Turn your regular phone into a Skype phone with D-Link's USB Phone adapter. This handy unit plugs into your PC's USB port and your regular phone jack allowing you to use your phone for both Skype and regular landline calls.

The remote calling features let you save money in two ways. If you are away from the network and need to make a long distance or international call, all you have to do is call your computer and have it make a low-cost SkypeOut call. If you are traveling abroad and need to make a local call, just make a Skype to Skype call and have the unit use your regular phone line to make the call. Either way you save money.

Junk

Pros: Great concept. Get the "landline experience" with a cheap skype subscription. The device itself real cheap too.

Cons: Total nightmare to get working. Getting the programs, drivers, and firmware working together is harder than any other device I've seen and apparently will never work with anything newer than XP.
Once everything is set up right it only actually works a fraction of the time. Unreliable and random especailly for incoming calls.

And it still needs your computer. Might have been more viable as a stand alone device..

Overall Review: You could probably build a superior alternative with a raspberry pi

It's ok

Pros: Allows you to use Skype on a regular home phone.

Cons: It ONLY works on windows xp and vista 32 bit, not 64 bit.

Overall Review: Laziness not to write some 64 bit drivers. I have 4 pc's, 3 have 64 bit Vista, one has XP, so I have to use this particular pc that is not in the location I intended to use this.

Works for me

Pros: When you finally get it loaded, its great!

Cons: Sometimes there is an echo, but I think it is a Skype thing because my friend gets it too and she doesn't have the D Link interface, only a Skype phone.

Overall Review: I tried the 1.1 software from D link in a temp file for my windows sp 2. It worked, I went to bed, got up, didn't work anymore. Removed it, downloaded the Robotics USR 9620. It has been working awesome all day. Very cool, once it is set up

Perfect for me

Pros: Works, sound quality is as good as anything, as long as the VOIP service is up to it, works on my old wall & desk analog phones in addition to digital & wireless. Simple USB connection, simple RJ11 connection. An integral part of changing from expensive landline to very cheap landline.

Cons: Like a lot of USB devices, setup can be a little confusing. This isn't for everyone yet. And remember, VOIP services don't have 911. In Boise, I haven't found a workaround for that.

Overall Review: When learning & playing with this to make sure I could use it to say goodbye to Qwest, I tried it on 4 different computers, all running XP and Skype. If I followed directions exactly, they all worked, but the 550mhz system with USB 1.1 had some sound garble, and wouldn't run the ringers on the analog phones. Always requires reboot if USB gets disconnected, but reboot always works. Slowest internet I tried it on was 1.5 mbps.

It's worth it

Pros: It is cheap and when it works it is awesome.

Cons: Finding the right drivers was kind of annoying. I had to download the drivers for vista from the website. I have to periodically go into skype and set it to use this device. I have had calls where I can hear them through the speakers but not through the phone. These things all have to do with Skype, but it has to do with the item too.

Overall Review: It is worth it, if you aren't really dependent on your home phone. We have prepaid cell phones for emergencies and when we need a reliable connection. The skype connection is generally fine, but I would say 20% of the time there is a delay, or excessive noise, or a call drops. It is annoying, but it is better than paying 35 a month for vonage. We pay about 5 bucks a month for this service, it is awesome. And I couldn't do it without this device.

It Works!!!

Pros: 1. Easy setup. 2. Good documentation. 3. USB powered. and....it works!

It's light weight and small, thus taking up very little room in my crowded computer space.

Cons: None at this time.

Overall Review: Wish I had bought it long ago!

Works after fussing with it

Pros: It's Unlimited phone service, if you pay for Skype's annual fee, like 30 bucks a year, I've not tried magic jack so I can't compare. Skype sound quality is quite usable even on dsl internet.

Cons: Installation can be a nightmare, skip the included installation guide and go straight to the dlink support page, and download the upgraded "driver" DO NOT PLUG IN THE ADAPTER PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE.
You have to keep the PC on all the time.
911 won't work
You need to have a skype account with skype out subscription.

Overall Review: If everyone has cell phones in the house I recommend setting this up to use your existing phones, although dialing is a little weird it requires a prefix of "## 00" (country code) (area code) (phone-number) then "*" to dial, example the White House would be ## 00 1 202 456 1414*
You can't fax through the skype line, faxes just fail, besides fax machines don't handle the weird dialing either.
You can save money with this over $40 per month the phone company charges, yeah the phone company will say "it's only $25" but after the taxes and fees you are usually near the $40 mark vs skype at $2.50 a month.
