3 out of 5 eggs Nice printer but Aggravating Driver 04/06/2017

This review is from: Samsung Xpress SL-C480FW Wireless Multifunction Color Laser Printer

Pros: For the price it prints very well with pretty good overall quality.
Features at the price and resulting value is very good.

Cons: The most aggravating think about the printer is the driver. It always wants to open a preview and can only handle one preview at a time, and takes longer to open the preview than it does to print. WHAT!

I quite often want to print multiple documents in quick succession, usually PDFs. Normally I just select all of them in Windows Explorer, right click and print. That DOES NOT work with this printer. It will open the first in preview and then error on all the others. Have yet to find a way to universally turn of the print preview. I can open all the PDFs at once and when printing the first one change the printer settings to not show a preview then manually switch to each file and print it. But have to click print for each file. Have found that to be the quickest way. Very aggravating when trying to process multiple files.

Other issue is there is no way to manual feed paper. This makes printing labels, envelopes, etc... painful. Could not imagine a printer without this ability so did not research it before buying. If I had realized this I might have done something else.

Other Thoughts: I only very occasionally need to print in color but do print a good bit in black and white. Have had a B/W laser printer for years. Kept an injet around just for the occasional color print but when needed the in cartridge had usually dried out. Bought this printer to cover both and the addition of a sheet feed scanner was a huge plus. At the price this fit my needs very nicely.

However, there are features of my less expensive B/W printer that I very much miss. Manual feed, quick printing and duplex are the main ones.

I am no visual expert but the quality of prints is on par with our very high end color printer at the office. Not nearly as quick but quality is very close. The only noticeable quality issue I find is the finish on the type is glossy. Think gloss paint versus flat paint. I am accustom to laser printers having a flat finish that makes type easier to read in bright light. I find that the type from this has a slight glare in high light levels that make is more difficult to read than other laser printers I have used. Not a big deal but is noticeable.

Overall this is a very nice low end color printer with some useful features. If you are doing basic home printing the things that are lacking are not a big deal and this printer serves the purpose. Like I said earlier I miss some of the features of my old B/W laser printer but they are not a show stopper and I knew they weren't there when I bought it. The way the driver works does leave me aggravated because there was no way to know it was going to limit my ability to print the way I am accustomed to operating.

Canon PowerShot G16 Black Approx. 12.1 Megapixels 5X Optical Zoom 28mm Wide Angle Digital Camera

Pros: Purchased this camera to take pictures at my son's high school graduation. You know, far away from stage, high zoom, folks moving, etc... With every other small digital camera I have owned this would have resulted in blurry poor quality pictures. This camera did an awesome job. The pictures turned out great. And the capability of taking very fast continuous shots enabled me to snap 20+ pictures while he walked across stage. No worrying if I was going to catch him with his eyes closed or with some awkward look on his face. Very impressed with the camera.

Cons: The printed manual is not very good. It goes through the wireless setup but not really into the camera features. Took some time to figure out the settings.

Other Thoughts: I have wanted to buy a digital SLR but my wife (who takes most of the pictures in the house) does not want a large camera or one with many controls. So we have always struggled with getting good pictures at school events indoors. This camera has solved that problem. She can set it on automatic and take great pictures with indoor lighting. Have also taken some photos under street lights with no flash and was astounded at how well they came out.

Brother HL-2240D Monochrome Laser Printer

5 out of 5 eggs Great Little Home Printer 02/04/2013

This review is from: Brother HL-2240D Monochrome Laser Printer

Pros: Works well and love being able to do duplex without manually flipping pages.

Cons: It is noisier than the HL-2040 it is replacing but hey I am not trying to sleep when it prints so who really cares?

Other Thoughts: Managed to catch this on sale to replace an HL-2040 that has been indicating a drum error for about 6 months. The HL-2040 still works fine but I figure it is due since it is several years old and has run many thousands of sheets of paper. If this one lasts half as long I will be happy.

Seems to be very similar to the HL-2040 with just a few exceptions. The most notable is that the way paper stacks on the top is better. The HL-2040 was rounded on top and if the paper "catcher" was not flipped up it would sometimes push paper off the printer. This one is more flat and I don't think that will happen. Also, the paper "catcher" on this one does not stick out like the HL-2040.
