Will this work with the Ryzen 7 9800x3d?  I thought RAM was not cpu specific.

go to the support page for your MOTHERBOARD, there should be a compatibility for memory area somewhere, it is more dependent on the motherboard than the CPU. you can also go to the CORSAIR web site and use the memory finder.
