Pros: Small, sleep mode, works well
Cons: Buffalo tech support ignoring me. :( Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement power supply that will work specifically with this unit? I asked Buffalo support to send me the specs or quote me a replacement power adapter, but they never got back to me, and I can't gleen enough information from the product description to guess what it is, plus the plug size is unique to the unit. My house flooded, but the water only get to the power supply unit. Now my data is sitting in this NAS, but I can't access it without power. Thanks to anyone who replies w/ a link to the replacement PSU, or Buffalo if you could let me/us know!READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Cheap, quiet, entry-level, email alerts option
Cons: Not much documentation - have to find it online
Enabled email alerts, got spammed with about 600 emails saying a drive was going bad in 1 day
Other Thoughts: I work in IT for a living, and as such if patience wasn't a virtue in this profession I may have already sent this unit back.
I'm using this in a RAID 1 setup. I have 2 1TB drives, one of which went bad on me within the first day after I setup the RAID (note, I am not saying this is the NAS' fault). As such, I can still access my data, so that is somewhat comforting that the RAID array worked.
I did some further testing (I'm going to store pictures and movies on here, so I want it to be reliable), and reset the password and IP and such back to factory defaults, shut the unit off via switch and hard-pulling the plug (while data was not writing to it), and the unit still came back just fine. After I replace my failed 1TB drive (I'm not sure if the drives have to be identical as far as manufacture, etc...)I will let you know how things go.
So far I think this will work well. An option to configure how often you get email alerts would be nice...for example, only send an alert every hour, unless it is a new problem, etc..
Pros: Solid feel
Tech-support (so far)
Cons: Battery was DOA
Documenation claims "tested at factory"...haha
Unable to find out what all the different status' mean for the power button indicator
Other Thoughts: Received my first ever tablet. Bought it for my wife. However, the battery appears to be dead right out of the box. The little battery symbol had a question mark on it, and it never went above %3. I charged the table for 4 hours to be sure it didn't have anything to do w/ the controller chip learning the charge, but no difference. The power button indicator would stay solid orange for about a minute, and the just keep flashing. I was not able to find ANYWHERE what the different indicator lights mean. I opened a ticket w/ Acer support, which was fairly quick and got me a repair order put in. Still, I'm not quite comfortable yet w/ this. I will update after I get the tablet back from the repair center (about 2 weeks or so), and update my overall rating based on that experience.READ FULL REVIEW
