Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W BX80637I73770K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000

Pros: This processor is a multitasking beast. You would have to be creative to find ways to lug it down.

Cons: Expensive but if you demand the best then this is it.

Other Thoughts: This is a good "medium" chip for power. The higher powered intel chips go up from here to 500+ and 1000+ dollars respectively with no real performance for the dollar value. I am a bit of a power user but this chip will not even break a sweat loading up workload on it.

Intel BOXDZ77SL50K LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Intel support is the best and they are not going anywhere soon. Z77 board with features of someone wanting a nice machine without SLI and likes older legacy stuff too. (I use PCI boards still)

Cons: There is a bug in the bios. If you change the boot optimizations the board will corrupt the PCI-E bus. Fortunately the onboard HDMI allowed me to return the settings back to get back PCI-E. The latest Bios update does not fix the bug and other people have experience the same problem in the Intel forums so it's real.

Other Thoughts: The board does not have SPDIF on the IO panel but there is an SPDIF hookup via header board capability. Would have been nice had it been integrated but then this is the cheaper board and the next ones up all have it. If you do need SPDIF, keep in mind the header boards run around 20.00 dollars.
