ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q 34" Ultra WQHD 3440 x 1440 100Hz Curved IPS G-Sync Asus Eye Care with Ultra Low-Blue Light & Flicker-Free Gaming Monitor with Speakers Tilt Swift Height-Adjustable VESA Mount

Pros: Bought this for being the best-specced ultrawide 1440p G-Sync monitor available on newegg at the time. I've owned it for about five months now and I'm still impressed by its beauty every time I sit in front of it, even for non-intensive non-gaming related activities. The extra screen space is excellent for photo & video editing. The large screen real estate makes even semi-modern websites look like tiny age-gone relics in web design. Games support may vary, but the ones that do support this monitor's potential are astounding. Being able to manipulate the viewing angle in a variety of brand new varieties to me was a nice experience. Although it's a subjective thought but I think the bezel and stand look very nice. They also feel very sturdy and well-made. The stand is all metal of some sort except for the bronze part, which is not a heat sink or anything even though it looks to be like one, it's just a plastic design. The monitor casing is all plastic as well. The front and rear both look pretty good. The additional panels to hide your cables is a welcomed plus.

Cons: As with any display there will be some light bleed, however this panel has the least amount of light bleed in any LCD panel I've ever used. It's up in the corners and can be manipulated by squeezing it, but it doesn't bother me too much. The back leg of the stand is at the very rear edge of my desk. There is a definite risk of it falling off the back of the desk and it does demand having a much deeper than typical desk so I really wish the bezel could have been engineered to take a bit less leg room. There is also quite a large gap between the panel surface and the outside surface of the screen. This is common in monitors of these types. I saw a very small bug crawling around inside my screen recently so I have a legitimate concern about living creatures managing to make its way into it dying inside the monitor on the presentation side. Last con is all your friends will be extremely jealous. Expect a percentage of your new ownership of this monitor to be used by your acquaintances. Very serious with this one.

Overall Review: If given the choice, I'd pick this over similar competitors simply because it felt like the best choice of the best specifications, and its lived up to my expectations while somehow surpassing them. I sometimes gloat about owning this thing since it's my first time owning anything of its kind. If you're reading this close to my posting time, consider this monitor if you want the best specifications possible, but if you're six to eight months down the line, consider the newer models and competition as well. This model won't let you down as a first try in the enthusiast market like I've done, but later on you know there will be something better.

WD Green WD40EZRX 4TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - Bulk Bare Drive
WD Green WD40EZRX 4TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - Bulk Bare Drive

Pros: Reputable manufacturer. Highest amount of storage for the lowest price as of the day I'm writing this review. Green drives are very quiet, and despite what some people think, can be quite sturdy and reliable.

Cons: DOA (Defective On Arrival). Allow me to explain what I mean. The drive did work for a few hours, but disappears from Windows altogether at seemingly random intervals. I was able to copy files to it and run a benchmark on it. This means that this particular drive I received, along with many other defective drives of this same model, are capable of passing a benchmarking test at the factory as if they are fully working, but were actually defective. WD may want to do a silent recall and double check this model. As another reviewer said, a defective drive adds about ten seconds to boot times since the motherboard knows something is plugged in but can't recognize the device. This usually only happens to old hard drives that are about to die.

Overall Review: Some people are getting functional drives, some people like me are getting the defective ones. Be wary of buying this particular model. I've got a lot of faith in WD and I won't think twice about buying from them again. Just have to be a bit more careful about which drives I get from them.

Pros: the case is a calming aqua color

Cons: DOA

It does nothing

Vantec 2.5" / 3.5" / 5.25" SATA / IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter - Model CB-ISATAU2

Pros: N/A

Cons: Power brick was not functional. Could not provide power to either of the drives I plugged into it. I moved it to different outlets and double checked the connections. Clearly it's defective. There may be a lot of these defective Vantec products on the market, as this purchase did not come from Newegg. Don't buy this product from any vendor unless you like chancing a high likelihood of getting something that just doesn't work.

Overall Review: There was a shard of plastic stuck in the male end of the molex adapter on the end of the power brick large enough to block the connection. I had to fish it out with a knife. After that the brick still couldn't provide power. Wish I could have said something positive but I just couldn't. It just doesn't work, and it's very poorly made.

i'm back

Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model BL2KIT12864AL1065

Pros: perfectly functional RAM

Cons: they failed after a year. in my initial review i said i "wouldn't get sick of the light show". i did. within a week. i replaced the RAM for this reason and gave them to my dad. one of the sticks then failed after a year of ownership.

Overall Review: it's not christmas yet. you don't need lights in your computer case.

GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This board supports many neat features made for the P67 platform. It boasts two SATA 6GB/s ports (read Other Thoughts for explanation) and supports USB3.0 with support for a USB 3.0 case header. I did not get to test the Intel Smart Response Technology because I bought a higher capacity SSD. It may be helpful if you want the performance of solid state and don't want to spend too much money, however read/seek times will still be paltry. The PCI ports are spaced nicely which will reduce heat in SLI/Crossfire setups.

Cons: I couldn't get On/Off Charge software to work as advertised; my iPod would not charge while the computer was off and I didn't bother testing it too much since this was a build I did for a friend. I do not like the placement of the HD Audio port since it leaves a cable resting on the graphics card. This is just the opinion of someone obsessed with cable management. The Gigabyte Cloud OC is easily the stupidest manufacturer-bundled software I've ever heard of. It allows you to do overclocking over the internet. If you've just read that without smacking your own forehead you probably have a lot to learn about overclocking. Touch Bios probably isn't that useful to most people. USB3.0 case headers do not seem to be very popular right now so this port may go unused unless you buy the right case. Most cases make you lead an extension cable out the back. Finally, the EZ Tune software is only any good for testing purposes as every setting is unstable and eventually causes a blue scr

Overall Review: Both the manual and the product description on Gigabyte's website state this exact model has only two 6Gb/s SATA ports. The manual is possibly inaccurate but I trust the official specification list more than Newegg. Newegg should fix this discrepancy. The outdated Realtek LAN controller drivers that come on the included disc will cause a BSOD on boot with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1. This can be easily fixed by downloading the latest drivers from the official website but of course you'll need another computer to get to them. Some of said features aren't very helpful to most people. Lucid Virtu may be a good idea, but it's software controlled and not entirely automatic. The Lucid Virtu setup/configuration I have heard described as "convoluted" and "painful." The gist of a review I read stated that it does not save much power and is more of a hassle than it's worth.
