LITE-ON USB Black 8X External Top Load DVD/CD Burner Model eTAU208-96 LightScribe Support
LITE-ON USB Black 8X External Top Load DVD/CD Burner Model eTAU208-96 LightScribe Support

Pros: Looks fantastic, works flawlessly, relatively quiet, love the top-load

Cons: Ridiculously short USB wire included

Overall Review: I had my doubts about this unit, but so far it's the best optical drive I've ever owned out of countless dozens since 1995. So far it runs fast, reads everything flawlessly, and writes everything without errors. Even dual layer discs! I have not tried the Lightscribe feature. Discs that I write don't typically survive long enough to justify bothering to write labels for them. I kinda understand why the included USB wire is so incredibly short. It's supposed to fit in the groove under the drive, to make the whole thing more portable and self-contained. But the fact remains that it's a completely useless wire for desktop use. I have the drive sitting less than a foot from the USB plug at the back of the mid-tower, but I still had to add an extension to the cable to allow it to reach. It's REALLY short. I'm deducting an egg for the short wire. I would've preferred a second USB wire of proper length instead of the worthless Nero CD.

Great Case, Bad Service

RAIDMAX SMILODON Extreme Black ATX-612WEBP 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case With 500W Power Supply
RAIDMAX SMILODON Extreme Black ATX-612WEBP 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case With 500W Power Supply

Pros: This case has been awesome, it has tons of room and great expandability. It looks great, especially since green is my favorite color. There are far too few cases with green lighting available. I even managed to fit my massive Scythe fanless heat-sink in there without issues. I'm running the entire thing completely fanless and with an SSD, so it's as quiet as it's ever going to get.

Cons: Never received my $30 rebate. I went to the trouble of following the directions exactly, spent my money mailing it out via registered mail and made sure everything was done long before the deadline, yet I still have nothing to show for it. I greatly resent being ripped off. No correspondence, no replies to my inquiries, nothing. That's a heck of a lot of trouble to go through for a lousy $30. I will never again buy something based on a supposed mail-in rebate.

Overall Review: If you're trying to decide between different products, do NOT use the value of a mail-in rebate as a determining factor. I'm sick and tired of these offers that only serve to rip off the consumer.

Good Value

XFX Black Edition P1-750B-CAG9 750 W ATX12V v2.2 / ESP12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
XFX Black Edition P1-750B-CAG9 750 W ATX12V v2.2 / ESP12V v2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Looks good, lots of spare modular cables, good cable lengths, great price for 80plus Silver, gorgeous packaging

Cons: One of the SATA power cables was bad, way too many non-modular cables, fan is noisier than expected and can barely be seen

Overall Review: I bought this power supply to replace my aging Antec NEO HE550. The things that drew me to this XFX power supply were the excellent price, bright green fan, modular cabling, and 80+ Silver rating. I figured the 135mm green fan would be quieter and prettier than the 80mm fan in my Antec. Turns out I was wrong on all counts. Not only are the ball bearings noisier, but I can't even see the green fan in my ATX case. I also assumed the fan was lit, but it is not. That's my own mistake. I don't understand why so many of the cables aren't modular. I can see why the MB and CPU power cables are permanently attached, that makes sense. But why are there 2 permanently attached PCIe cables?!? I don't need either one of them, so they just clutter up everything. One of the SATA power cables turned out to be bad, and it took a lot of diagnosing to figure out that was the problem. I'm mostly happy with this power supply, although I'm still considering switching back to my old one.

Best Mouse I've Ever Owned

RAZER Mamba Black 7 Buttons USB Laser Gaming Mouse - Dual Mode Wired/Wireless Functionality
RAZER Mamba Black 7 Buttons USB Laser Gaming Mouse - Dual Mode Wired/Wireless Functionality

Pros: Incredible tracking. I usually use it wired, because I haven't had a chance to update the firmware yet. I can't tell a difference in tracking between wired and wireless mode. Extremely responsive buttons. It took me a while to get used to it, kept clicking things by accident, but now I'm very comfortable with it and it's improved my productivity. Very comfortable shape, size and weight. Fits my hand perfectly. The cord never gets in the way when used in wired mode.

Cons: First one went bad after 3 months. The laser stopped working altogether. Razer replaced it quickly with a brand new one. Mouse wheel is noisy, especially scrolling downwards. Sounds like a cacophony of crickets at night. Works fine, though. My replacement mouse is less noisy than my original one. Impossible to update the firmware in Linux. So I've been stuck with the original firmware since I got it. My replacement mouse was not updated to the latest firmware by Razer. I do not have access to a Windows computer to update the firmware. Battery life in wireless mode sucks. I can't even go a whole work day without plugging it in. I understand this is fixed with later firmware updates, but I am unable to update the firmware so that's useless for me. Blue LED looks cool, but since I have green LEDs all over my system (keyboard, case, etc), it looks out of place. I keep hoping Razer will come out with a green version of this mouse, but so far no luck.

Overall Review: I am not a gamer. I did not buy this mouse to play games. I bought this mouse for its configurability and its incredible tracking quality, mostly for use with graphics editing applications. I can remap all the main buttons to whatever I want, and the DPI buttons remain functional even in Linux. The DPI setting is saved consistently, so I don't have to reset it every time I start the computer. So far this mouse has exceeded all expectations, I just wish I could update its firmware :(

Patriot LX Series 8GB Class 10 Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Card Model PSF8GSDHC10
Patriot LX Series 8GB Class 10 Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Card Model PSF8GSDHC10

Pros: Very fast

Cons: Failing progressively, some pictures taken with my camera just don't show up on the card, no longer able to write multiple files sequentially

Overall Review: This thing started falling apart on me after just over a month. I expected more, based on the reviews here. Considering the cost of these things, it's not worth going through the trouble and aggravation of getting it replaced. I'll just buy another one from another brand.

Excellent for Its Intended Use

Kodak Zx1 Black 1/4.5" 1.6 MP CMOS 2.0" LCD 128 Internal Memory HD Pocket Video Camera
Kodak Zx1 Black 1/4.5" 1.6 MP CMOS 2.0" LCD 128 Internal Memory HD Pocket Video Camera

Pros: Super portable, great image quality, ready to record in seconds, HDMI output, lots of storage options with SDHC card slot, lasts a long time on 2 AA batteries, includes batteries and charger, includes wrist strap and carrying pouch, quick adjustment to ambient light level, decent weather-sealing, alternate battery cover with different design

Cons: Zoom is digital-only and only in sharp increments, pressing buttons during recording causes loud "clicking" noises in the recording (especially zooming), microphone is more likely to record the cameraman than the subject being recorded, switches from 60 fps to 30 fps automatically below a certain ambient light level

Overall Review: I love this camera. I wasn't expecting a high end high-def camera for recording weddings or anniversaries, and neither should anyone else. But what I did get was a very convenient way to record videos on a whim without worrying about damaging my investment. I can just whip this out, record something, and throw it back in my pocket. I can tape it to my bicycle while riding and record my rides. I can put it in my breast pocket and record my activities for tutorials and stuff. And I actually DID use it to record my wedding, so there!!! This camera records in .mov format, which is perfect since that's widely supported under Windows, MacOS X and Linux. I can do whatever I want with the resulting .mov files. If you need a quick and easy camera to record candid moments on a whim, this is the ideal product.
