Badly underrated

AMD FX-8150 - FX-Series Zambezi 8-Core 3.6 GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Desktop Processor - FD8150FRGUBOX
AMD FX-8150 - FX-Series Zambezi 8-Core 3.6 GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Desktop Processor - FD8150FRGUBOX

Pros: 8 cores, lots of cache, fast

Cons: You will get less than ideal performance if the OS doesn't know how to schedule threads to the cores properly. The 2 cores in a Bulldozer module share some resources. If you need fast single thread support, you need to have that thread alone on a module. Intel processors have this same issue with Hyperthreading (Hyperthreading actually takes MORE of a performance hit if threads are not scheduled properly)...the only difference is, Windows 7 understands Hyperthreading out of the box, where it doesn't understand Bulldozer (Windows 8 will). Make SURE you install the two Windows 7 Bulldozer hotfixes. I waited to get this CPU until the hotfixes were released. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2646060 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2645594 Make sure to install both of these.

Overall Review: People are unfairly judging this chip by going by what biased review sites are saying. Biased review sites using unreliable benchmark utilities rather than real-world performance. I did not get this from Newegg, I was going to but a local retailer had an incredible sale on them and I didn't want to wait for shipping. This thing has absolutely laughed at everything I've ever run on it, games run on highest settings easily, and the hottest it has ever gotten for me at 100% load (Prime95 for several hours) is 41C. Mine is paired with a Cooler Master Hyper 212+.

Great for a Linux server

Intel E1G42ET Dual Port Server Adapter 10/100/1000Mbps PCI-Express 2 x RJ45
Intel E1G42ET Dual Port Server Adapter 10/100/1000Mbps PCI-Express 2 x RJ45

Overall Review: I got this for a Linux server, so I could put my access points on a different physical network than the wired computers (for bandwidth reasons). It works great under Linux (uses igb driver).

Working well so far

ASRock Z170 Pro4 LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock Z170 Pro4 LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Running this with an i7-6700k and 16GB of DDR4-3200. Everything is stable with my RAM running at 2400. I assume speeds will be improved later with updates. POST fail with a loaded XMP profile will just unload the profile rather than having to clear the CMOS manually, which is helpful.

Cons: Changing RAM speeds is somewhat inconvenient. If you set a speed that causes a POST fail, then you have to open the thing up and use the CMOS clear jumper. I really don't recommend attempting DDR4 speeds above 2400, as anything above this is extremely unstable at the moment.

Overall Review: The Z170 chipset does not support USB 3.1. The ONLY way to get USB 3.1 on a Z170 is to have an external USB 3.1 controller (which will typically only provide 2 or 4 ports). This is not a motherboard limitation, this is a limitation of the Intel Z170.

Works great

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16D-16GVK
G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16D-16GVK

Pros: This RAM is very stable. I have not yet been able to get it up to 3200 (XMP profile just results in POST fail), but this is not due to the RAM but rather my motherboard (Asrock Z170 Pro4). Asrock has already done a couple UEFI updates to improve memory compatibility but they have a ways to go. Right now I'm running this RAM at 2400. I'm increasing it one notch at a time to see what is stable. Have not been able to reach 3000 or 3200 yet but I hope to reach 2800 and I'll keep trying 3200 when there are BIOS updates.

Cons: Not all motherboards can support 3200. DDR4 is still very new, and the motherboards are still very new. Support will get there. If you aren't willing to spend more for memory that is more future proof, it might be better to get 2133 or 2400 speed.

Overall Review: This RAM is definitely future proof. Eventually it will get to where most (if not all) motherboards work at 3200 (or higher). So this RAM is definitely future proof.

Current best single GPU gaming card

EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 06G-P4-4995-KR 6GB SC+ GAMING w/ACX 2.0+, Whisper Silent Cooling w/ Free Installed Backplate Graphics Card
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 06G-P4-4995-KR 6GB SC+ GAMING w/ACX 2.0+, Whisper Silent Cooling w/ Free Installed Backplate Graphics Card

Pros: Second most powerful single-GPU video card in existence at the time of this review. Runs very cool, will run anything you can throw at it without breaking a sweat. 1440p is no problem. 2160p you will probably still want a second GPU at this point. The only single-GPU card that is better is the Titan X, and it's only JUST BARELY better at a much higher price.

Cons: No cons except the price. But enthusiast level video cards always come at a high price. This is actually cheaper than the card that was in its place last gen (the 780ti).

Overall Review: The 980ti is basically the same GPU as the Titan X, with one render core blocked off, and half the VRAM (Titan X has 12GB). In real world performance in games, the 980ti is VERY close to the Titan X, it's very rare for the Titan X to be more than 5fps ahead. The extra VRAM makes no difference for current games, and the extra render core makes very little difference.

Great keyboard

Logitech G710 Plus Mechanical USB Gaming Keyboard
Logitech G710 Plus Mechanical USB Gaming Keyboard

Pros: This is a great keyboard. I have not had any of the issues that others have reported. I've been using it for frequent gaming for nearly a month, and all the LED's still work fine. I should note that I turned the brightness on them all the way down, because the bright setting is way too bright for my taste.

Cons: None

Overall Review: People complaining that the keyboard isn't "whisper quiet" are just not familiar with mechanical keyboards. This is actually *very* quiet by mechanical keyboard standards. People need to realize that it is a mechanical keyboard, and it is going to act and sound like one. If you don't like the sound and feel of it, then a mechanical keyboard is not for you. Do some research and test out mechanical keyboards before you buy one, to make sure it is what you want first. They aren't for everyone.
