ZyXEL Powerline AV500 4 Port Gigabit Switch Wall-plug Adapter with PLA4205 Powerline (PLA4225KIT), up to 500Mbps
  • neweggOwned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: I bought this so I'd be able to stream Netflix movies and have broadband supplied to my DirecTV receiver without having the internet modem located in the living room. When I had DirecTV installed last month, I moved my modem into the living room, sacrificing my upstairs home office internet access speed temporarily, until I made time and $$ to have a planned CAT6 internal cabling installation. I was using the home office computer with WiFi temporarily. After reading reviews of the ZyXel powerline adapters, I got this kit, hoping that I'd be able to place the modem upstairs in the office again, and still have enough speed in the living room for Netflix/DirecTV broadband.

I received the kit today, and am happy to report that no software installation is necessary; I just plugged the 4-port adapter into a wall outlet in the living room, the single port adapter into the home office wall outlet, moved the modem back upstairs and plugged in the ethernet cables accordingly...solid green lights on everything, and my download speeds downstairs for Netflix HD streaming are identical to when the modem was directly cabled to the Netflix device! My home office internet speeds are back to wired broadband speeds, no wiring nightmares downstairs in the living room.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: See pros above. I bought this kit at another site (1 day special at $35 less than Newegg's price), although I normally buy from Newegg.

1 out of 5 eggs Horrible 12/21/2012

This review is from: LG NB2020A 2 CH Soundbar Single

Pros: minimalistic understated look

Cons: This soundbar was received promptly and set up within minutes. Upon 1st use, I realized the sound was no better than the built-in speakers on my TV, and exhibited no bass at all. It has an auto-on feature which turn the speakers on automatically when the TV is turned on, and should turn off when the TV is powered off. It works...but when turning the feature off via the remote, it won't stay off. Big static "pop' sound when turned on, then ok for several days...after 1 week, the soundbar speakers sound "blown out" and is unusable, since everything now sounds underwater with loud electronic buzzing drowning out all sound. This is a non-refundable item...BOO to Newegg and LG; now I have a $75 huge doorstop after only 1 week of unsatisfying use at minimal sound level usage.

Other Thoughts: Selling an inferior item with no reviews and a no-return policy (only able to exchange for a replacement same item) is a bad move. I've been shopping at Newegg for 10 years and have spent upwards of $60K in purchases from them overall. Newegg: either take this item off of your inventory immediately and tell LG to go back to the drawing board, or offer a refund/exchange like the majority of your other electronics offerings.

4 out of 5 eggs Pretty Good Bedroom TV 12/01/2012

This review is from: Panasonic Viera 32" Class (31.5" Diag.) 720p 60Hz LED-LCD HDTV TC-L32X5

Pros: IPS Panel for truer color reproduction and expanded viewing angles, LED-lit for less power draw and nicer contrast/brightness control, minimalist styling and thin, decent sound for the size and price, 3 HDMI ports

Cons: 720p (1080i) instead of 1080p, some setup controls confusing and manual not very informative, bad color and lighting out of the box (easily corrected during setup menu navigation)

Other Thoughts: Great set for the price ($290 with promo code). The sound is much better than my other 2 LCD TVs (moot point if you're planning on hooking up to a soundbar or receiver.) 32" is an ideal size for a bedroom TV
