued good service out of this product and feel that it is a great deal!
Pros: I haven't had a chance to install this power-supply yet but my preliminary reaction is WOW. I picked up the delivery box off my porch and man is it heavy i thought for sure there was other items in the box with this power supply but there wasn't its just heavy. Looking at the power cables they are very high quality,Well Built cables with black anti-cut sheath. Power supply looks great has a large cooling fan in bottom of supply. Very impressed so far with just the feel and look of the Power Supply i can wait to install it. Will update my review when i get it installed.
Cons: None so far
Overall Review: This Power supply is FULLY MODULAR!!!!

Eggxpert Review
Pros: First, this product performs as advertised!!! No disappointments at all. An excellent manual comes in the box. Digital link Dashboard software- You must download this from Corsair, It does it's job very well. Its GUI lets you see at a glance your temp and power info for your PSU. It also lets you monitor other fan speeds and temps in your machine, plus your CPU activity. This is where you can select between single-rail or multi-rail mode. It also installs an icon in your task bar. Clicking on this icon pops up a menu that gives you instant access to this info. It also lets you choose between “Quiet Mode”, ”Balanced Mode” or “Performance Mode” Digital link also gives you control over other available Corsair products. i.e. case fans, liquid cooling systems and case lighting. A 7 year warranty, not 5 years like other PSUs in this class. This alone is worth a few extra bucks!! 80 PLUS Gold certified for min 90% efficiency. It usually operates closer to 91%. It also has excellent stability under a load with voltages barely fluctuating, if at all. Very quiet! The fan does not come on until it is needed, There is a fan test button to allow you to make sure the fan functions. I tested the fan before it was installed and had to put my ear on the power supply to be able to hear it. It is so quiet that any other fan in the system will keep you from hearing it at all. Cables This is a fully modular system, meaning that even the main mother board power cable is modular. This may not be the case in other modular systems. This makes installation very easy and allows you to route cables so as to minimize air flow disruption. The cables are long which gives you flexibility where they are routed. A very nice case to store unused cables is a nice touch. This PSU weighs only 4.37 lbs. It replaces a Corsair 650w that weighed over 7lbs. This certainly helps in installation and if mounted high, makes your case a little less top heavy. The overall appearance of the RM850i is one of a high quality product. It has very smooth edges and comes in a cloth bag to protect the finish. Everything about this product is high class and would be an asset to any system.
Cons: Two minor issues that could be improved. If you are not familiar with Corsairs link products, then you will wonder what that strange cable connects to. It is to connect to other corsair products. A better explanation of this cable use would be appreciated. Also, The fan test button is on the same side as the cable connections. So it is inaccessible when the computer case is closed. Also, depending on where the PSU is mounted, the button may be blocked by the cables. While this is not a major issue, because you can monitor the fan speed with the dashboard. The fan test button would be better located next to the power switch. One other thing. The software is windows only, A Linux version would be nice.
Overall Review: If you are still reading this, then you are either thinking about building a high end machine, in the process of building or looking to upgrade. In either case, you probably didn't settle for any old motherboard, processor or video card. You bought the best that you could afford. So don't skimp on the power supply. This may be a bit of overkill for you, but, then again, it leaves room for expansion. It is a bad feeling to build a computer and find out that your power supply won't handle the load. You won't be sorry that you bought this one! Your other components will probably be obsolete before the warranty runs out on this power supply. This is definitely a full size ATX power supply. It is physically large. The measurements are 5.9” x 3.9” x 7.1” it fit perfectly in my full size case, there was no room to spare length wise. The cables are also long enough for any ATX motherboard. Installing in a smaller case my cause some issues with cable placement.
