Pros: 0 memtest errors, works very well with my Lenovo y560P. Huge upgrade from the 4GB of DDR3 1066 RAM that comes with the laptop. Load times are much quicker because I don't have to use my slow HDD anymore as virtual RAM for just about everything. Multi-tasking is much smoother and quicker now (50+ firefox tabs + gaming and a bunch of background apps with RAM to spare).
Cons: Package supposedly arrived Monday afternoon so I filed a missing package report Thursday morning since tracking info was no longer available on the website. Arrived Thursday afternoon... Haven't had that happen to me in 10 years of online shopping.
Overall Review: Newegg was very polite, quick, and effective at filing and cancelling the missing package report.
Crispy hot
Pros: -Very overclock friendly, can easily max out memory @ 1450 and go up to 1.1GHz on core with +20% power in catalyst control center -Silent at low RPMs (up to 50% fan speed) -Double D version which means you will get lifetime warranty if you register the card
Cons: Runs extremely hot and very loud at full load. It's winter and I have heat turned off in my room, but the card still runs at 85*C even with the fan at 100%. And that's with the core UNDERCLOCKED to 900MHz.
Overall Review: If this card had decent cooling it would be the best card out there. However, even though it is OC friendly, it's kind of pointless to OC it to the limits with stock cooling since it runs way too hot. My MSI 7870 runs 20-30*C cooler (around 60*C) at full load in the other system with a much higher ambient temperature and also much higher (core) clock speeds (1050/1250 stock).
Not worth the headache
Pros: Price and specs (on paper), especially since I got another $100 off for black Friday as well as an Asus Game Pad gift. It seemed too good to be true, and unfortunately that is exactly how it turned out.
Cons: -At first I had video card issues after computer waking up from sleep, I managed to fix that by updating the BIOS. -Several days later, my computer became highly unstable. Random reboots, BSOD loops, could not run repair, could not run clean install. -Build quality is super cheap, and the laptop camera and speakers are horrid, the laptop keyboard finish is already coming off and it looks like it has been used for 2+ years, not 2 weeks. I have not experienced a similar keyboard issue with any other laptop or keyboard in the past 20 years.
Overall Review: I called Asus support and they asked me to ship the product to them for troubleshooting. Unfortunately, I am travelling overseas with no scheduled return date, therefore this is not a viable option for me. Will have to try to troubleshoot and fix it on my own even though it's a brand new laptop. Will most likely never buy Asus again, especially since I know several people who have had extremely back luck with some of their budget laptops. I regret not dishing out a little more and getting an MSI gaming laptop since their support is way better, not to mention their quality is still miles ahead of Asus.
steer clear
Pros: Price at the time & after MIR.
Cons: -No certification, not even 80+ -Weighs about half of what a quality PSU should weigh -Died after less than 3 months of use! It's not even worth RMAing to TT and waiting for replacement since I have to pay for shipping. Either pay $20 for shipping or $30 for a new PSU... hmmm.... which would you rather pick?
Overall Review: Do yourself a favor and invest a few extra pennies in a higher quality PSU.
Eggcellent card!
Pros: -Voltage unlocked -Overclocks like a monster (I am mining on it 24/7 with 1120/1350 @ 1.175v + 20% powertune @100% fan speed and around 80*C temps. -Fan is pretty tolerable at 100%. XFX makes pretty silent fans compared to other manufacturers. -Could probably go even higher but I wouldn't feel comfortable getting my temps in the 90s.
Cons: -Absolutely none for this price range
Overall Review: -Bought this card for mining and as a backup for gaming. During masterpass and rebate promotion. What a steal!!! -Sadly, it gets way better hashrates AND runs cooler than my XFX 7870 Double D which is locked at stock voltage and UNDERCLOCKED (since overclocking gives me lower hashrates) and I have tried absolutely everything on my 7870.
Nice deal
Pros: -Powerhouse of a card for unbeatable value at the moment -Blows hot air directly outside of the case -Mining on it with 650kH/s with temps in the lower 80s.
Cons: Only comes with card and one 6 pin to 8 pin power adapter. This card is extremely long, so make sure it can fit in your case. It did not fit in my Raidmax mid tower, but luckily I ordered an Antec GX500 which arrived a few days prior. The Antec case has room to spare whereas the raidmax didn't even come close. There are moments when the card starts to artifact after some use, the hashrate drops or is very inconsistent, and I see artifacts on my desktop... A restart solves the problem, but it worries me.
Overall Review: There are lemons out there, just like there are with any other product, particularly refurbs. It would be wise to invest in a refurb service plan. Paired up with an OCed 4770k and a 7870, it keeps my bedroom and bathroom warm (75-80*F) in extremely cold temps (10-30*F outdoor).
