Pros: Extremely quiet drive. Barely warm after a full three hours of formatting. Seems fast enough for a storage drive.
Cons: None yet- and don't expect any
Overall Review: Poorly packaged- Placed on top of the peanuts, rather than in the center- bubble wrap was the only protection, and only wrapped around once. Luckily, drive seems to have survived.
Not so Good
Pros: I have used Trend-Micro since way back when. It used to be called PC-Cillin, and the icon was a medicinal capsule. It was great back then. Fully customizable, no hits on performance, etc. As time went on, and new versions came out, it became less customizable, and more of a drag on the system
Cons: When they went to Internet Security 2009, it wasn't too bad, but not as good as previous versions. Internet Security 2010 was worse, far less customizable, and took a greater toll on resources. Titanium is the worst- least customizable, hard on the system, slow to load, and does not get along with all other third party software. I also have- but stopped using Titanium Max- just horrible.
Overall Review: If they would just go back to the drawing board, and incorporate all the good stuff of the older versions, and stop trying to be everything to everybody- like some of their larger competitors, they would have a great product, a great niche in the market, and a loyal following. I liked them because of customization, no performance hits, and they played nice with other software. All gone. Fortunately, you can use the Titanium serials on the older versions, but otherwise I could not recommend it.
Pros: Bought two of these. Could not be happier. They fit into my NZXT 5.25" bay absolutely perfectly. Mounting the drives via two screws into the adapter was as easy as pie. I have mobo's with four sata data connections, but often cannot fit four drives in the 3.5" bays, what with card readers, etc. This is, without a doubt, the most perfect solution that I could ask for. Took less than five minutes from start to finish for both drives, and the results are nothing less than fantastic. Just waiting for these to go on sale with promo codes, and I will stock up to the max allowed under the promotion. I realize others have had problems fitting these into the bays, but mine was a superb fit, with the drives easily and securely mounted into the adapter. Please, Newegg, please put these into a future promotion and I will buy the max allowed. Promise!!
Cons: There are no cons whatsoever, other than not having a price break on them. Wish that it happens.
Overall Review: I have six running computers in my household, all can use extra mounting of hard drives in those computers, but lack sufficient 3.5" drive bays. Not any more!! Can't wait for a sale, so I can add drives to each of my computers. This is my first icy dock "buy" and I have nothing but good to say about them. Sorry for those folks who can't get a proper fit for their computers. Mine was perfect to a "T".
Pros: Much easier to use than the Rosewill docking stations I bought. You really need to press down on the drive to make the Rosewill work. These allow the dirves to be inserted much more easily, and I have not yet had a problem of any kind with sending and receiving info from the docking station. Even 2.0 speeds are faster than the Rosewill. This thing reads my 3TB drives with ease.
Cons: Surprised there is no mechanism for ejecting the drive, as most other docking stations have. You just pull out the drive. Does not seem to harm the drive, but just found it a bit unusual.
Overall Review: I really, really like this drive, No connection problems as with my Rosewill docking stations. I bought two of these about a month ago, and just now purchased two additional. I do IT work from home and have six computers running- four with Win7 and two with XP. This baby works with everything.
update to poor customer service
Pros: Haven't been able to use drive yet- see other thoughts. Customer service much improved
Cons: Drive does not show full capacity- tried Samsung's DM_Creator and HD capacity restore- both show hardware problems
Overall Review: My earlier review indicated poor customer service- but the fault was mine, not Samsung's. We have resolved the problem and am sending HDD back for RMA. My apologies to Samsung and their customer service dept
terrible customer service
Pros: None- Drive formatted after three hour long format, and then was put away for later use- but not usable at this time, three months later. Cannot get full capacity of drive, even with Samsung's HDD tools.
Cons: Customer Service is awful. They give you scripted replies, and their website for RMA request is lousy. Can't tell you how drive performs cause can't put data on it.
Overall Review: Capacity is only shown as 7 GB, rather than 1 TB- ran their HDD tools- used Samsung's own DM_Creator to boot into DOS and check disk. Program reports there is a hardware problem with the disk and cannot format it. RMA request resulted in code 106- non-official product- and they won't honor warranty. Mfr date on HDD is 3/2009- less than a year. Also tried HDD capacity restore, with same result. No useful drive+ no warranty honored by Samsung = paperweight
