ASRock B85M-ITX LGA 1150 Intel B85 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: It's small

Cons: Forget easily loading OpenELEC/XBMC or Plex on Centos/Ubuntu/Fedora. No FeeeNAS/NAS4Free either. This is one of the worst boards I've tried for Linux/Unix booting, hardware detection. ASRock's driver page is Windows-only, and their tech support people say "Windows only, no Linux" when pressed.

Lexar USB 2.0 Card Reader - microSD / microSDHC / M2 High Speed Card Reader R10w, support 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB capacity
  • neweggOwned For: more than 1 year

Pros: Very compact, fits every USB, doesn't stick out too far. Quick way to slot a microSD size card in and out, even for machines with no SD slot.

Cons: As it says in the title, it really will only support up to 32GB cards. 64GB and 128GB cards give an error and demand to be reformatted.

5 out of 5 eggs Need Right Burner For Success 11/09/2009

This review is from: memorex 8.5GB 8X DVD+R DL 50 Packs Spindle Disc Model 05732

Pros: These discs are cheap and with the right burner -- but only with the right burner -- produce good quality burns with maybe one verification error out of 30-50, and reasonable PIE/PIF profiles on burn scan. Pretty much equivalent to the fabled Verbatim. I tried my best with several Sony/NEC/Optiarc burners and, at best, only got to around 50% burn success with these, even using some custom Liggy/Dee firmware and hand-crafting some Memorex-specific burn strategies. Then I read a review on Newegg that mentioned using a Samsung SH-S223Q with these. $25 later (thanks Newegg) and the Optiarc is relegated to read-only duties. The Samsung S223Q works great, and I've no reason to suspect that the Samsung's other S223 models wouldn't use equally successful strategies. People who swear by the Verbatim are welcome to go on paying almost twice as much per disc. I'll stick with the Memorex-Samsung combo, thanks.

Cons: Well, their price has remained constant for the last year or so now, and given that you can get other discs with the same RICOHJPN-D01-067 ADIP for less, Memorex ought to be dropping the price for a 50-pack into the $25 dollar range...
