Dell 469-3937 E2013H Black 20
  • neweggOwned For: more than 1 year

5 out of 5 eggs Good value if correctly applied. 06/06/2013

This review is from: Dell 469-3937 E2013H Black 20" 5ms Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 1,000:1

Pros: Cheap for a monitor with these specs. Aptly suitable for a workstation monitor in a compatible environment. DVI and VGA capable which is a big plus to me. Reliable so far. Good range of adjustments for video display.

If you're buying monitors for business workstations this monitor will do a decent job on text and graphics display.

This monitor is a good choice cost-wise if you need multiple monitors or augmentation for a primary monitor.

Cons: It's what you would expect from a cheaper monitor so maybe not a con but "heads up", you're not buying a high-end super-brilliant, super responsive monitor. This is a base model and it acts and looks like a base model. It should be evaluated for it's specified capabilities and it's real world performance compared to that reference.

Unlike my high-end Dell primary monitor which uses touch sensitive buttons, the controls on this monitor are mechanical. The buttons are activated by pressing the right side of the button and they hinge/pivot on the left. If you push straight down you'll probably think they don't work right.

If you're thinking you'll buy this monitor and get a high-performance monitor cheap then that's your fault not the monitor's or the manufacturer's. The specs are very clearly stated and accurate.

The low price and Dell name probably induce people to buy this monitor that shouldn't.

It's not impressively bright or white.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't buy this for a primary monitor. My computer has six monitors- 2 old Princetons (I replaced the factory caps), a 32" TV, 2 of this model Dell and one very good Dell Ultra-Thin monitor as the primary.

If you're looking for a decent budget monitor for your kid(s), a security camera screen, a cheaper monitor for everyday but not long duration use or secondary monitors in a multiple monitor application this monitor will do the job very well.

With six monitors on a single computer cost is a major factor for me. A function of cost is how often a monitor needs to be replaced. Longevity is important and that's why I bought this monitor. So far it's held up well, even being moved across the continent lately when I re-located.

Don't buy WD green drives for a system hard drive, don't buy a cheap video card for a primary card, and don't buy this monitor for a primary monitor if you work at a computer all day and this is your only monitor.

Mobotron MS426 Portable Devices Car Mount Holder
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

5 out of 5 eggs Works for me 04/10/2013

This review is from: Mobotron MS426 Portable Devices Car Mount Holder

Pros: Very sturdy and holds my Toshiba netbook (which is on the large side for a netbook but still smaller than many laptops) just fine. It has a decent range of adjustment for position and I was able to get my mount to hold my computer where it can see and use it easily.

Remember to look at the pictures and description, this model doesn't have the pan/tilt head so to adjust some angles you have to swivel the whole thing on it's floor mount lug.

That floor mount lug is quite substantial.

The joints and quick release levers seem to be very sturdy. It looks like it's built to last.

Very easy to dismount for the (in my case rare) passenger's comfort. Can also easily be positioned to allow the passenger to operate whatever you have attached to this mount.

For my purposes the device retention is excellent, it fits very tight and solid. If I were to get in an accident that would damage the mount/device it would be a bad enough accident that those would be the least of my concerns.

Cons: None. I don't see any design flaws, material inadequacies or workmanship problems at all. It looks to be very well made.

Other Thoughts: Take a look at where your seat mounts are if you intend to use this by attaching it to a seat mount bolt. The fork that goes between the seat mount bolt's nut and the mount/floor/whatever is too short to work in my vehicle but I already KNEW that when I ordered this mount. In my opinion this is not a con because if it were longer it would be less stable.

I drilled a hole in the floor and got a great big bolt with the proper washers and lock washers to stabilize everything solid. It's out of the way for a passenger when the mount is detached.

I have an SUV with a LOT of electronics gear in it. Including ham radios, CB, MP3 players, scanner, cell phone booster, etc. There are 8 antennas on the vehicle. It's always problematic finding a place to mount something new where it will be functional, not distract my driving, and not obstruct something else. This mount replaces a cheaper mouth that didn't work nearly as well.

I'm very happy with this mount overall.

Irwin 2078611 12-inch Metric Quick-Adjusting Wrench
  • neweggOwned For: less than 1 day

3 out of 5 eggs Beware, Genius's at Large ... 12/09/2012

This review is from: Irwin 2078611 12-inch Metric Quick-Adjusting Wrench

Pros: It's a wrench that is easy to adjust. It's an ADJUSTABLE crescent wrench. It only needs one hand to adjust. It's the "better mousetrap" version of adjustable crescent wrenches. It comes with either SAE or Metric markings scaled on the side of the wrench so you can tell what size fastener you're trying to use this on.

Cons: It's still an adjustable crescent wrench and it still has the same failings of any other adjustable wrench as far as turning nuts and bolts goes. My Dad used to call adjustable wrenches "Polish socket sets" (as in Poland, not as in buffing material). There's a reason he said that- Adjustable wrenches are prone to rounding off nuts and bolt heads making them useless to real crescent wrenches and necessitating the use of a vise-grip. Especially those that are difficult to turn in the first place. This one is no different, it's just more bulky than a real, fixed crescent wrench- but easier to adjust with one hand than the standard type of adjustable wrench

It would have been just as easy for this company to put Metric scale markings on one side of the jaws and SAE on the other side and call it "universal". I guess they're no smarter than some of the people making a big deal about this being a "Metric" wrench.

Other Thoughts: The only thing that makes this a "metric" wrench as opposed to an SAE wrench is the marking on the side of the fixed jaw that tells you what size it's set at. That's all. It will fit anything you can get it around and tighten it up on. However, if you fit it on an SAE nut or bolt and look at the scale engraved on the side of the wrench it will not tell you which REAL SAE crescent wrench or socket you need because it's graduated in metric units not SAE. That is the only REAL advantage of having those graduations engraved on the wrench, so you don't try 3 or 4 crescent wrenches or sockets before you find the one that fits.

That's what makes this wrench METRIC and not SAE.

Otherwise, it's an adjustable crescent wrench and I'm sure all the genius mechanics commenting on Metric vs. SAE are smart enough to already know that. Or not, you pick.
