Super Value!!

Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Black) Single
Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Black) Single

Pros: Looks better in person, 2 sets of 5 way binding posts, "can" produce impressive bass.

Cons: None worth mentioning.

Overall Review: First of all, when the egg offers the super sale, you end up getting way more for your money!! While owning these lovely speakers, I had the chance to experiment with; wiring, amplification and placement. You can bi-wire, but don't expect a major difference, I ended up making homemade jumpers from 10awg wire and just running a single set of wires. You can bi-amp from the AVR but again, don't expect an audible change worth writing home about. Placement, for best results from a 10' listening distance, I spaced the 70's about 8' apart, pulled off the wall about 2.5' and toed them in so the axis crossed just behind my head. They imaged very well, providing depth and clarity at an exceptional level considering the price. Power; these bad boys are hungry. I ran them off of my AVR and in stereo, they were fed right at 135wpc. I added an external amp providing 200wpc, and when the volume is cranked, I noticed more detail coming from the 70's. Now, check this out. The 70's are rated at 275w. I demoed them for sale hooked up to an amp cranking out 300wpc. The Monitor 70's became a different speaker, the additional power did two things; 1) allowed the M70's to yield even more detail, impressive detail. 2) the M70's had a bass output that was felt in the floor. Suddenly, I was hesitant to sell 'em, I was shocked and impressed with the sound that my speakers were making, so much that I told the buyer that I might have second thoughts. The buyer was equally impressed and quickly shelled out my asking price and was happy about it!! Speakers are more likely to clip from being underpowered than over powered (get your read on with speaker clipping). The Monitor 70's responded incredibly to the additional power. These speakers, in my set up, were primarily used for H.T, not that great for 2ch music, but when the power came on, they became a musical speaker that I hadn't heard before, the detail and depth just blew me away. I used 12awg copper speaker wire and replaced the stock jumpers with 10awg copper speaker wire. At retail prices, these speaker are highly recommended, at these incredible sale prices, I'm wondering, what the heck are you waiting for???

Perfect for my gear rack

Thermaltake Massive 14² Notebook Cooler
Thermaltake Massive 14² Notebook Cooler

Pros: Runs in a USB cable, dual fans, fairly quiet, multiple speeds, LED's can be turned off, more uses than an lap top cooler, low profile

Cons: Not 100% quiet, but that's okay

Overall Review: A friend and fellow Home Theater enthusiast recommended this product to me. I use it in my H.T. gear rack. I was using it on an Onkyo TX-NR807 AV receiver. This thing has a tendency to get pretty warm while in use, the "lap top" cooler just sits on top of the AVR and presto, the AVR now runs very cool. The AVR measures 17" wide X 18" deep and this "cooler" sits toward the rear of the unit, over the HDMI board perfectly, and, having dual fans, the area is covered very efficiently! If you listen very closely, you can hear it, but if you don't know it's there, you'd never guess I have a dual fan cooler doing it's job. I've since upgraded to an Integra 70.4, I don't know if it gets warm or not, the Massive 14 has been on top of the new AVR since I've installed it's been nice and cool since day ONE! Highly recommended, I have external power amplifiers as well, currently using small AVR fans however, I plan to upgrade to another one of these bad boys! It is efficient, quiet and I like it!

ONKYO TX-NR807 7.2-Channel Black Home Theater Receiver
ONKYO TX-NR807 7.2-Channel Black Home Theater Receiver

Pros: Pre-outs, Rated at 135w per 2ch, Audyssey, multiple listening modes, Ethernet port, plenty of analogue and HDMI connectivity, 7.2 availability, even more features

Cons: HDMI board failures

Overall Review: It may be a moot point by now for this model however, I have enjoyed my Onkyo 807 for around 5 yrs now! After 3 yrs, the HDMI board went south. Onkyo gave me an out of warranty fix, I was out of pocket only the cost of shipping one way. It's been a champ ever since. I run three amplifiers from this unit to power 5 speakers, the 807 powers the surrounds. I use my 807 daily whether it's blu rays, CD's or internet radio. For music, the 807 offers "Pure Audio" LOVE IT!! Yes, it's true that Onkyo has had it's more than fair share of HDMI board failures, but when handled properly, Onkyo has taken care of their customers, I know of others beside myself, so my claim is accurate!! And now, after 5 years of ownership, I'm ready to expand my theater to an 11.2, enter the Onkyo TX-NR3010, with my 807 still running strong, will retire it's H.T. duties to a 3.0 bedroom set up :) I have no interest in the new Dolby Atmos, but instead prefer the capabilities of Audyssey MultEQ XT32 offered with the 3010. Hopefully, those with unfortunate HDMI failures will see this and ask Onkyo for a "one time out of warranty fix". This has been a great receiver, no need to let it go to waste over a very fixable scenario.

