ASUS ROG GeForce GTX 1070 STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready Video Card

  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Super fast and way more quiet than I ever expected even with the fan control to max. Runs everything I've played at ultra settings (BF4, BF1, Gears of war 4, Plants vs Zombies 2). And I guess the nifty little color changing night light for some people might be considered a pro.

Cons: The nifty color changing nightlight really seems like a $money$ waste, at least for me. My case already has nifty color changing lights so the ones on the graphics card aren't even noticeable. I'm sure I'm the minority on this opinion but I think why pay extra $money$ for for a feature that doesn't help to improve the performance of my card? How much $money$ was added to the cost of the card because of them? Remember, it's not just the lights but also the engineering to mount them safely in the structure and also software was made to run them through windows. Now that I think about it, it's less of a con since it doesn't de-tract from the card in anyway and more of a "what's the point ",for me anyway.

On another note, when I first installed it it reset all of my BIOS settings to default. That was weird but easily fixed since I know my system so well.

Other Thoughts: Super happy with my purchase choice because a lot of other GTX 1070 reviews had a lot of complaints about coil whine and I don't like things that whine! My daughter does enough of that every day! Also, you will really NEED to hav a ful tower to handle this card. it is the largest and heaviest graphics card I've ever purchased and believe you me, I've purchased a lot. My first was a Voodoo II 8MB back in 98'.

My Specs:
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
AMD 8150 BE (not currently overclocked)
16 gig G Skill Value Ram DDR3 1600
The graphics card is obvious.
1 terabyte HDD
Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower with added nifty little nightlights.
Cooler Master 750 watt certified silver PS
My stuff might be starting to show it's age but it's still kickin' it really well!
