Does this unit run silent or is that fan I see running constantly?  I will be installing it in my home theater and do not want to have any additional noise in the room.

I have two installed in IT rooms, so any noise is a non-issue.  The fan does run constantly, but it isn't a large contributor to the noise level.  Unless you need the pure sine-wave output of this series, you should check out the APC BackUPS Pro 1500; it is very quiet, and you can get an auxiliary battery for longer run times.

The battery used in the UPS is replaceable with the model RB1270X4G. There is no mention of an extended battery.