For the right Room and set up

Polk Audio CS10 Black Center Speaker Single
Polk Audio CS10 Black Center Speaker Single

Pros: Very nice looking speaker in person. Has a real nice sound.

Cons: Prone to smudges on the end caps.

Overall Review: This center speaker can "make" your set up, just go in with some basic knowledge; it's great for a small to medium sized room, it can use extra power to enhance the overall sound stage, should be paired up with same make and series. With that being said, you can mix and match any speaker brand you want however, achieving a seamless sound stage is generally the preferred goal! The CS1 can and should be paired with the Monitor/TSi series. The Monitor 50 and TSi 300 for towers. The Monitor 30's and 40's and the TSi 100 and 200 would also pair wonderfully with the CS1. The CS1 is an excellent speaker but can be easily overpowered it paired in the wrong set up. If you're running the medium to large towers, the CS20 or CS2 is IMO the way to go. I had the opportunity to demo the CS10 and 20 side by side. At first glance, the CS10 is musical, produces great clarity and intelligible dialogue. Enter the CS20, dial them both up and the CS20 leaves the 10 appearing to struggle and sound under powered. The CS10 is an awesome speaker and the performance can be unparalleled when placed in the right set up. Bottom line, recommended for med to small mains, for a med to small room, and can handle external power.

Best Surround Speaker

Polk Audio F/XiA6 Timbre-Matched Bipole/Dipole Surround Loudspeakers - Pair (Black)
Polk Audio F/XiA6 Timbre-Matched Bipole/Dipole Surround Loudspeakers - Pair (Black)

Pros: Dipole or Bipole setting, great both musically and theatrically, can be used as side, rear or height surrounds, easy to drive.

Cons: N/A

Overall Review: Besides my first set up with satellite speakers, I've used three different speaker in the surround position; Monitor 30's, M40's and M70 towers that were amped with 200wpc. While the bookshelves did a great job, the tower was most impressive. Enter the F/Xia6, with it's opposed tweeters, sound literally "surrounds" you. The pair create a 360 degree sound field, IMO the best surround speaker you can get!! If you've been considering this speaker, don't wait, it's the one to have. The F/Xia6 is a powerful speaker, I run these in my set up with four RTiA9's and the CSiA6.

In response to Cheri W's review

ONKYO TX-NR626 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver
ONKYO TX-NR626 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver

Pros: Great customer service

Cons: NONE

Overall Review: I thought Cheri's review was a bit harsh! Anyone who's been "in the know" with Onkyo receivers over the last four years knows it's common knowledge about the HDMI board issue. Not every Onkyo receiver suffers the HDMI plague but it's common enough that Onkyo will do what it takes to clear up the problem. My TX-NR807 ran great past it's 2 yr warranty, in the third year of ownership, the HDMI board went south. Did Onkyo blow me off?? NO! I received an "out of warranty" fix. At no cost to me, other than shipping one way, I got my HDMI board replaced, with a firmware upgrade to boot. After over 4 years of ownership, the 807 is still going strong. At the end of this year, I'll upgrade to the TX-NR3010 to expand my set up to an 11.4.......and the 'ol 807??? It gets relieved of it's Home Theater duties and gets to move into the bedroom to power a 3.0 in-wall set up. And the 626 here, this looks like a fine receiver, like other Onkyo receivers, it's feature packed and has Audyssey MultEQ. That's what my 807 has and it works great, it gives you a fantastic basic layout of your speaker set up, which you could leave as is, or you have the ability to tweak each setting it you want. Great flexibility and a great feature, it's all about sound, who wouldn't want that?? Highly recommended!
