Question 1

Cloud?  Does this require that I also need a Cloud account? Or is it basically plug and play, accessible from my iPad after getting the app?  Also, how far from my PC would the camera work, since it is wireless?

Signing up for the cloud account is optional. I found better functionality with the application provided and installed on a local pc. The Cloud service provided by Dlink worked but was limited in the length you could view the video stream and functionality.

I found the camera built in email along with my ISP email provided better results than the cloud service allowed. The application provided with the camera was OK and worked for what it was made for really well. There are some other low cost alternatives on the market but for recording PICS and VIDEO the provided application worked very well and had some great features. I just outgrew it as I added more cameras.

Setting up my email account into the camera and having it send me an email with pics or video on motion was what I was after and it does  this really well with no external application or cloud service needed. That is what sold me on the camera and this works really well.

I have one camera in the front of my house and one at the rear of the house. Both are about 20 foot from my wireless router with a wall in between. I have not done a direct disconnection with a PC although that type of network type is capable. You will need the included cable for a short time to set the camera up initially but after setting up the camera it can be disconnected and used on a wireless network.

I can look at any of the camera with the application provided with the camera or via a web browser anywhere on my network with my windows devices. I have not tried with apple products.  I have used internet explorer , firefox  and chrome web browsers.

The cloud service was functional and free but slow and limited. It did work as advertised. It just did not have the functionality I was after for viewing.

Can this camera be viewed on an Apple I-Pad?

Yes, D-Link has an iPhone, iPad, and Android app called myDlink that allows you to view the camera and hear the audio with the camera's built-in microphone.  I have 4 of these cameras around the house and the myDlink app allows me to see all 4 on one screen (no audio) on the iPad as well as each individually, with audio.

Can you give me some information about the power adapter? I assume it is an AC/DC adapter. What DC voltage does the camera run off of and how much current does it require?

Does this just plug in to my router or my wireless network with no mothy fee and I can see it from my Iphone?

Yes, you can connect this to your router's wifi or via Ethernet cable. There are no monthly fees associated with it outside of your ISP bill and your wireless provider for your phone. You can view the camera using the "Mydlink lite" app. There is some configuring to do, but the included instructions work pretty well. Watched my dog chew up my shoes one morning when I was at work! Now I know the culprit and can stop blaming it on the gnomes!
Be aware that if you have the app running all the time instead of just using it to check in, you can burn up a lot of data on your phone plan.

can i see in and around my house with this camera?

If you have a good light source you can. It's not very good in low light. Also it only see's what you have it pointed at. Works very well in well lit areas.

If you need to see in different directions I would suggest the dcs-5010L you can move it up and down and side to side to see what ever!  I have both and use the 5010L much more! Having movement is much more desirable than a camera that just points in one direction.

Can I Record the picture?

The software drives everything. It has options to record video, or take stills. And as stated, it can be constant, on a timer, or motion activated. The stills can be configured to take one or a series of them every interval you set up for as long as you tell it. If I recall properly, the software can be downloaded for free at dlink. You could install it before buying the camera and look through all the options available..

Does this work with an Ipad2???????

I haven't ever viewed it from an ipad 2 but I have used an ipad 4, iphone 4, iphone 5, and iphone 5s. the only problem with this camera is the lack of infrared (night vision) and the resolution isn't as good as some of the better models, I really like DCS-942L.

Question 8

Can I view this camera in a browser using it's IP address? As in not connecting to a 'cloud' service? I have to replace a few cameras that use NPAPI plugins.

I found this camera difficult to configure with my system.  I gave it away and switched to foscam and found them a lot easier to work with.

Does it work on a Linksys router?

It is an IP camera. You must set it up using internet, then you can connect it to a wireless network

Need camera in vacation home. Is the PC required for remote viewing ? I prefer not to leave the PC running unattended for weeks at a time. Of course the wireless router would be left on continuously.

No, but the local network it is attached to (either wireless or cable) has to be powered up.
