Fantastic PSU

Pros: Even just building a standard office PC you need power. This thing delivers. Never skimp on power, this PSU is in the middle ground sweet spot. Modular, to save space. Super quiet fan, not to annoy the user. very stylish black finish. Corsair is always a go to PSU supplier.

Cons: UPS delivered it next door

Other Thoughts: Total, safe bet to buy. Even the big "A" recommends it, 5 egg worthy of your next build

Vengeance 650M

Pros: So to start, this is the second version of this power supply. The first version, like this one is a Channel Well Technology built unit. CWT has build most of Corsairs budget line of power supplies. Very reliable, well built and very few have failed in service. With a Hong Hua rifle bearing fan that only spins up when needed, very clean layout and nice solder jobs this is a clean unit. Now, the story behind the switch; this unit only has one 12v rail but its set up with a virtual rail allowing the user to put power to a high end GPU if needed. More of a marketing gimmick I think but may actually work in some set ups. Build quality, performance and value are right up there with the best built power supplies.

Cons: So the specs list “Single Rail 12 v = 54A” “Multi Rail 12v = 5 rails @ 30A each” That doesn’t add up? Not sure how you came up with that but I would love to hear the story. Those darn flat cables, never have liked them, they are stiff and break connectors easy. If you heat them up with a heat gun or hair dryer it makes them much easier to route. The switch is just a marketing ploy, don’t care for it. Not necessary in my opinion, will it sell more units? Probably

Other Thoughts: This power supply carries on the Corsair reputation of reliable budget power supplies. I have used many including a bunch of the CX line, TX, HX and AX. Never have one of them failed. Its good looking well thought out and I’m sure Corsair will stand behind it for 5 years. So even though there are some questionable items with this power supply I’m not taking off a star. The positive of this unit makes up for the negative. .

A Quality Semi-Modular Power Supply

Pros: 1. 80 PLUS SILVER Certified, which means 85% to 88% efficiency at 20% to 100% load.

2. Zero RPM fan mode (for quiet operation at low to medium loads).

3. Five (Type 3) modular cable headers on the power supply case: [a-b] two eight pin PCIe/CPU headers, and [c-d-e] three six pin SATA/Molex headers.

4. Five (Type 3) modular cables included: [a] two eight pin (6+2) PCIe connectors, [b] one eight pin CPU connector, [c] three SATA connectors, [c] two SATA connectors, and [d] four - four pin Molex connectors.
Also includes one Peripheral (Molex) to Floppy converter cable.

5. Three permanently attached (fixed) power cables: [a] 24 pin motherboard connector, [b] one eight pin CPU connector, and [c] two eight pin (6+2) PCIe connectors.

6. The 12 vote DC voltage is broken into five 30 amp rails: [a-b-c] the three fixed cables (listed in #5 above) [d] one modular PCIe/CPU and two modular SATA/PATA headers, and [e] one modular PCIe/CPU and one modular SATA/PATA headers.
Also includes a switch on the power supply case to combine the five rails above into a single 12 VDC rail.

7. Japanese capacitors with a 5 year Corsair warranty.

Cons: 1. My build has no use for the fixed (permanently attached) two eight pin PCIe connectors cable. So my build has one loose cable tucked into the bottom of my case.

2. It would be nice if it included a few Peripheral (Molex) to SATA converter cables, however these do not supply any 3.3 DC voltage (since Molex only supplies 12 and 5 volts DC).
This would allow the PSU to be used for a build requiring more than five SATA power connectors.

Other Thoughts: 1. The 750M includes two additional cables (and headers): [a] three SATA connectors, and [b] two eight pin (6+2) PCIe connectors.

2. Don't skimp on the power supply for your build. A better quality power supply means less stress on all the components in your build
I once thought a hard disk drive in one of my builds was defective, but it ended up being poor quality voltage from the power supply.

The awkward, maybe perfect, middle ground

Pros: - 0 RPM fan mode
- 80+ Silver efficiency rating
- Semi-Modular
- 5 year Corsair warranty

Cons: - Limited connectors
- Cable sleeving is okay at best

Other Thoughts: This power supply seems to be in a middle ground in the market; there are quality power supplies priced less than it and more feature rich power supplies priced more than it. The less expensive power supplies will have a lower efficiency rating and a fan that always spins, and the more expensive power supplies will have a higher efficiency rating and may even be fully modular. And that leaves this power supply in a bit of a no man's land - if you want an excellent power supply, you will be looking above this unit and if you want budget, you'll be looking below this unit. But, if you are riding that middle line, this might be exactly what you are looking for.

With decent build quality, a good warranty, and nice-to-have features this power supply has some good things going for it. One of the best features of this unit is the 0 RPM fan mode; it is common to see this in high-end power supplies but rare to see at this price point. When it comes to fans, you can't get quieter than off. On the negative side though, the connectors and cable sleeving are lacking. The biggest problem I have with this power supply is that there are only 5 SATA power connectors. Once you plug in a fan controller and an RGB controller and a disc drive and a pump there's only one connector left for a hard drive. To be fair, if you need more than 5 SATA power connectors, you probably aren't looking for a power supply at this price point. The other problem I have with this power supply is the cable sleeving, particularly on the 24-pin power connector. There is a fair length of wire not covered at all and then the longest piece of heat shrink vinyl I have ever seen used on a power supply.

Overall, this power supply blends budget-friendly with user-friendly in a solid, middle-of-the-road package that will work well in just about any computer.

CORSAIR Vengeance 650M – semi modular, quiet, stable, reliable

Pros: The CORSAIR Vengeance 650M PSU has a black exterior, uses high quality capacitors, has no LED lights. It is smaller than other higher wattage power supplies I use, and this was important in the case I am using. It is a semi-modular PSU, with four fixed connections (i.e. ATX 24 pin for motherboard, 8 pin EPS for CPU, and two 8 pin PCIe for graphics cards). The remaining connections are modular, which is a nice feature as it is unlikely to need a floppy adapter or 4 pin peripheral connectors in modern builds. Installation was simple. The 80 Plus silver certified means this will be 85% efficient at typical loads. The connectors are firm and given confidence they will stay connected.

The 120 mm fan is quiet, especially in zero RPM mode and makes no fan noise depending on the load. It does not switch on until 260 W, then the fan is still single digit dB noise level until well over 500 W load. The 12V is switchable between single rail (54 A) or multiple rails (five at individual 30 A max each) with a button on the back of the PSU.

In use thus far, it is very stable and quiet. The five-year warranty suggests Corsair is confident in the built quality and will stand behind the product.

Cons: The inclusion of five SATA power connectors might not be enough for some builds, though more SATA connectors are available on the 750W model of this power supply.

Other Thoughts: In addition to this PSU, I use CORSAIR power supplies in three other builds in gaming, home server, and general office/web use PCs and the performance has been stable and reliable in each.
