Most Favorable Review

Good, but only upto 2 TB drives

Thermaltake BlacX ST0005U External Hard Drive SATA Enclosure Docking Station 2.5" & 3.5" USB 2.0 & eSATA
Thermaltake BlacX ST0005U External Hard Drive SATA Enclosure Docking Station 2.5" & 3.5" USB 2.0 & eSATA

Pros: This has worked well for me. Aside from some problems with eSATA cables, it works great with both Windows 7 and Linux. I've had no problems with disks upto 1 TB (Tbyte) in size. I've had no problems with the plastic or the weights, either.

Cons: The USB interface doesn't work with 3 TB drives, though the eSATA interface seems to work fine. I'm not sure why 2 TByte (2^41) is a magic number for the USB interface, but it seems to be in my case. This is true for both Windows 7 and Linux. Note that this is not a MBR vs. GPT partitioning scheme issue, since I can get the 3 Tbyte drives to work using the eSATA interface. Also note that older versions of Linux can't handle disks larger than 2 Tbyte at all. For example, Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), can't handle my 3 Tbyte disks on the USB or eSATA interfaces. Windows 7 seems unable to handle hot-swap of disks on the eSATA interface, which means that with Windows 7 you're either stuck with disks smaller than 2 Tbyte (USB interfaced), or you can't swap disks without rebooting (eSATA interface). Finally, I"ve had problems with the external eSATA cables becoming loose and causing disk errors when they "wobble". There are no locking eSATA cables and the ones I'm using that fit securely when new seem to become quite loose as they edge (cheap metal in the spring on the connector???). I've bought some more expensive cables that seem to be holding up, but its too early to tell since the cheap cables fit firmly when they were new.

Overall Review: I don't have any 2 Tbyte drives to test with, only 750 GB, 1 TB, and 3 TB. Further, I need to redo some of these tests to be sure I'm reporting them correctly (any updates will follow).

Most Critical Review

Not the best.

PPA Model 3435 USB to PS/2 Adapter
PPA Model 3435 USB to PS/2 Adapter

Pros: Mostly works.

Cons: I'm a touch typist, and pretty fast. This seems to get confused when i'm typing quickly (perhaps when i have three keys pressed at the same time, which can happen if you're fast). It's really not suitable for daily use (for me). Also a bit bulky.

Overall Review: Buy the one from Sabrent instead, the SBT-PS2U. Newegg sells it as well. it works great for me (no problems). i thought i'd already posted a review, but i don't see it some i'm posting again. i bought this over 2 years ago.

These look and perform great!

Ballistix Tactical 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLT2KIT8G3D1608DT2TXRG
Ballistix Tactical 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLT2KIT8G3D1608DT2TXRG

Pros: I bought these based on their performance, but the LED lighting is incredibly cool

Cons: None.

Overall Review: These are not as fast as the sticks they replaced (Corsair XMS3 at 7-7-7-20 at 1600 MHz), but that was a 3 x 2 GB kit (6 GB total) and i have not been able find that kind of speed in *any* memory kit out there today at 1600 MHz. Since my goal was to add more DRAM, sticking with what i had was not going to work. (If anybody is speed obsesses and wants to buy those used, but working, sticks from me then drop me a line.) i actually bought this 2 x 8 GB kits from Newegg as well as a 1 x 8 GB kit because i have a CPU with 3 memory lanes. and because that was all the stock that Newegg had, i went to another vendor (think: "Jeff Bezos") and bought another 3 x 8 GB of sticks (total 48 Gbyte), but only because Newegg didn't have stock. i've got a marginaly tricked out system with a side window, fans with LED lighting, and this DRAM. In terms of aesthetics is the perfect addiction to the show. the colors from the side are dominated by green from the DRAM with some blue from the fans (though red might work as well). the green LED pattern on the DRAM sticks is related to the access pattern which is, IMHO, incredibly cool.

Two Cables Failed after 18 months

OKGEAR 18" SATA 6 Gbps Cable, Straight to Straight W, Metal Latch, UV Green, Backward Compatible 3 Gbps and 1.5 Gbps
OKGEAR 18" SATA 6 Gbps Cable, Straight to Straight W, Metal Latch, UV Green, Backward Compatible 3 Gbps and 1.5 Gbps

Pros: Pretty color. Low price. Latches are secure. Worked fine for ~18 months.

Cons: After ~18 months, I was unable to burn DVD without getting a failure. The problem occurred with *both* my DVD burners (one Blue Ray one Lightscribe DVD). Since I don't use them much, the cables probably didn't fail at the same time.

Overall Review: I was having problems burning DVD with *both* my DVD drives, so it seemed like it must be a software problem with Windows or hardware with my motherboard. Booted to Linux to get better diagnostics, which pointed to occasional "Drive Ready" problems. Swapped cables and motherboard SATA ports between the drives which didn't seem to help. Finally had the bright idea that *both* cables might be bad (because it really looked like a cable problem). Swapping the cables out fixed it! Staring at the cables, they look pretty well put together. My guess is that connector itself failed somehow. Perhaps the springs lost their springiness or something. I should probably give these two stars since they're undoubtedly better than other cables out there, but I really don't have much tolerance for bad cables!

Retail version of HDS722020ALA330?

Hitachi GST Deskstar H3IK20003272SP (0S02861) 2TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Retail
Hitachi GST Deskstar H3IK20003272SP (0S02861) 2TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Retail

Pros: You can buy it.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: This seems to be the retail version of the HDS722020ALA330, which is $20 cheaper. I haven't bought it, but gave it the same average rating as that part. Some suggest paying the extra $20 to get better packaging during shipping. I may do that.
