Great Computer w/ minimal work!

HP Mini 311-1000NR Black Intel Atom N270(1.60 GHz) 11.6" 1GB Memory 160GB HDD NetBook
HP Mini 311-1000NR Black Intel Atom N270(1.60 GHz) 11.6" 1GB Memory 160GB HDD NetBook

Pros: -Computer looks great, albeit a bit of a fingerprint magnet. -The 1366x768 resolution is a nice improvement over most netbooks. -Even before I upgraded it, it was a speedy lil guy, prolly the fastest computer using an atom processor ive ever seen. -The access panel is BRILLIANT. It's one panel for everything in it, making it easy to upgrade. -The included HDMI port is great and the screen looks amazing on an 1080p television! -Can play most games that are at least 3 years old. And even a lot of newer games at mid-to-low settings. -Unlike others I find the plastic design to be a good thing, this netbook seems more rugged than the asus I had bought previously.

Cons: -Touchpad is one of the worst ive ever used (I explain how to fix it below) -Ion chip is limited (also see below) -(personal gripe) The Vga port could have been better used as a mini dvi port. -Would be nice if this version came with win7 as well, luckily I had an extra license lying around so it wasn't a big deal.

Overall Review: <<DISABLE THE TOUCHPAD>> 1. Download the Alps Dell Touchpad Driver from the dell website. 2. Once you have located the file download and install it. (Note: you may get a warning saying this is an older driver version, ignore it and install anyways) 3. Once it is installed (you may have to restart) Go to your mouse settings from the control Panel. 4. Now you can either choose to disable the touchpad completely or Just disable it when an external mouse is present! Enjoy! (NOTE: There are some slight compatibility issues, so the taskbar button will not show text, but its nothing major) <<Removing ION LE limitations(allowing DX10 support)>> All the tools you need are located @ myhpmini. I wish I could link but thats not allowed in reviews, just google myhpmini and you will find what you need in the forums.

Just FYI!

Galaxy 67NQH6DN6KXZ GeForce GTX 670 GC 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: I have not yet received the card but I will rewrite this review when I do. I am writing this to warn others buying the card right now. DO NOT SHIP WITH FED-EX! Fed ex will hand off your package to the Us Postal Service and add an additional 2-3 days to your shipping. The package will have taken over a week to be delivered by the time I receive it. A total rip off and extremely frustrating.

Cons: Fed Ex Shipping is a joke.

Fantastic value!

AVEXIR Budget Series SDRAM 8GB Single Channel Kit 240-pin DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Module Model AVD3U13330908G-1BW

Pros: -Great value for 8 gigs. -Compliments my htpc perfectly -Got exactly what I expected for the price.

Cons: -No heat spreader (but at this price I can hardly complain) -Seems to hiccup at times. -runs at 1088 initially and required some tweaking.

Overall Review: Overall this is a great little stick for your budget builds! I used it for my htpc, but I can't recommend this memory if you are doing a heavy or serious build.

Bios Is Scrap

GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: -Great price for a high performance board. -Plenty of room for a sli or crossfire setup. -Runs my amd-fx eight core flawlessly. -The onboard sound is amazing! I had waited to buy a sound card and I am glad I did. Bought a 7.1 speaker system for it and it sounds beautiful!

Cons: My first few months of owning my computer I was consistently frustrated that any games I played would often crash or say I was missing a dll file that I actually had. Sometimes they would actually bsod my entire computer. I returned both my graphics cards and got replacements and still ran into this issue. So I completely re-installed windows. After all that, I decided that I would try to install a beta version of the bios for this board. FINALLY all my issues were resolved and my computer is a lean mean gaming machine like it's meant to be! TL:DR: You will likely need to update the bios to a beta version from the gigabyte website to fully utilize your computer with this board.

Overall Review: Other than the bios problem, this is a FANTASTIC board, and I highly recommend it.
