CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 650W ATX12V/EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply

Pros: Good quality power supply. I brought this for my new DVR build. Nice and quiet.

Cons: It's not modular. I wish I noticed this before buying. There's not alot of room in a HTPC case. This means you got to be creative stashing the unneeded cables.

Other Thoughts: Handles my power requirements without breaking a sweat.

Intel Core i5-4670 Haswell Quad-Core 3.4 GHz LGA 1150 84W BX80646I54670 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics

  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Does what I want it to do without breaking a sweat. Handles HD video easily.

Cons: The supplied fan could be better.

Other Thoughts: Brought this for my HTPC and paired it with a ASUS Z87-EXPERT MB. No need for a video card - I just use the HDMI output on the motherboard.

APEVIA Black SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-BK/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: A low cost well-built case. Despite the cons I listed below I like this case and would buy again.

Cons: This is marketed as a HTPC case. Apevia needs to lose the silver buttons which detract from a fairly decent looking case. The front facing firewire port is useless as my new ASUS motherboard doesn’t have this port. The front USB 2.0 ports should be USB 3.0. The blue led is a bit too bright for me. I ended up using electricians tape to partially cover it. I was shorted a couple of standoffs but was no big deal as I had spares.

Other Thoughts: If you use your own power supply make sure it’s modular as there’s not a lot of space to tuck those extra cables.
