Pros: Small and pretty fast! Installed portableapps on it and have a few truecrypt volumes too! Works wonderfully

Overall Review: People say this is a slow device. I don't find it to be slow. sure, it's not as fast as a hard drive but very usable. Here are some tests I performed: # dd if=/dev/zero of=/media/disk/test100MB.file b s=1M count=100 100+0 records in 100+0 records out 104857600 bytes (105 MB) copied, 11.5904 s, 9.0 MB/s # hdparm -t /dev/sdb /dev/sdb: Timing buffered disk reads: 88 MB in 3.06 seconds = 28.74 MB/sec A 100MB file full of zeros transfered at 9 MB/sec, hdparm showed unbuffered reads as 28.74MB/s which is on par with the specs.

Pros: Low power yet pretty fast dual Gigabit

Cons: Won't boot without the 4 pin power connector attached No IDE controller (solder pads exist for it though)

Overall Review: Installed pfSense on it and it works flawlessly. The chassis I had didn't have the 4 pin 12V connector on the power supply so I wired one into the molex connector for the hard drive. Works fine. it would have been nice to use an old IDE drive for it but an old USB stick works just as well. Not worth dinging an egg off the rating.

Pros: Small enough for my needs, takes both PATA and SATA drives.

Cons: The manual looks like it was translated by a trained monkey using Babelfish. It's pretty painful to read. But, if you know what you're doing, you don't need to read it anyway.

Overall Review: People are listing the fact that eSATA doesn't work with PATA drives as a con, and yet they show their tech level as high. This is just common sense and it says in the manual that it isn't supported that way. PATA isn't SATA folks. Also, I can confirm that as long as your USB port can supply full power, I have *not* needed the power assist plug to operate the drive (the thing with the 2 usb ports). I've had this connected to a Wii for a week now and no problems so far. I suppose YMMV, and perhaps if the drive is a high speed drive that requires more power you may need it, but for a standard 4200 rpm PATA drive, the USB power is quite sufficient.
