Pros: Is it faster than wireless N? Without a doubt. Writing data to my NAS over wifi is twice as fast as it was previously...now I'm limited by the write speed of the NAS rather than the transmission speed. I am able to stream media all over the house without any hiccups.
I have two of these, the second set up as a bridge to get higher speed network to my second story office without having to run cables. So far the connection has been rock solid.
Treats the 2.4GHz band as a separate SSID, keeping older and slower devices from bogging down your 5GHz stuff. Base configuration is simple.
Haven't had any signal strength issues on any of my devices through my 3 story townhouse.
Cons: Setting up the second unit as a bridge was not entirely simple, and does not work exactly per the directions.
D-Links cloud configuration is a work in progress.
Overall Review: With my setup, having two main hubs for network devices (living room with game consoles, NAS, and htpc - and office with multiple computers) having two bridged works great to get high speed networking without any wires. With a lack of wireless AC cards, I probably wouldn't recommend it for someone with devices more spread out around the house.
Pros: Good router, Purchased for its speed and round about compatability and features. Handling two pc's two Ipods and a blue ray player streaming netflix without any hicups. Media share is a pain but was able to get it up and streaming media from my usb drive across phones and devices able to work with it. Signal strenght has been excellent. Mobile apps work to an extent but after looking at the reviews of competitor apps I see that there all kind of junk atm : /
Cons: Initially getting and setting up i was able to get the router funtioning perfectly fine. But attempting to get the d-link cloud junk to work was a different strory and ended up with me waisting 45mins of my life with a mind u "friendly" yet hard to understand individual that resulted in a "we will have a t2 tech call you" and "You should RMA it" .... I declined the RMA as the device itself was funtioning as intended but the issue seamed to be with the comunication between the site and the router. Doing a little trouble shooting of my own i was able to figure out that the graphical authenticaton option being checked seemed to be what was causing the app and site to hang and time out trying to connect to the device. So disabling it fixed the issue and my Iphone app and d-link web access could connect, once on and playing with the options i realized that changing features with the site and app didnt seem to correctly comunicate with the router and its dash board settings "site would list remote managment as being on" units dashboard had it off : / but it did however show the current connected devices and allowed me to veiw internet history allthough it had incorrect time stamps at times. xp Oh and 3 days later I still never recieved a phone call back from the t2 tech. lol Also note the devise found firmware version 1.02 from the dash board and allowed me to install it but visiting the web site to see what its fixes were i noticed that it wasnt listed on the site at all just v1.01? lol any way is working great so far with it uploaded. Had the issue with the admin pass dissapearing after a reboot of the devise but easily fixed. Some issue with changing settings/rebooting from app or site, Dashboard controles all seem to funtion fine so no biggy there. Routers in general are a pain so over all this wasnt to bad with what it has to offer.
Overall Review: Over all the router works like a dream once configured, I chose to use the open DNS option for my parential controles and am very pleased with the site restrictions functioning properly and the slight speed up in browsing snappiness, The router has loads of options and features for doing what ever floats your boat, IP6 and itunes server options.. nice. The share port works ok but isnt the most user friendly to get funtioning. D-links cloud managment is an excellent idea and step in the right directoin but still has a few bugs to work out. Would recommend so far as its an excellent product once properly configured to tailor your needs. Put away my previous 7 year old d-link router as a backup just incase ^^
Pros: Great value, many of the features common to professional grade routers (DNS filter, etc). Fast wireless, fast wired.
Cons: DNS filtering sometimes doesn't work right, seems like my DIR-655 was better at handling a large number of wireless devices than this one (12+). Not enough MAC addresses available for serious MAC filtering on your network.
Overall Review: Despite some of the minor glitches that I encountered, I am still happy with this router and would recommend it for someone who is looking for more than just basic features.
Pros: Fast gigabit wired transfers, Solid performance, I don't have the reboot issues others described. Wireless AC for when more devices are available.
Cons: My cordless phone is 5ghz which interferes with the 5ghz wireless on the AP causes random disconnects. Probably the same issue others complained of but don't realize why. I just disabled the 5ghz and use 2.4 ghz speed is same and it seems to give me better range anyway.
Overall Review: I recommend to set up the router just enough with a wired connection to perform the firmware update. There's not much you can buy these days that you don't have to do an update to for it to work right. I have this router set up behind another router from at&t and it auto configured itself behind that router itself and I had internet access immediately, my old router it took quite a bit of manual configuration to get working. Port forwarding works great, I have several apps forwarding ports through both routers to my internal network and I have no issues. Not sure what others could be complaining of in regards to this. All in all this router has been great from day 1 for me. When the day comes that I need to use the 5ghz band for wireless AC when more devices support it I will have to upgrade my cordless phone. Other than that this router is flawless and I can't fault d-link for the interference with my phone. I would recommend this router.
Pros: Easy to open packaging. First 8 set-up steps were straight forward.
Cons: Didn't properly configure. The mydlink.com site would not recognize my device. Called customer service and then the D-link nighmare began. Waited for over an hour and a half (109 minutes), listening to the same message loop. First customer support person said he couldn't help and transferred me. After another hour wait I decided to abandon. This is the reason people hate these companies. I'd suggest that you buy something else with better quality and support. What a major let down!
Overall Review: Save yourself a nighmare tech event and just buy something else that's better.
Pros: Fairly easy setup
Cons: Dead in a year
Overall Review: NO more Dlink for me. Three Piece of u know what routers in 18 months time. Started dropping wireless which had no range to begin with despite the claims. Now it drops wired connections as well. Finally will not connect to anything. Why can't anybody make a good router anymore? I'm a gamer so I'm a little picky when it comes to routers but DLink takes the cake for being a Piece of u know what router manufacturer or lack of manufacturer. Who knows who builds these things anymore. Unreliable junk is my experience with Dlink.
Pros: It works once I got done setting everything up and reconnecting all my devices I did notice a improvement on some of my wireless stuff as well as the range. I also upgraded the firmware to the latest version before configure the router. I am upgrading from a linksys e3000 that started giving me odd problems
Cons: None yet will update if anything happens
Overall Review: I have had no problems with the router yet. I have 2 ipads 1 iphone a xbox 360 a ps3 3 computers 1 laptop and 1 server set to static ip everything shows up under status lan computers including my server(windows 2008 r2) that has a static IP and it shows the static ip that I set it to
Pros: Easy to set up. Used QRS on my iPhone to initially set it up. Then used the onboard UI to make final adjustments and turn on other features. Good remote access options for management and storage. WiFI is great so far in a 2200sq ft house. Hope to eventually get the DWA-182 adapter so I can use AC wifi connection speeds. Has USB 3.0 connector and power ON/OFF switch. Newer QoS UI and engine for higher ISP Uplink support. Gaming is great on XBL.
Cons: No LED indicators for WiFi or LAN activity, only power and router internet connection LED. No external antenna support.
Overall Review: People should go to DLinks forum for additional help, review and problem solving with any of there model routers and devices. Good experienced help and information there. Many other problems dealing with ISP services, HW and external environmental conditions can effect how routers and Wifi work. Ask questions and get help in the forums.
