Lenovo Laptop G575 (43835HU) AMD Dual-Core Processor E-300 (1.3 GHz) 4 GB Memory 320 GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6310 15.6
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: I purchased the G575 last year as, due to a ongoing health problems, I am spending much of my time in the hospital going forward. My first personal laptop (the four I had in the past were for work). I intended to use it primarily for Photoshop and video editing. I figured the addition of 4Gb of RAM should pretty much make the thing perform. Out of the box everything was simple. I'd built most of my PCs in the past and was pleasantly surprised that everything went like clockwork. Although I knew I was going to mess with it. (More about that later.)
If your looking for a decent machine and aren't much of a computer person this is a good buy. I'll leave the Pros at that.

Cons: ow, if you ARE a 'computer geek' (or whatever you prefer to refer to yourself as) this is NOT a good route.

First, Lenovo partitions things oddly. Make sure you know where they like to fung shui things on their HDDs if you intend to reload or repartition. The 320 Gb advertised storage, while technically true, is frustratingly broken up and about 40 gigs is actually hidden and unavailable for use. Some of Lenovo's software is impossible to reactivate if you reformat a partition against their floorplan (which I did).
I experienced similar hinge issues others have. The front left USB port died after the first week. (I didn't bother with if as the remaining 3 were sufficient.)
6 months in the board had to be replaced due to the units ability to receive POWER ceased. After 3 weeks it was finally back on my bed. Of course, replacing the board eliminate that USB port problem but 3 weeks?!?!? I'd rather they had installed an HDMI port...
And I didn't notice that the molded plastic 'grating' over the left side heat vent had lost most of it's 'bars' somewhere during that trip to Lenovo's depot. I will be addressing that when I'm well enough.

The thing that's bugging me most is that although this specs better than my daughters 2 year old Dell laptop her machine is consistantly faster doing the very thing I do on mine. This is not a Photoshop machine.

Other Thoughts: I think this will be my first and last Lenovo.
