Right tool for the job

COOLMAX 15436 Aluminum 3.5" IDE / SATA USB & 1394 & SATA External Enclosure
COOLMAX 15436 Aluminum 3.5" IDE / SATA USB & 1394 & SATA External Enclosure

Pros: Plug a SATA or IDE Drive into an eSATA, USB or Firewire/1394 port. hefty power adapter and USB-Firewire-eSATA cables included. Even comes with a screwdriver! Cover removes without tools.

Cons: No Fan - not the best for an always on application.

Overall Review: What its great for: one case that lets you plug any 3.5" IDE or SATA drive into any external port. 60 seconds to unpack the box. 60 seconds to connect drive and reassemble. I purchased this for a portable hard drive setup and drive recovery tool here in our IT department. For these applications it works great. What its not the best for: Always on. If you are want a drive on 24/7 or even just 9-5, this would not be the best one for you as the case doesn't have a fan. Now don't get me wrong, the aluminum enclosure does a decent job of dissipating heat, just not as well as a fan would. For a rugged, quick assembly, portable enclosure that works with most drives and computers (Windows and Mac) I think its excellent. And it looks at home with my ThinkPad.

Good for Business

Acer 22" Active Matrix, TFT LCD WSXGA LCD Monitor with HDCP support 5 ms D-Sub, DVI-D AL2216Wbd
Acer 22" Active Matrix, TFT LCD WSXGA LCD Monitor with HDCP support 5 ms D-Sub, DVI-D AL2216Wbd

Pros: Inexpensive for a 22" monitor with a 3 year warranty. DVI and VGA connectors. No thought required setup.

Cons: If used with two PCs, switching between inputs is too difficult: 8 button presses to change between the two, while a Viewsonic or NEC will do it with 1. Color not as good as Viewsonics and other higher end displays.

Overall Review: I use these for work, not play. The native 1680x1050 resolution on a 22" is great and practical for any office that does real work on PC. Accounting and Medical Records tasks need a large display and this is an economical choice for those tasks. I am using two of these in my IT office. Each is in a dual monitor setup with a 17" Viewsonic VA712b or NEC 72VX next to it. The Viewsonic has better color and I would prefer it for something related for graphics, but for standard office work with lots of spreadsheets and multiple apps running at one time, this is a strong value. And as always, NewEgg Rocks!

Sound! Where's the Sound!?!?

Comments: Wow! I got this to replace the unit in my Toshiba Satellite 1750 Laptop that was had achived a very high-pitched whine. I was frankly buying it for capacity (4x the old drive). But this thing is the quietest 2.5" I haven't heard! Quieter than most 3.5" drives. I'd stongly recommend this for any application where noise might be a factor.
