Pros: The main reason I bought this laptop was so I could do my 3D art in Maya away from home and at school. I did not want a big bulky gaming style laptop, but I needed something with a kick. This laptop is the perfect fit for what I needed.
-The 1080p screen lets you see everything a normal desktop would, so working in Maya, Photoshop, and other related programs are not hindered by screen size.
-The nVidia 550m is a really good mobile card, I have had no problems in Maya or any games like TF2, L4D, Torchlight, Doom 3, and Fallout New Vegas.
-The option to upgrade to 8gb of ram, which I did because Maya eats up a ton of ram.
-The laptop looks great and my favorite thing it is not a fingerprint magnet like so many laptops are these days.
-For what is inside of it you can get 3 plus hours out of the six cell battery.
-USB 3.0 is super fast.
Overall really happy with my purchase.
Cons: My major major complaint is the amount of trial software comes packed on the computer. It took 5 DVD's just to burn the recovery discs. I would highly highly recommend doing a clean windows install when you get the laptop and just download the basic drivers from the Asus website. Once I did that my laptop ran much faster and smoother.
My other small complaint is over nVidia Optimus. It is a cool feature in order to save battery life, but their is no way to tell your computer you want to use the nVidia 550m 100% of the time. I had a huge issue configuring the driver to use my graphics card over the integrated graphics when I used Maya. I just think nVidia should let people that know stuff about computers have complete control over what they want, and do not want to use.
Overall Review: Overall I am happy with the laptop despite some of my cons. The reason I did not take off an egg is because the two issues were fixable on my end with some common computer knowledge.
If you are in the same boat as me and do not want a big bulky laptop, you should really consider this model.
Pros: The ram is DDR2 by default in any machine it will only run at 800mhz. The great thing about this ram is it is designed to handle over clocking up to 1200mhz which is nice because most DDR2 ram will become unstable at those speeds. Moral of the story, DO NOT BUY THIS RAM UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO OVERCLOCK!
Cons: None so far, the ram is extremely stable which makes overclocking a lot easier.
Overall Review: It is a tad expensive compared to regular DDR2 ram but it is a great upgrade if you are looking to squeeze some extra power out of your system.
Pros: Everything, This board is the second best on the market just behind the newly released 790i board. Overclocking is super easy, the instruction booklet is vary detailed, it looks great, can tri SLI, and its vary fast.
LIMITED LIFE TIME WARRENTY! you cant go wrong
Cons: I got it a couple weeks ago and I have no problems so far.
Pros: If your looking for a nice looking case for a low price this isnt a bad choice, but dont expect to much.
Lots of room and expansion bays.
Looks nice and has great lighting even though I got rid of the blue and put in Red.
The screwless 3.5 clips work well, allthough I wish there was a way to opt out of using them.
Cons: Came in the mail with a dent in the top
Feels kind of cheap and plasticy
CABLE MANAGEMENT IS A PAIN, I had to drill 2 holes in the mother board tray and zip tie all the cords and shove them into the 3.5 drive bay slots below my DVD drive.
front power/usb/light cables are confusing.
bad instruction booklet.
Overall Review: For 70 bucks its not a bad case that can show off your shiny parts but I would suggest spending a little more money on case thats easier to work with.
If you do get this case make sure to get zip ties because you will need them.
Pros: It can turn your fans up and down at a great price.
Cons: LEDs in the front are the dumbest things ive ever seen. I took it apart and put red electrical tape over the lights and now it has a nice red glow to match my case lighting.
Overall Review: your are going to have to put something over the lights
