1 out of 5 eggs worked great ... for month 01/21/2013

This review is from: FujiLabs S1 300 Lumen LED Metal Gear Focusing Flashlight with Bicycle Bracket

Pros: Nice metal case. Compact. Not heavy.

Cons: Product failed just after 30 day window. Will not turn off. Light remains on at 10-20%. Drains battery. Showstopper. Will see if they back their product.

4 out of 5 eggs New HAF X twisted and missing rivets! RMA back to CM 10/09/2012

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF X - High Air Flow Full Tower Computer Case with Windowed Side Panel and USB 3.0 Ports

Pros: Box was delivered without any damage and everything looked good. Went to start a build and heard a rattle. Shook the case and a small rivet head fell out. Decided to make a closer inspection. Used a flash light and examined the case from the inside. Yikes! The 5.25 drive bay was not installed correctly. It was twisted and the flange holding it to the case was off by about a 1/2 inch on one end. The mounting holes of course did not line up and 5 of the 6 rivets were missing!

Didn't want to pay shipping back to newegg so called CM for the RMA. Had a very good experience with Marvin in customer service. Picked up my call right away. Sent him some pics and he confirmed it was an egregious manufacturing error (it's really great when a customer service agent actually agrees with you without any hassle!). Over 4 days traded half a dozen emails and ultimately did a cross ship to save time getting a replacement. CM covered shipping both directions. Took awhile to get my replacement (10 days start to finish) but it did arrive before the 30 day newegg return window for other parts I needed to test and it was properly assembled.

Great roomy case. Love having access from both sides. Build looks great. Overall very happy with my selection. Could easily mount an H100 and still had plenty of room to slip in the ATX motherboard.

Cons: This is a high end case and the flaw should have been caught by Quality Control (it was pretty obvious!). Would have been a 1 star review but Marvin in customer service really surprised me and made it right at no extra cost - so decided on 4 stars.

While the case is roomy, and there are some really nice features (e.g., excellent cooling), there are some design issues. The top cover over the fans are covered by a perforated wire mesh that has very little structural integrity. It's really easy to accidentally lean on them when you are moving the system around and dent them. Fortunately you can remove the mesh (by carefully bending some tabs underneath the cover) and straighten them out. But it would have been better if there was some type of support under the mesh. The small covers over the 5.25 drive slots suffer from a similar weakness. Very easy to dent.

Another design issue (minor) was running the 8 pin CPU power cable behind and over to the motherboard. There is a narrow access channel at the top of the case where you feed the wire through to the front of the motherboard. I actually had enough length from the PSU to make it directly to the motherboard but the access channel was just too narrow (by about a 1/4 of inch) to accomodate the connector at the end of my HX850 cable. I had to use the supplied extender cable which has a narrower connector at each end. Worked fine but I had extra cable length to dress.

Other Thoughts: The case is huge (and tall). But it was a real pleasure installing everything and my P9X79 / i7 3820 system is running very cool despite having dual graphics cards and 8 sticks of DRAM. The wheels almost make it portable.

Seagate BarraCuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5

Pros: Fast, cheap, reliable

Cons: Requires extra steps to work as advertised.

Other Thoughts: Bought 3 to setup a RAID in a new ASUS Maximus rig. All three had firmware SD04, two showed full 32MB buffer, one only 8MB. Contacted Seagate via chat and burned firmware AD14 on bootable CD. But it wouldn't flash. Had to first change SATA type in the BIOS from RAID to IDE. Now all 3 are showing full 32MB. All three were jumpered for 150 MB/sec at the factory. Pulling off the jumpers for 300 MB/sec was almost impossible. Used the hooked end of a small nail file. Speeds without RAID via HDtune were 100MB+/sec peak, 80MB+/sec avg. and 85MB+/sec burst. Seagate should have a) caught the bad firmware and b) made the jumpers easier to use. But they are quiet and work well.
