Most Favorable Review

My new favorite

EVGA GeForce GTX 280 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card 01G-P3-1282-RX
EVGA GeForce GTX 280 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card 01G-P3-1282-RX

Pros: A great and reliable card for all purposes. Does actually run games like Bf3 and Skyrim on high settings, although of course in DX9 or 10. I originally bought this as a physx card/ backup card in case my new gtx 670 went south like ive heard they all have. Have been using it as my primary card as I get a refund processed from newegg for my 670, and now that i've seen its performance i'm almost considering just keeping this card instead of trying a new 670 lol

Cons: Runs a bit hot, even with the 3 nice case fans i have, but if you're buying a 200 series card you have to expect that. Download EVGA precision and mess with the fans speeds to cool things down somewhat. Even at max speed, the fan isn't to loud, so i just keep it at 100%.

Overall Review: If youre a budget gamer, i urge you to get this card. Skip the 550ti or the 460 256 bit as this gives MUCH better performance for the price. It wont let you down believe me

The Overclock is Ridiculous

Galaxy 64TGF8HX6FTZ GeForce GT 640 GC 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card
Galaxy 64TGF8HX6FTZ GeForce GT 640 GC 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

Pros: -Cheap -Runs everything except hardcore games fairly well -Ive never seen it go above 47C

Cons: Doesnt come with GDDR5.

Overall Review: Using Precision X, ive managed to run overclock it all the way up to +173 Core and +115 Memory over what it comes out of the box. With the galaxy overclock that makes it +223 Core overclock o.O I raised my Heaven benchmark FPS from 27 up to 38 from this overclock. Thats nuts. Even with this, ive never once seen it go above 47C. Thats just bonkers considering how gimped the GT series is supposed to be. If this came with GDDR5, the sky would be the limit in terms of performance.

Best Budget Buy

Intel Core i5-3470 - Core i5 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.2 GHz LGA 1155 77W Intel HD Graphics 2500 Desktop Processor - BX80637i53470
Intel Core i5-3470 - Core i5 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.2 GHz LGA 1155 77W Intel HD Graphics 2500 Desktop Processor - BX80637i53470

Pros: An Ivy Bridge, Runs Fairly Cool, Blazing Speed, Good Performance for the Price (see other thoughts), Super Easy Install

Cons: Could be a bit cheaper, Could run a bit cooler (see other thoughts)

Overall Review: In reference to the price, while you still get great performance at this price point, you could dish out an extra $30 bucks and get the fully unlocked version and have fun. Honestly if this is your first build, just spend the extra money as overclocking your CPU is one of the most fun experiences you can have. Its super easy, and once you have some moderate experience and a nice aftermarket cooler you can more than make up the money you spend with greatly increased performance. I've heard and read a lot regarding the new Ivy bridges and their inefficient heat dissipation. And upgrading myself from a Sandy Bridge I3 to this, i can tell you that under heavy load, my temps are way more than double what they were even with a great aftermarket cooler i bought just for this. I've applied a gratuitous amount of thermal paste and checked and rechecked my airflow and i can say for certain that under heavy loads Ivy's don't perform as well as their cousins.
