Best P67 Board
Pros: I have been using Asus motherboards for years (My last non Asus board was the Tyan S1836 Server board) As with Asus everything is top notch even the packaging is great with these boards! Opening up the box to this motherboard is even worthwhile everything is well documented and they include lots of extras. This board is very stable with the i7-2600 even at 5.2 ghz speeds (Hope you have good cooling) And as someone else said you can run SLI in 16x16x by enabling the NF200 chip buy placing your cards in slot 2 and 4 and using the first pcix slot for something else (Not confirmed on my end due to no stock on the Evga hydro coppers but you can find reviews where they tell you how to do so) Although from what I have read its actually better to run them in 8x8x as the latency of the NF200 does not increase performance. Overall I would say this board is the best Sandy Bridge bard to Date. Bonus using my Android phone to play with the overclock setting via bluetooth!
Cons: Due to the Intel Chipset recall these boards and other Rev3 P67 boards are hard to come by driving the price up! Price see above ^ Finding this board in stock is a real challenge I hope people who had RMA's got there boards before anyone else did. I guess there needs to be some more clarification on the pcix slots as alot of people are confused on the 8x8x and 16x16x issue. Going by Asus's documentation it looks like they chose the 8x8x route but they should explain why even a notation in the book and on site would be good. Instead I had to read reviews and benchmark sites to decide whether I should run 8x8x or go the 16x16x route (Which also needs to be documented as no where does it say you can activate the NF200 chip to run SLI in 16x16x even if it is not worth it) Other then that this is a great board!
Overall Review: I got lucky getting this board I had just bought my PS and was looking at my wish list when I got a email notification that it was in stock. Taking a chance I placed a order and dumped my other Items in cart and checked out. After my completed payment I noticed the out of stock and SOLD OUT listed. Seems others had checked out and got a email canceling there order but I got a tracking number within the hour (Fast packaging Newegg! Wonder if they even had to take them off the truck!) So I guess some lucky people including myself got these the other day I just hope I did not take someones RMA! I'm confused on memory with the Sandy Bridge Architecture and this board not sure going with any clock speeds above 2133 is useful even for overclocking (or if you even can go above that speed) as Gskill sells a 2133 8gb kit as well as a 2200 kit If your going to spend this much on a motherboard I would have to say this board is the best choice as of right now.
Great until it went out CS is the worst!!
Pros: Great boot up times and nice space for my wifes netbook. Seems to be running great in my Dell XPS l702x (for the moment)
Cons: Hard drive failed after six months of use for no reason what so ever. Computer has had light use and is a brand new asus netbook. (Wife barley uses it sits usualy turned off and is turned on mabye 2 hours a day if that) Tried to repair the hard drive in my XPS and then my Desktop. Hard drive is only being detected as a 100mb. Called Seagate who told me to use there software Seatools to fix the drive which failed. Drive still shows up as 100mb and seatools could not run dianostics on it as it would shut down and be gone from the drive list in windows. Hard drive was under warenty but Seagate gave me the run around on the drive and refused to replace it. I dealt with email support and phone support and I was at a loss. I have 2 of these in my Dell XPS l702x that I will be replacing with a SSD (NOT SEAGATE) along with replacing the 2nd drive with a manafacture that will honor there warenty allong with treating there customers with respect!
Overall Review: If seagate would honor there warenty that was on this drive I would not of had a problem I understand drives fail sometimes but to be given the run around and having CS blame the computer and then the OS (Windows 7 64 / Ubuntu ) And to be told that they cannot cover the warenty even though there site shows that it is covered! I would stay away from any company that cannot take care of one of there customers like this. I build computers / servers and setup networks / security for a living and on any of my clients I will be only replacing hard drives with WD or Hitachi or any other brand that is not affiliated with Seagate! Allong with only recomending those companines with my clients that I consultant. If Seagate wishs to follow up on this please feel free to post here and make it public I would love to see a follow up !
