Best price-performance at the moment
Pros: Upgraded from a 4870 512 mb vram and saw a 16-23 fps increase in gaming at 1920x1200. Solidly built with much attention to detail and the power inputs are on the side opposite the bus, so there is no wasted space. On-board 7.1 audio also is a great feature for frequent travelers.
Cons: I can see the architecture of the card making it a little difficult to clean thoroughly, but I'll have to wait and see on that.
Overall Review: running with core i7 940, 6gb 10666, windows 7 64 bit
Okay monitor with issues
Pros: A cheap no-frills 2160 display.
Cons: Sometimes the displayport and hdmi inputs stop being recognized, apparently this is an issue with yamakasi products in general. Since windows 10 still recognizes that it is connected this causes problems. Sometimes a power cycle "fixes" it and sometimes I have to reboot, still trying to decide whether I should return the display.
Overall Review: It is nice to have the extra real estate for productivity, but I wouldn't recommend this particular monitor for gaming.
Thunderbolt 3 Port Died After Less Than Six Months of Use
Pros: - Fast and attractive display - Full and high quality mechanical keyboard - Extra M.2 slot
Cons: - After about five months the Thunderbolt 3 port stopped working. It no longer powers devices or will respond to any input such as external drives or game controllers. The Thunderbolt control panel "sees" the port and port is recognized in the bios. I am currently contacting support, I'll update after dealing with them. - The pre-installed Azure AI causes display issues. When the application adjusts CPU settings in order to optimize something, the screen goes black for a couple seconds. Azure changes the laptop from performance mode to battery saver seemingly randomly. I highly recommend uninstalling it. - The fans are extremely loud when the system is under load, though that is to be expected from a gaming laptop. - Poor quality speakers. They produce a "tinny" sound quality.
Overall Review: I'd like to be able to recommend this laptop but I cannot at this time due to the bloatware and the apparent Thunderbolt 3 issue. I advise looking at the competition and avoiding this build.
DOA
Pros: Seemed to have everything I wanted at a decent price.
Cons: Put together the machine with this new PSU and found that everything lost power after about an hour of usage, faster when the machine is doing more things. I suspect that it isn't actually outputting what it is rated at. It is outside of the newegg return so I'll have to see how it goes with the manufacturer's warranty.
Washed out colors and frequent signal loss
Pros: 144 Hz looks wonderful in games
Cons: When tabbing out or exiting a full screen game the monitor loses signal. Cycling power does nothing, the only way to regain the signal is to restart my OS (windows 10) - I have to keep a second monitor plugged in so that I can have a fallback display just in case I forget that this happens and I tab out of a game. As much as I like the 144 Hz and the price, I'm thinking that I will return the monitor. Acer has been non-responsive to my emails and people online who experience this either learn to live with it or get a refund. Of all the pc issues there are to troubleshoot, dealing with this monitor is the one that I am least willing to tolerate as I believe they should be plug and play.
Overall Review: The colors are terrible so you need to fix them through software and the monitor buttons. When you power cycle after losing signal all your settings get wiped.
Beware online gamers
Pros: Everything that you would expect from a fourth gen board. The bios has some nice secondary features
Cons: After a month of troubleshooting I found the network interface and its drivers to be the cause of all my problems - bsods, random network disconnects, high latency. If I had only googled the network interface I would have found the pages of forum complaints about the e2205 that are being ignored by the company.
Overall Review: The board is great save for the network interface. If you absolutely have to get it for whatever reason and you play games online, make sure you get a separate nic or you're going to be in for a world of sorrow.
