Most Favorable Review

From a fat PC build, To a Gaming laptop.

ROG Zephyrus S GX531GX-XB77 15.6" Gaming Laptop - GeForce RTX 2080, Intel Core i7-9750H, 16 GB DDR4, 1 TB SSD, Windows 10 Pro
ROG Zephyrus S GX531GX-XB77 15.6" Gaming Laptop - GeForce RTX 2080, Intel Core i7-9750H, 16 GB DDR4, 1 TB SSD, Windows 10 Pro

Pros: -The power of a full PC build compacted into a laptop -Easy to set up - Can run any game on max settings -144HZ 3ms Display - Light weight -Portable VR - Lightning USB Type-C port (Great for writing games faster on Steam to an external)

Cons: -Only supports HDMI connection. If you want to throw this onto an ultrawide or something that requires a Display Port (100 HZ+ on some older monitors), you will need to buy a Type-C to Display Port adapter to display a refresh rate above 60... -Basically, if you want to connect this to ANYTHING, you have to make sure you have the right adapters to allow it to function properly.

Overall Review: Ok, so I bought this about 3 months ago now. I bought this because I turned my gaming rig into a mining rig to help stay in the green during the pandemic. I still wanted to game so I looked up gaming laptops & this is the one that caught my eye. This thing has a 2080 & I7 9750H with 16 GB of ram. Its literally just as powerful as my old 1080 ti gaming setup... Aesthetically, the laptop is dark, smooth, thin, & clean. The keyboard & track pad are both RGB. RGB track pad you ask? Its a track pad that can turn into a number pad with the press of a button. It also has on the fly RGB control for the keyboard. I'm not to sure if you can change the number pad color or not at the moment. Its default is red, so I just leave my keyboard red to match. The cherry on top, like most ASUS monitors, It has the glowing ROG symbol on the back, also in red. Once I got my hands on this bad boy, I immediately went into the Armoruy Crate & put her in turbo mode. This mode is essential if you plan on gaming on this 24/7. This mode essentially overclocks the laptop & activates a secondary jet engine (cooling fan lol), only when plugged in. When I enabled that, I tried to "replace" my PC by connecting it to my ultrawide monitor. And there was my first problem... This laptop only has one "Universal" HDMI port on the back of it. My ultrawide is one of the older ASUS ROG ultrawides that need a Display Port to display 100hz to it. I looked around online & found a USB Type-C to Display Port adapter but that was only after I found out that's what I needed to hook up my Oculus Rift S to this thing... Once I made sure my VR Headset could connect, I plugged it into my monitor & was able to enable 100hz in my windows settings & overclock my ultrawide in the onboard monitor settings. Once I got my main monitor working, I decided to utilize the HDMI In the back to my 3rd monitor. Once I did that, it felt like I was just playing on my old gaming setup, with an extra monitor under my Ultrawide & my mining rig on my 2nd monitor now. After I got all my monitors setup & running smooth, I hooked up my Logitech G910 because trying to hit crouch (CTRL) on this keyboard is a little awkward especially when your holding Shift (Ape hands BTW...) I also plugged in my G502 into the Lightning USB port for faster response times. I used a Sennheiser GSP 500 headset on the jack under the left 2 USB ports but my wire stopped working, so for now I am using one of my old Logitech USB Headsets. My only other current gripe with this laptop is no 4th USB port... And that's only because I like plugging in my controller sometimes, & now that I only have a USB headset, I have to chose between them. Just a heads up if 1 TB of Internal storage isn't enough, you can run either a USB External SSD or a Type-C External SSD. I run a 1 TB GLYPH External SSD through the lighting Type-C port. If you want A LOT of storage for this laptop, I just recommend a 2 TB external for games & such. But if you wanna go all out, get a 16 GB Seagate expansion tower for home & a smaller portable 1~2 TB SSD for on the go. This laptop has 2 Type C ports so... Overall, If you want to game at 100+ FPS on max settings, but don't wanna build an entire rig, this is the laptop for you. COD MW on max settings with Ray Tracing enabled runs at a smooth 100~120 FPS on the laptop monitor alone, & an even 100 on my 3440x1440 Ultrawide with the resolution cranked to 125% (Ray Tracing included.) I am also able to stream to Discord for friends @60 FPS no issues (But, admittedly, I had to turn down some graphics to stay above 100 FPS on my end), so if you wanna stream, you should be able to. My Final Verdict: Well worth it for a portable 2080 powered gaming laptop that just needs an outlet for max power output. JUST REMEMBER... If you want to run VR on this laptop, go for the Rift S & order a USB Type-C to Display Port adapter. The Rift S is able to draw power from your computer for better graphic options such as anti-aliasing, & allows longer VR sessions compared to the Rift Quest. Once you have that Type-C adapter, you can connect this bad boy to almost any high refresh rate monitor in between VR sessions.
