Great Media at a good price
Pros: The media type code for these discs is UMEDISC-DL1-64, which is the same media type code that has shown up on the Internet as being sold as a Verbatim brand disc, just not part of their AZO product. The discs will only write at 2.4X or 4X in my HP DVD-RAM GH82N drive, but actually wrote at an AVERAGE of 8.1X on my ASUS DRW 24B1ST drive! I have used different brands of dual layer media that were listed as being 8X capable in the past, but never had one actually attain 8X. In fact I always wrote at 6X speed just to reduce verification errors, yet those discs often failed at a 30% to 50% rate. I've only burnt 3 of these discs so far, but each has verified perfectly.
Cons: The only complaint that I have about media from Newegg is that Newegg does not know how to properly pack multiple spindles to protect them during shipping. This order was a replacement for a damaged shipment, and while all three spindles came through undamaged, half of the air pillow wrap was popped. If Newegg learns to put cardboard dividers between spindles like everybody else in the industry does, then they will be the best place to buy media on the web.
Great Media, Horrible Shipping
Pros: These discs typically work extremely well, with both for the optical surface and the printing surface performing beautifully. Newegg had them on sale at a great price and then discounted them further with a limited time coupon, making them the best deal available for these discs.
Cons: Newegg does not know how to pack and ship DVD media in spindles. They put 5 of these spindles, which weigh 5 pounds 12 ounces each, in a large cardboard box with only 7 squares of air pillow wrap! There was so much loose space that the spindles slammed together, breaking the bases on 4 of the spindles badly enough that the little foam discs on the top of the spindle were dislodged. The Newegg customer service people were great, even though it took a long time to get connected, and sent a replacement order quickly. But even after sending detailed pictures of the broken box, the damaged spindles, and the poor packing, I was astonished when the replacement order arrived with 4 of the 5 spindles broken again! All they did was add more air pillow wrap, half of which broke in shipment. Again, the customer service people were great, but until Newegg learns how to pack DVD media, I won't buy from them again regardless of the price.
Overall Review: Don't buy more than one spindle of DVD media from Newegg at a time until they learn to pack the media securely like EVERYBODY else who sells media does.
Nice drive, pitiful service.
Pros: low cost, very fast on single layer DVD creation and verify. Worked well on dual layer DVD for eleven moths before failing.
Cons: Stopped writing dual layer DVD+R discs after eleven months
Overall Review: ASUS warranty is for one year, so luckily my drive broke while still a month within warranty. It took several emails and answering lots of unrelated questions to get ASUS to set up an RMA. I have another DVD writer in my PC that could take a disc that the ASUS drive said was bad and then write it and verify it without any issues, and that is what finally convinced them to do the RMA. If I didn't have the other drive, I feel that ASUS would still be blaming the media. ASUS service received my drive on 3/17/14 in the morning, but didn't even log it into their system until 3/22/14. It is now 3/24/14, and the status is still "in repair." I don't understand why ASUS is wasting time and effort on a product that I can buy from Newegg right now for $17! While I like the drive when it is working, I will probably never buy an ASUS product again because of their poor service response.
Pros: Small, well designed, accesses all FM frequencies, and low cost
Cons: only that it needs to be powered from its' own USB cigarette lighter power source.
Overall Review: I have used a Belkin transmitter that cost more than this unit and only worked on three low end FM frequencies. This is a very nice unit that works very well. Your phone controls the play options and the volume, although your car radio can increase the volume as loud as you like. I keep around 8 GB of my favorite tunes in my phone, and being able to play them on my car stereo is great!
Ye another DOA
Pros: Should be a great card for the price, 4GB is fantastic, other specs are good, works with a 300W power supply
Cons: never made it past the power on self test (POST) causing my HP P7 to beep six times, indicating a problem with the video card. Zotac tech support's advice: send it back to Newegg.
