StarTech PCI1394_2LP 3 Port PCI Low Profile 1394a FireWire Adapter Card
StarTech PCI1394_2LP 3 Port PCI Low Profile 1394a FireWire Adapter Card

Pros: See Below

Cons: See Below

Overall Review: Just a heads-up that the product does not match the photo... check the Startech.com web site and you'll see that one external port is 4-pin and one is 6-pin. Still good but save yourself the surprise...

Meh

Rosewill Aluminum Multi-Functional Lapdesk RNA-9000
Rosewill Aluminum Multi-Functional Lapdesk RNA-9000

Pros: Folds flat for storage or transport , moderately stable, not totally made of plastic, works to a reasonable extent. Light weight. Close proximity to Newegg means I got it delivered the day after ordering... even with UPS as the shipper! Newegg is great when they don't ship from the east coast!

Cons: Description mentions a rubber wrist rest but mine didn't come with any. Photos don't show any so don't expect one I guess! Hinges components are mostly PLASTIC so unit is not as solid or secure as you might be led to expect and durability may be questionable.

Overall Review: Not what I'd hoped for but I didn't pay a fortune for it so I guess it's OK. Need to rig up some padding where the wrist rest should go so it doesn't damage the front edge of my laptop. We'll see how it holds up...

Mac Mini Server (2011)

G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ
G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ

Pros: Works fine in (see title)! Tried couple sets of another major brand which is usually reliable but those didn't work at all. Either defective or the Mac being fussy! Returned them to the big mail order outfit in WA state! These G.SKILL are cheaper than those even with sales tax so I'm a happy camper! Debating getting another set for mid-2010 MacBook Pro 13".

Cons: None with the product... only that the shipping process used a middleman to deliver to USPS which took forever and would appear to be unnecessary to travel the 17 miles from warehouse to my door.

Overall Review: I used G.SKILL before in older PCs & they seem to be as good as any while a bit less expensive.

They are Mushkin...

Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model 996587B
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model 996587B

Pros: Socketed in no problem & running stable so far in a new build using JEDEC standard timings (5-5-5-18). @ 1.8V.

Cons: None yet... don't expect any... they are Mushkin!

Overall Review: Gonna let my build settle in before I tweak the timings. Will leave voltage alone. This is my second set of Mushkin, with my other set (Silver Line) running great long term FSB OC'd with no issues. Will report if anything sad develops!

Good enuf!

GeIL 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Laptop Memory Model GX2S6400-2GB
GeIL 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Laptop Memory Model GX2S6400-2GB

Pros: About as fast as you are gonna get in a SODIMM format. Low latencies at all speeds programmed in SPD at standard voltage.

Cons: None, except memory of all types has been getting rather more expensive lately!

Overall Review: People complaining about heat probably compare to slower speed stuff... all my memory runs hot! I don't expect any issues long term beyond normal failure risk. There is the warranty though! I did notice that the chip packaging is smaller than my other memory which may affect how the heat is dissipated but not the total amount of heat generated.

OK

Kingston SSDNow V Series 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SNV125-S2/40GB
Kingston SSDNow V Series 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SNV125-S2/40GB

Pros: These are in fact Intel Gen 2 drives rebranded by Kingston. Fast reads, decent writes. Works great in my Atom powered netbook. Low power draw and heat generation. Great upgrade makes a huge difference.

Cons: Apparently Intel decided to sell these themselves and now Kingston and Intel have had a falling out... Kingston apparently won't be offering Intel's firmware updates and so no TRIM support. Kingston is now selling SSDs from other manufacturers.

Overall Review: For those of us with these who run Win 7 and want TRIM there is a way... Google for it.
